We will discuss two very short stories: Ursula Le Guin's ["The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas"](https://files.libcom.org/files/ursula-k-le-guin-the-ones-who-walk-away-from-omelas.pdf) and Franz Kafka's ["Before the Law"](https://www.kafka-online.info/before-the-law.html) which together make up about 7 pages of reading. The first is often interpreted as an exploration of utilitarianism, which we can use to explore ideas of morality together as we examine Le Guin's memorable description of an apparently perfect society with one major flaw. The second is Kafka's short and strange parable about a man who wants access to the law; it is a work which explores ideas of power and authority. We are a group of runners who meet most weeks for a run around the beautiful Vltava River's edge. You can bring your running shoes straight from the office/home office if you don't have time to stop at home. There will be a place to put your bags in the Cafe. We will run about 9 km along the river and have a drink afterwards. Paces vary! We will meet in the square near Kavarna Liberal (Hermanova 6), near the Vltavska metro/tram stop at 6:30 on Wednesday.
