The Longform toolbox by Rutger Pull (sold out)
#### Level: Advanced or almost advanced
*Longform Toolbox 1*
Longform improv is where everything you’ve learned starts to breathe.
Instead of short scenes or structured games, we begin to explore what happens when scenes are allowed to grow, connect, and evolve. One idea can spark a whole world. A single moment can ripple through multiple scenes. And suddenly, you’re not just improvising—you’re building something together.
In **Longform Toolbox 1**, we take the tools you may already know and start applying them with more intention, clarity, and awareness. Instead of focusing on isolated scenes, we explore how scenes can breathe, connect, and evolve over time.
You will work with tools like editing techniques, story in 3 acts, the role of the narrator or director, strong starts, characters with aspirations, finding the game, themes and callbacks, and exploring characters and their relationships.
But more than just learning the tools, this course is about understanding *when* and *why* to use them.
\- How do you make a strong start that gives direction without locking anything in?
\- When is the right moment to edit—and when is it better to stay?
\- How do you recognize the game of a scene and build on it together?
\- And how can themes and callbacks emerge naturally\, instead of being forced?
We’ll explore these questions through play, repetition, and reflection. You’ll learn to trust your instincts while also developing a sharper eye for structure, pacing, and group dynamics.
Longform asks for a different kind of awareness. Not just of your own character, but of the whole piece that is unfolding. What is the story that wants to be told? What patterns are appearing? And how can you support them—on stage or from the sidelines?
#### Who this course is for
This course is intended for almost advanced improvisers who want to see if longform is something for them, or who want to gain more insights in narrative choices. You should have done at least four improv courses or similar.

#### **About the teacher**

His feedback style is positive, clear, and precise, helping players grow while staying playful and confident.

**George vertelt hoe AI Cyberaanvallen verandert**
**Agenda**
14:45 - 15:00 - Inloop
15:00 - 16:00 - Neurale netwerken
16:15 - 17:15 - AI risico’s en kansen
17:15 - 18:00 - Eten
18:00 - 18:45 - Fraude fabriek
We zien je graag op de Techday!
[Arnhem] English subs: The President’s Cake
\# This meetup is around a third\-party organizer\, Focus Filmtheater\. You can either purchase your ticket online or right before the session\. **Seats are numbered**. #
**Title**: The President’s Cake
**Language**: Arabic
**Subtitles**: English
**Length**: 106 min
**Director**: Hasan Hadi
**More info**: https://www.focusarnhem.nl/agenda/english-subs-the-presidents-cake/
**Ticket link**: https://www.focusarnhem.nl/tickets/144299/
**Synopsis:**
In poverty-stricken 1990s Iraq, young Lamia is selected to prepare a cake for the President’s birthday. Because basic ingredients are hard to find, Lamia goes on a journey in search of eggs, flour and sugar. It becomes a tender, tragicomic odyssey, offering a child-eye’s view of life under authoritarianism.
Hasan Hadi’s affecting debut feature follows 9-year-old Lamia. She is tasked with bringing a cake to school for the President’s mandatory birthday celebration. Against a backdrop of crippling poverty and food shortages, she journeys from her marshland home to a nearby city in search of ingredients. Coming along with her are her grandmother Bibi, her best friend Saeed and her beloved pet rooster Hindi.
Shot on location in Iraq with nonprofessional actors, this tender, tragicomic odyssey offers a poignant child’s-eye view of life under authoritarian rule. The film was inspired by Hasan Hadi’s childhood memories of 1990s Iraq under Saddam Hussein, and was awarded the Caméra d’Or at Cannes for best first feature.
**How it works**:
I will be at Focus around 18:30, where we can meet before the movie starts. You can message me to find us. Screening starts at 19:00. After the movie, we can have a drink together.
Hope to see you soon!

Shut Up & Write! Kingsdale Shopping Center
Greetings writers! Come down and join your fellow wordsmiths for one hour of uninterrupted writing time in the upper level of the Market District Supermarket in Upper Arlington.
The main entrance of the shopping center opens onto stairs/elevator leading up to the 2nd floor cafe section where we will have a table displaying a sign with the Shut Up & Write logo.
Writing is largely a solitary craft. Practicing with others in a community setting may be the thing you need to fire your own routine.
We’ll meet on Wednesday evenings, starting the clock at 6:30, following a brief period of introductions. This is solid writing time and all inclusive. Any project is acceptable, be it fiction, non -fiction, work or homework assignment. All is welcome and will remain private to you.
The market boasts a Starbucks, a full service bar and various affordable food options. Parking is plentiful, free Wifi is provided as well as outlets for charging your devices, though they are somewhat limited, so plan accordingly.
Show up as early as you like, or stay late. This group tends to socialize some, both before and after the alloted time, but this is not mandatory to you. Feel free to come and go as you please and late arrivals are welcome.
The cafe may be noisy on occasion so headphones/ earbuds are reccommended as you see fit.
Please try to RSVP if possible so that we may grab enough seats for all—the venue can be busy at times.
Feel free to message me privately wth any questions and/ or concerns you may have.
Happy writing!

Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for May is "Ink"
Speak Easy: true stories, told live.
The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast.
Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect.
The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
