š **Time:** 18:00

**āAbstract:** Nearly every cancer diagnosis still begins with a pathologist examining a stained tissue slide under a microscope. Digital pathology turns those slides into gigapixel images ā and with them, a uniquely demanding frontier for machine learning. But getting from raw pixels to clinically meaningful, quantitative insight about a tumor and its microenvironment is far from trivial.
āIn this workshop, Aignostics ā a computational pathology company and CharitĆ© spin-off ā walks you along the arc from core ML research to real-world application. We start with an overview of digital pathology and what makes it challenging for ML (gigapixel images, scarce labels, scanner and staining variability). We then look at how pathology foundation models are built and what separates a good one from a fragile one ā not just accuracy, but robustness to non-biological artifacts ā with a short hands-on segment. Finally, we put these models to work: with Atlas H&E-TME we profile the tumor microenvironment from routine H&E slides, and you'll get hands-on with OpenTME ā an open dataset of TME profiles across five cancer types from TCGA ā and TME Studio to run your own analyses.

šø Studio B/W Portrait Photography in Weissense
Join us for our second studio event this year, first in this new studio in [Weissensee](https://studioweissensee.berlin/), for a minimalistic session with 3 models.
**Main theme:**
This all-black-and-white studio session is a deep dive into the mastery of contrast and light. Instead of just taking striking photos, you will deconstruct and replicate the artistic decisions of photographyās greatest masters. You will explore how deep shadows, bright highlights, and texture shape emotion and direct the viewerās eye.
The session is divided into three distinct technical blocks based on iconic reference styles:
1. **Terry Richardson & Platon:** Minimalist sets, flat direct flash, and raw, high-contrast emotional energy.
2. **Peter Lindbergh:** Cinematic, soft yet directional window light, unretouched skin texture, and honest human emotion.
3. **Hedi Slimane:** Aggressive digital black-and-white, sharp side-lighting, and cold rock-and-roll decadence.
The goal is to understand how light reveals, conceals, separates, and connects. By consciously borrowing these techniques, you will learn to use contrast as a powerful visual and emotional tool with your own subjects.
**š” Formula**
This rotation-based format is built to maximize your shooting time and creative output. Youāll work across three setups, lighting styles, and models, all in a single session.
* **1-on-1 Shooting:** Dedicated time with each model.
* **Ready-to-Shoot:** Professionally lit, styled environments for varied content.
* **Inspiring Atmosphere:** A focused chance to experiment, connect, and create alongside like-minded photographers.
**š„ Who & What to Expect**
* **Participants:** Up to 12 photographers, divided into 3 rotating groups.
* **Skill Level:** Intermediate and above.
* **The Models:** 3 carefully selected models.

* **Observation towers:** Four historic observation towers, each with a unique architecture, line our way. They can be climbed and offer spectacular views across the Oder valley all the way to Poland.
* **Teufelssee:** The dark forest lake has a magical atmosphere and is the perfect place for a picnic. To relax from climbing, jump in the lake or take a cold foot bath in the nearby stream. From the lake, a delightful loop leads to the edge of the forest and back through lofty heights.

June Book Club Meetup
Welcome, readers!
Our June read is ***Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible*** ***Voyage***
**by Alfred Lansing.**
A work of nonfiction, and one of the most astonishing survival stories in history, we follow Sir Ernest Shackleton and his crew after their ship is crushed by Antarctic ice. Stranded in one of the harshest environments on Earth, the men endure months of isolation, freezing temperatures, and near starvationāyet refuse to give up hope. Lansing brings their ordeal to life through vivid detail and firsthand accounts, capturing both the brutality of nature and the resilience of the human spirit. At its core, the story is a powerful testament to leadership, perseverance, and the unbreakable will to survive against impossible odds.
Looking forward to discussing with everyone!
