Julia's Salon - Social Butterfly Club đŚ
In the spirit of a 19th-century salon, this gathering will be a space for lively conversations, fascinating encounters, and the exchange of ideas over drinks. Whether youâre new in town or a local looking to expand your social circle, this is the perfect opportunity to connect with like-minded explorers of Berlinâs nightlife.
Each week, we shine a spotlight on a **special guest** from our community â someone who brings along a topic theyâre passionate about or deeply engaged with.
Itâs not a presentation or a performance, but rather a gentle invitation into conversation: a starting point for curiosity, questions, and unexpected connections. The topic can naturally weave its way into the evening, without needing to take over.
If youâd like to be our next special guest, feel free to reach out via the contact form: [https://socialbutterfly.berlin/contact/](https://socialbutterfly.berlin/contact/)
This time, weâre excited to introduce **Erik**, whoâs been thinking about how we meet new people in a digital world.
Erik has been developing his own app, inspired by the idea of making spontaneous, local gatherings more visible â and connecting with whatâs happening around us in the moment.
How do you usually meet new people â and what makes you stay in touch?
Orga
The location is cash only. It is non-smoking (with a separate room for smoking).
Weâll be sitting on the couches in the first room.

Invitation to Vernissage | May 16
Dear art lovers,
Iâm happy to invite you to the Vernissage of a group exhibition Iâm taking part in this Saturday, 16 May, at Kunstraum Heartspace in Berlin.
Back in October, I started giving my Portrait Drawing Workshops at Kunstraum Heartspace, and over these months it has truly become a meaningful place of growth and exchange for me.
The exhibition celebrates the **first anniversary of the space** and brings together artists from different disciplines. It revolves around the theme of diffraction and connection, exploring how obstacles can generate unexpected connections.
Iâll be showing my latest portrait work, where I further develop the interaction between highly detailed realistic pencil drawing and free, colourful forms.
Iâd be happy to share this further development of my work with you, have a drink together, and exchange a few thoughts and impressions.
**When**: Saturday, May 16th, 2026
**Time**: 4:00 - 10 PM
**Location**: Kunstraum Heartspace
Danziger Str. 172 - 10407 Berlin
**Entrance**: free
I'm looking forward to welcoming you there!

Afternoon Walk+Coffee in Berlin: Sonnenallee/Treptower/KreuzbergđŁđśđśââď¸âď¸đĽâđŞ
1 EURO DONATION FEE PER PERSON IS REQUIRED (on site, in cash), to pay back the Meetup subscription fees and support my Events.
READ THE DESCRIPTION WITH THE INFO (IMPORTANT).
We take a walk in Berlin to meet new people or people we already know đ
It's a way to spend a few hours together on a public holiday afternoon.
**How it works?**
The concept is very simple:
* We meet at Sonnenallee Station at 14,15 o'clock (we use the Whatsapp Chat to find each other: I will post there my exact location outside the station)
* I wait for people for 10 minutes, till 14,25, then we start to walk direction Treptower Park, crossing the park đłđłđł and going along the Spree river, to then go further
* We go on along the Landwehrkanal, exploring Kreuzberg đ
* The total length of the walk is about 8kms
* We land finally here to take coffee, a drink, or some food, and spend more time together ([https://maps.app.goo.gl/RsUCxwDKK6yVtiF48](https://maps.app.goo.gl/RsUCxwDKK6yVtiF48))
I consider that the event will last in overall around 4 hours (2 hours of walk đśđśââď¸ and 2 hours at the Cafe/Restaurant), but people are free to stay together longer, if they want đ
What I provide is leading the walk and the people at the Cafe, but I do not force anyone to stay shorter or longer.
I do not provide a "personal support" for people who arrive after 14,25 (do not write to me expecting "private support").
You are responsible to check for the weather and decide if come or not.
Thanks for understanding.
If you have to contact me, make it via Whatsapp, not here on Meetup.

Vernissage & 1st Anniversary Party: Diffraction & Connection
**One year of Kunstraum Heartspace:** One year of heart connections through art.
Kunstraum Heartspace is a space for connection, a space where each person's creativity can interfere with the creativity of others, and a space that invites everybody to participate in this connection.
For our anniversary exhibition, artists of different disciplines have been invited to explore the theme of diffraction and connection.
The theme takes inspiration from the physical phenomenon of interference:
When waves hit an obstacle, they will bend around the obstacle.
This applies to any type of waves - water waves, sound waves, light waves. Once waves have hit the obstacle, they will connect and interfere behind the obstacle â constructively, or destructively.
Connections do not always happen seemlessly.
Thinking through the lense of diffraction, obstacles are a necessary component for interference and (re-)connection.
Connections can teach us about the different and diffracted parts of ourselves that are yet disconnected.
And: Diffraction is an absolutely necessary process in order for us to perceive the manifold colours of life â metaphorically speaking, and literally, physically speaking.
A year has passed and the once newborn Kunstraum Heartspace is now entering adult life. This transition, too, does not come without obstacles â but this year has proven to be a powerful testimony of an ever-growing art community with strong and radiant hearts, making Kunstraum Heartspace a beautiful space for real connections.
We are looking forward to welcoming you there!
Saturday Afternoon Creative Coffee, Boardgames, and Talk
**Relax. Connect. Create. â**
After a full week of work, meetings, study sessions and life in fast-forward, itâs time to slow down. Join us this Saturday afternoon in Berlin for a relaxed coffee hang-out where this week's agenda is good company & warm drinks. You're also invited to bring some boardgames, drawing/coloring materials (I will bring an adult coloring book)
**Whatâs the plan?**
Weâll meet in a cosy spot, draw, chat about everything and nothing, swap stories and simply enjoy the moment. No pressure. No formalities. Just a bunch of friendly people sharing a Saturday coffee.
**Whoâs welcome?**
Everyone! Whether youâre a Berliner born and raised, newly arrived in the city, from Germany or abroad, if you like meeting open-minded folks and spending some relaxed timeâcome join us.
**When & how?**
Saturday afternoon. Detailed time and place in our Telegram group.
âĄď¸ Join us on Telegram: [https://t.me/berlinsaturdaycoffee](https://t.me/berlinsaturdaycoffee)
Hop in, say hello, and weâll share the final details.
**Why join?**
*Because you deserve a break.
- Because you enjoy being creative.
*Because you enjoy boardgames
- Because meeting new people sparks fresh energy.
*Because coffee tastes even better when shared.
- Because Saturday afternoons were made for this.
Respect and Safety:
There is always at least one organizer present at every meetup. If you ever feel unsafe or bothered by someoneâs behavior, you can reach out to an organizer privately. Your identity will remain confidential, your concern will be taken seriously, and no inappropriate behavior is tolerated â anyone making others feel uncomfortable will be removed from the group immediately.
We hope to see you there. Bring yourself, your smile, drawing materials, your storiesâor just your comfy self.
Letâs make Saturday a little more laid-back, a little more social and a lot more nice.
See you soon!

Let's grab some coffee/food and share a morning chat! The East Market has an ample parking lot and outdoor and indoor seating.
Grab a cup of coffee from Winston's Coffee & Waffles or on your way to East Market and meet us on the second floor - table behind or east of the elevator.
Per what this group is about:
"Everyone is welcome! International transplants to Columbus who want to improve language skills, Columbus residents who enjoy talking to people from other countries, and those who would like to discuss international travel and culture, and who enjoy getting together for good conversations."
LLM Showdown: ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini vs Local Models
Join us for a practical, beginner-friendly guide to choosing the right large language model. Weâll compare major models like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Llama, talk about when to use hosted APIs versus local models, and break down the tradeoffs around cost, speed, quality, privacy, context windows, coding ability, and reliability.
Youâll leave with a clearer mental model for picking an LLM based on your actual use case instead of hype, benchmarks, or brand names. No deep AI background required.
LOGISTICS AND PARKING:
The talk starts at 7:00 PM. The first half hour is reserved for everyone to get set up and mingle. Free pizza and drinks!
The cheapest parking option is to find street parking, which will only cost you a few bucks. Otherwise, park in the nearby veteran's museum lot for $8. It's highly recommended you avoid the nearby $15 garage parking.
Trails & Ales! Blendon Woods Metro Park / Forbidden Root Restaurant & Brewery
**History**
The history of [Blendon Woods Metro Park](https://www.metroparks.net/parks-and-trails/blendon-woods/) began long before its 1951 opening, rooted in a landscape of rugged ridges and deep ravines that made the land unsuitable for traditional farming. In 1945, a report proposing a metropolitan park system for Franklin County specifically highlighted these cliffs of Bedford Shale as some of the "wildest land in the vicinity". Following this recommendation, the recently formed park district purchased the first 229 acres in early 1949. Because the terrain was so uneven, developers had to cut a mile-and-a-half-long roadway through dense woods just to bring in heavy equipment. This initial preservation effort ensured that the mature second-growth hardwood forests remained largely untouched by the urban expansion spreading toward Westerville.
Opening day arrived on Labor Day, September 3, 1951, marking Blendon Woods as the second park in the Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks system. The final push to open was a frantic race; the State Highway Department only finished the primary gravel access road four days before the gates opened. Early staff members, consisting of just four full-time employees, had to hand-dig pit toilets and learn construction skills on the fly to build the first picnic shelters. Despite the dusty conditions and limited facilities, the park was an immediate success, drawing massive crowds from across Central Ohio. By the end of the 1950s, annual visitation had already climbed to over 190,000 people.
As the surrounding suburbs grew in the 1960s, the park faced severe overcrowding that threatened its natural habitats. In response, Franklin County voters passed the first Metro Parks levy in 1960, providing the funds necessary for a decade of steady expansion. During this era, the park nearly doubled in size, growing from 264 acres to over 570 acres by 1968. Planners also addressed a critical water shortage by collaborating with the U.S. Soil and Conservation Service to build a lake in 1964. This body of water originally served as a temporary reservoir before its role shifted toward conservation and wildlife support.
The 1970s marked a transition toward the specialized wildlife and educational focus for which the park is known today. In 1971, the Walden Waterfowl Refuge was established around the 11-acre Thoreau Lake, creating a sanctuary that remains restricted to provide a quiet habitat for migratory birds. A formal nature center was also developed during this period, expanding on the guided Sunday walks that had been a park staple since the early 1950s. The parkâs famous "Monarch Mansion" also became a prominent fixture, starting a long tradition of raising and releasing thousands of monarch butterflies each September. These initiatives cemented the parkâs reputation as a premier destination for birders and nature enthusiasts.
In more recent decades, Blendon Woods has continued to modernize while maintaining its wilderness character. The 10-acre Natural Play Area was added in 2017, encouraging kids to explore the ravines and woods off-trail. This was followed by the opening of a $1.5 million inclusive playground in April 2025, designed to accommodate children of all physical abilities. The nature center also underwent major renovations to include immersive, three-dimensional exhibits and a new butterfly house. Today, the park encompasses 653 acres, preserving a unique geologic and biological corridor amidst the bustling Westerville and Northeast Columbus area.
**Map of the Park**
Here is a map of [Blendon Woods](https://www.metroparks.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/BLN_map_Inclusive-Playground-and-Butterfly-Trail_May-2025_1980px.png).
**Summary**
For this event, we will hike the Lake View, Hickory Ridge, Ripple Rock, Overlook, Brookside, and Sugarbush Trails. This sounds like a lot, but it will really be only a little over five miles. Blendon Woods has a few hills here and there, but it's not one of the more strenuous metro parks.
**Where We'll Meet**
We'll meet just in front of the Nature Center. This is about a mile into the park from the main entrance. You have to go past the Ranger Station and the Shadblow Reservable Area to get to it, so don't stop too early at the Ranger Station and get it confused with the Nature Center.
**After the Hike**
Afterward, we will head over to [Forbidden Root Restaurant & Brewery](https://forbiddenroot.com/restaurants/columbus-ohio/) at Easton for [drinks](https://forbiddenroot.com/restaurants/columbus-ohio/#dinner-menu) and [food](https://forbiddenroot.com/wp-content/uploads/Cbus-Food.pdf). We should be there by 5 if you can't make the hike and just want to join us for drinks.
The brewery's actual address is [4080 Worth Ave, Columbus, OH 43219](https://www.google.com/maps/place/4080+Worth+Ave,+Columbus,+OH+43219/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x88388a86d10b6619:0x4d42b470a5cf11d3?sa=X&ved=1t:242&ictx=111); however, I recommend pointing your GPS to the [Worth Garage](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Worth+Garage/@40.0542293,-82.9137962,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x88388b4df6082825:0x17582f0eccd9dda1!8m2!3d40.0542293!4d-82.9137962!16s%2Fg%2F11rzfvvv8b?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDQxNS4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D) across the street. Parking in this garage is free as long as you're not on the first floor, and it is literally right next to the brewery.

**Code of Conduct**: Though mostly understood, itâs still worth mentioning. We donât have rules per se, but we highly discourage the following topics of discussion because they are likely to incite anti-social responses - Sex, Politics, Religion. Please donât mistake this as an attempt to limit your free speech rights but rather a guide to a place and time for appropriate discussions.
Again, We look forward to meeting new members and reuniting with old friends.

IMPORTANT INFO: I strongly suggest not reading anything about it online before seeing it. It's best viewed with no previous knowledge. This documentary contains crude terminology and deals with cyberbullying, which may be a trigger for some folks.
Please be ready to discuss the movie by 7PM. Thanks.
Unfortunately, it is only available on Netflix. If you would like to attend but do not have Netflix, say so and maybe we can figure something out.
