Rust Berlin on location đłď¸âđ - Edition 011
**Rust Berlin on location đłď¸âđ** is a new, informal in-person Rust meetup group in Berlin.
We are a interactive meetup format interested in mob coding, deep diving and problem solving together.
We build toy projects, share experiences, discuss technology and learn new cool stuff.
And you are welcome to join!
No matter if you are writing Rust production code every day, if you already contribute to Open Source projects or want to start doing so, if you use Rust in hobby projects or if you are just curious what the hype and buzz is all about, you are very welcome!
To coordinate and plan activities, please join our **[Rust Berlin on location đłď¸âđ](https://signal.group/#CjQKIApfEgb36v82nhIb7m6zLCQjEtSEZubR7UvywTcWZXxdEhBWxhMWNCKekvtCYX7iDRRm)**[ Signal group](https://signal.group/#CjQKIApfEgb36v82nhIb7m6zLCQjEtSEZubR7UvywTcWZXxdEhBWxhMWNCKekvtCYX7iDRRm)!
**Planned programme**
Being an informal meetup, we are open to anything between just meet and talk, explore nerd snipes and rabbit holes, mob code together, plan and build fun projects, tinker with electronics, and presentations with Q&A.
This time, Flix will walk us through error handling approaches in Rust â from typed error enums to crates like anyhow and thiserror â and
present his own take: neuer-error, a single-type error library that captures source locations instead of backtraces and provides typed, discoverable
error context without generics soup. Then Raf will show off a fun project that renders canvas primitives with vector and matrix geometry, built from
scratch with zero dependencies.
If someone brings other cool stuff, questions or problems, then let us dedicate the second half of the meetup time to that!
Anyone is invited to bring their projects and questions, show something, ask something, or explore a topic together. The best conversations and deepest rabbit holes can emerge out of seemingly nowhere.
**Projected upcoming meetups**
We schedule regular meetups on Thursday evening every four weeks, using the slot between the Berlin Rust Hack and Learn online meetup (every two weeks), and the Rust Nuremberg online meetup (every four weeks).
19 February 2026 is our eleventh meeting. Our next projected meetings are going to occur on the following dates:
* 19 Feb 2026
* 19 Mar 2026
* 16 Apr 2026
* 14 May 2026 (tentative, public holiday)
* 11 Jun 2026
* 9 Jul 2026
* 6 Aug 2026
**Location**
Our meetup location is the new shared office community space of Ferrous Systems, Slint and KDAB in Berlin Mitte, for up to 25 people.
We are expecting to use this space as our default location for the time being, with the IN-Berlin e.V. community space in Moabit as backup.
Regardless, as our group might eventually outgrow the locations' size limit, we are low-key looking for bigger locations. If you know a fitting location, then please let us know in our Signal group! Another workable way might be to split the meetup into smaller, interest-specific sub-groups instead.
As the no-show rate on Meetup.com is rather high, consider showing up even if you are on the waiting list. We can't promise that there is any space left, but usually there is. So give it a shot!
**Accessibility**
The location has an elevator and a wheelchair accessible bathroom. Please note that the bathroom is two floors down from the meetup space.
On our quest for a bigger location, we are going to pay special attention to accessibility.
**Community**
We aim to create a safe place for everyone and adhere to the [Berlin Code of Conduct](https://berlincodeofconduct.org/).
Inclusivity is very important to us. If you are curious about Rust, but unsure if you are welcome to join: Yes, yes you are. Please come to the meetup! If you have special needs, please get in contact, we will try to accommodate you as best we can.
We are part of [https://berline.rs/](https://berline.rs/) and like to hang out in the Berlin Rust Hack and Learn online meetup's [Matrix channel](https://matrix.to/#/!xycQxSjSAvEezkyztA:chat.berline.rs). You are very welcome to join!
Secrets No More: Spring K8s Mastery + Kotlin Glow
Join us for the next Spring User Group Berlin meetup! This time, we are bridging the gap between rock-solid operations and developer joy.
**Talk 1: Secure and Seamless: Injecting Kubernetes Secrets into Spring Applications**
*Speaker: Dmitriy Goi, Deutsche Bank*
Look, weâve all done it. You need a database password, so you throw it into an environment variable and call it a day. It works, itâs fast, and your app starts up. But then the security audit hits, or your credentials rotate and suddenly your logs are full of connection errors because your Spring context is stuck in the past.
At Deutsche Bank, "good enough" usually isn't. Iâve spent the last few years moving Spring apps into Kubernetes and realizing that most tutorials lie to you. They show you the easy way, not the way that survives in production.
Iâm going to show you why environment variables are a security trap and how mounting secrets as files actually works (and where it breaks). Weâll get into the mess of secret rotation, why you probably need a CSI driver or an External Secret operator, and how to make Spring Boot actually pick up those changes without a manual restart.
**About the speaker:**
A passionate software engineer at Deutsche Bank, Dmitriy brings 8 years of development experience to his focus on modernizing application development. He specializes in Spring Boot and Kubernetes and is currently helping lead the charge on migrating key applications to a hybrid cloud environment, emphasizing secure and efficient engineering practices.

**Talk 2: Adopting Kotlin for Spring 7: Cleaner Code, Fewer Bugs, Some Tradeoffs**
*Speaker: Daniil Tsarev, JetBrains*
Kotlin is becoming a first-class citizen in the Spring ecosystem, especially with the latest features in Spring 7. In this talk, we'll explore how easy it is to adopt Kotlin in existing Spring projects, what tangible benefits it brings to everyday development, and where some edges still are. Expect practical examples, real-world tradeoffs, and an honest look at whether Kotlin is the right choice for your Spring stack.
**About the speaker:**
Daniil Tsarev is a Software Developer at JetBrains with over 10 years of experience working with the Spring ecosystem.
Previously was developing a Spring-based full-stack framework for enterprise solutions.
Now passionate about developer productivity, heâs dedicated to creating tools and solutions that make developersâ lives easier.

Meet Your Creative Monsters
Creative Block Lab . Small artist cohort in Berlin (limited spots)
Hi everyone,
Iâm a filmmaker and multidisciplinary artist currently based in Berlin, and Iâm starting a small in-person cohort for artists who feel stuck, blocked, or disconnected from their work.
Over the past years, while making my last film, I went through a long and difficult creative block. In that process, I began researching the emotional and psychological patterns that stop artists from creating. I call them creative monsters, forces like perfectionism, comparison, fear, shame, or paralysis.
Creative Block Lab is a small, intimate space where we explore those patterns together and slowly reconnect with the impulse to make honest, authentic art.
This is not a technical workshop and not a productivity bootcamp.
Itâs a reflective, human-centered space for artists of any medium.
Format
This is a 3-session cohort (same group each time), designed to build trust and continuity.
Each session (1.5â2 hours) includes:
⢠Short introductions and check-in
⢠A guided reflection on one or two creative âmonstersâ
⢠Practical tools or small mindset shifts
⢠A 30-minute creation exercise
(you can bring something youâre already working on, or just experiment with simple materials provided)
⢠Group sharing and integration
The intention is to:
⢠reconnect with your artistic voice
⢠reduce the pressure to be perfect
⢠create in a supportive, non-judgmental space
⢠leave with practical tools you can use in your daily practice
Who itâs for
Artists of any discipline:
⢠visual arts
⢠writing
⢠music
⢠performance
⢠film
⢠or any experimental/undefined practice
No experience level required.
What matters most is honesty and willingness to explore.
Important note
Because the group is intentionally small (around 10 people), thereâs a short application form.
This isnât about selection based on skill or prestige, itâs just to keep the group size intimate and make sure the space feels right for everyone.
There are only a few spots left for this first cohort.
If it resonates with you, you can apply here:

Blood on the Clocktower at BRLO Brwhaus!! (beginner/intermediate)
*Trialing a new location now that Brewdog has closed, please bear with us while we get back on our feet :)*
Hi folks, this is the special meetup group for the weekly Sunday Blood on the Clocktower games in Berlin, currently at BRLO Brwhaus near Potsdamer Platz. We run beginner-friendly and intermediate-level games throughout the afternoon and evening. **Friendly newcomers of all skill levels are welcome, no experience required!**
Our group aims to provide a fun and welcoming space to experience this thrilling game of social deception. **We focus on promoting a positive and fun group atmosphere, where players donât take themselves or the game too seriously, whether theyâre heroically winning or spectacularly losing.** Our players follow the code of conduct for the Berlin Board Gamers group and are expected to treat each other with respect and consideration â âkilling with grace, and dying with dignityâ.
We are usually able to offer two simultaneous games on Sundays. If you are marked as "attending" in Meetup and are in your seat at 15:00, your place is guaranteed for as long as you want to stay. All other seats are first come, first served. We always run at least one beginner-friendly game of the basic version of Clocktower ("Trouble Brewing") throughout the afternoon and evening. We also usually have enough players for a second intermediate-level game. If you are already very familiar with Clocktower, consider also joining our Tuesday meetup for advanced players, when we play with complex custom scripts and characters.
Blood on the Clocktower is a deep, mechanical game of murder and mystery, lies and logic, deduction and deception⌠think Werewolf on steroids. Each player receives a unique secret role and plays either for the good team â the uninformed majority, gathering info and working with others to solve the puzzle â or the evil team, the informed minority, scheming to eliminate good players and protect their demon from execution. In our beginner games no prior experience is expected and we will gladly explain the game rules to any newcomers.
We play in English so players should be able to understand and express themselves in English: an exception is possible for one pair of players willing to play together (as a âRevolutionaryâ pair) where one player can interpret into and out of English. Please let us know in advance if this is the case.

How to Get Over Losses and Betrayls & Build Lasting Relationships
Join us for this free, in person meeting on the subject of betrayals, losses and how to get over them so you can build lasting relationships.
Do you want more motivation and confidence to build lasting relationships?
Are you burdened by a stressful relationship?
Unhealthy relationships can trigger feelings of anger, despair or self-doubt. They can create dwindling spirals of fights and seeking to make-up, or trying to âpin the blameâ on someone or something. If you donât find the RIGHT reasons, or select the correct sources of the problem, the problem can just get worse and worse.
Whether in love or personal ties, with friends or at work, our life really IS affected by the quality of our relationships. Good ones can promote pleasure and survival, while less optimum ones can lead to annoyance, anger, self-doubt, stress, or even affect our health and ability to survive well.
Whether you are suffering from a divorce, or a painful break-up, donât know who to trust (or who to CHOOSE) as a partner, friend, boss or employee - the anxiety of relationship troubles can really make a mess of things. Maybe youâve suffered a betrayal, or are dealing with hostility or criticalness or invalidation. Dwindling relationships can involve destructive behavior, where we hurt those we love, or start succumbing to self-destructive thoughts, attitudes or behaviors that spiral out of control and affect much more than our immediate relationship.
Past losses in love or life can affect how we act or react to new people and situations and hold us back from even starting to create new, possibly great relationships! How can one get back onto a saner course of action?
Come to our Meetup, where we can introduce you to some of the knowledge, tools and techniques of the breakthroughs in the field of the mind that we can apply to this ever important area of life: human relationships!
Break free from self imposed limitations
Here we will discuss:
⢠How to âeraseâ the trauma of past hurts and betrayals so that one isnât always repeating past mistakes.
⢠Why and how do the negative emotions of others affect you?
⢠Why is my partner withdrawing and what can I do about it?
⢠Why do we sometimes feel compelled to hurt the ones we love?
⢠Fights & arguments - what's really behind them?
⢠What underlies âcorrosive criticismâ or the need to invalidate self or others?
⢠How one can stably change oneâs outlook on life so they can affect positive change?
⢠Where do compulsive destructive behaviors come from and what can be done about them?
⢠How to form closer bonds & keep growing the relationships with the people you care about?
⢠How to enhance oneâs own ability to survive and create positive healthy relationships whether in love, family & friendships or in work, business or oneâs career?
Relationships can be hard and life itself IS challenging. Why not arm yourself with the knowledge and breakthroughs that have been made about the mind, mental reactions & interpersonal relationships, so that one has better awareness and control over themselves and life in general.
Learn where painful experiences are âstoredâ and how they can unknowingly affect us. You will also find out how one can âeraseâ those past painful experiences so that one is free to move forward without being tripped up by the past. Learn too, about what can lead some people to become âtoxicâ personalities and how to identify those traits in others so you wonât be tripped up trusting the wrong person.
Our free Meet-ups occur in a safe environment where one can learn, without fear of judgment or criticism, and without the recommendation of harmful mental techniques or therapies, just how YOU can get yourself onto a happier & more successful path: in love & in life.
We look forward to having you join us!
This class is held at the Dianetics and Scientology Life Improvement Center of Central Ohio.

Free in Person Meeting - Get Over Losses and Betrayls
Do you want more motivation and confidence to build Lasting Relationships?
This is a free, in-person meeting on the subject of betrayals, losses and how to get over them so you can build lasting relationships.
Be sure to click on the red "Attend" button below to come to this local event. We look forward to seeing you there.
This class is held at the Dianetics and Scientology Life Improvement Center.
