Happy New Year Hangover Hike 2026 (9km)
Hello friends,
It feels like "*the last hike of this year*" to me, because I'm planning it now, but in fact it will be the first hike of the year 2026, our traditional *"Happy New Year Hangover Hike"* 💫🧨✨🚀
We went the first time on 1st of January in 2020, we skipped it during the "Corona Winter" 2020/2021, resuming in 2022, which makes this the 6th time!
Let me know when we meet, how many of these you attended!
Let's grab some fresh air after our New Year's parties, let's wish each other a happy New Year, and let's make sure that our alcohol level goes down more slowly by consuming our leftover alcohol from last night 🤪
If there is no concept of "leftover alcohol" in your mindset, you might want to buy an extra bottle.🍾
Otherwise, feel free to bring whatever you like! 🍪🥮🍫
We will meet at the tram/bus station *"Hamilius"* at 12:00 and start the hike around 12:15.
**I strongly encourage everyone to get there by public transport!**
There are buses all over the place, you can take the tram or bus to *"Hamilius"* or take a bus to *"Monterey"* or *"Badanstalt";* both are within 5 minutes of walking distance 🚎🚌
I hope that everyone will be in a good mood and that you can avoid driving. There will be Glühwein, cremant, and wine; sometimes in the past, we even had champagne!🍷🥂🍾
**Itinerary:**
We will walk down to Grund and Clausen, a bit towards Neudorf, then up onto the Kirchberg plateau, where I will try to discover a new area 🥾🥾
Last year, I didn't find the path, because the environment was very different in reality than it looked on the map.
This time I'm more confident, and if we find it, there will be some great views across Clausen towards the city.
Whether we find it or not, our next stop will be on the Kirchberg Plateau, another great view from there.
Finally, we will traverse Pfaffenthal, where we are trying to find out how many hiking groups will fit into the Pfaffenthal elevator.
My bet: Exactly one!
Our walk will end at the Christmas market *"Wanterpark"* on the *"Kinnekswiss*".
There are many options for great food and drinks, and there is a protected space where we can sit without getting cold 🍺🍷🧆🍤🥘🍗🌭🍺
The planned location for our break is the newly discovered area on the Weimershof side of the Kirchberg Plateau, if the intensity and direction of the wind allow for it. Otherwise, we continue to Kirchberg and hide in the fortifications 🏰
There, we can share our leftover Christmas cookies and drinks from the New Year parties. I will bring Glühwein and cremant and I count on you, as usual, for additional supplies! 🥂🍾🍷🍪🥮🍫🥂
The hike is at your own risk, and everyone is responsible for his/her own safety!
Looking forward to hiking with you!
Jens

🍷🎄 Last Christmas Market Luxembourg (13km, no loop) 🍷🎄
Hello Friends!
This will be the last time I'll drag you to a Christmas Market this winter, I promise!
But the Austrian "Spinat Knödel" are too good, I want them one more time.
If you never tried, I highly recommend, and you know what? Let me buy one for everyone who completed all the hikes of 2026!
It's a different path this time again, we did parts of it already in the past, but not the whole thing end to end.
Starting from Howald via Hesperange and Pulvermühl, we go back to the city, ending up at the "Wantermaart" around "Gelle Fra".
Depending on the weather, our mood, and physical condition, we can do a shortcut in the end, not descending to Grund and not climbing the famous 68 steps from the Petrusse valley to place de constitution.
And if someone is totally exhausted, there's an "emergency exit" in Bonnevoie/Hamm, you can take bus 9 from "Kofferfabrik" to Hamilius and wait on the Christmas market until the group arrives.
We will take a few short breaks to have a sip of water or munch on a snack, but there will be no lunch break, as we plan to enjoy the food and drinks at the Christmas market after the hike, such as Bratwurst, Glühwein, Gromperekichelcher, and - of course - Spinatknödel!!!
**Meeting Point:**
We will meet at the tram stop "Scillas" in Howald.
There are not many trains going south, but a tram every few minutes.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/c2A9jyEHhWE9XNqRA
If you happen to take a train to Howald from the south, like RB 6785, leaving Esch at 10:02, Schifflange at 10:06, the Howald tram station is just around the corner from Howald Gare.
This is not a loop; we will start in Howald and end in the city center.
Hamilius tram stop is 2 minutes from the Christmas market, you can get back there easily, in the unlikely event that you came by car and left it in Howald.
Looking forward to having the last Glühwein of the season with you!
(at least on a Christmas market, there might be Glühwein on some hikes again)
Jens.

Level 2 Storytelling Workshop – Deepening Your Story Craft
**Already completed Level 1? Ready to take your storytelling to the next level?**
This advanced, 2-day workshop is designed for storytellers who want to refine and elevate their craft, deepening emotional impact, exploring subtlety, and mastering the art of resonance.
Across two immersive days, you’ll work with your own stories to:
✨ Strengthen your emotional arc: build tension and release for greater impact
🤫 Explore subtext and silence: say more by saying less
🎯 Craft powerful hooks and payoffs: open and close your stories with purpose
🕊️ Weave in symbolism and imagery: add depth and emotional texture.
Through guided exercises, feedback, and performance practice, you’ll learn to make deliberate artistic choices that move your audience on a deeper level.
Whether you tell stories on stage, in the classroom, or in everyday life, this workshop will help you find the emotional heartbeat of your storytelling voice.
Who it’s for: Participants who have completed Level 1 or have prior storytelling experience.
Duration: 2 days
Language: English
[Book your place here](https://fienta.com/storytelling-level-2)
**When is it?**
The 2-day workshop takes place on the following dates:
**15:00-19:00 on Saturday 10 January**
**11:00-17:00 on Sunday 11 January**
**To get the most out of the workshop, I strongly recommend participants attend both sessions.**
On the last day, there will be a chance for everyone to tell their own story in front of the group, if they feel comfortable.
**What is storytelling?**
Storytelling is the social and cultural activity of sharing stories, sometimes with improvisation, theatrics, or embellishment. Every culture has its own stories or narratives, which are shared as a means of entertainment, education, cultural preservation or instilling moral values. If you're new to storytelling, I recommend checking out Mike Birbiglia and The Moth Hour on Youtube to understand our definition of live storytelling.
**What is storytelling not?**
For this workshop, we will not be reading written texts aloud although the workshop does involve writing.
Storytelling in this workshop is not a kind of therapy, although we will be examining our personal narratives to extract authentic stories for sharing.
**What should I bring with me?**
Please bring a notebook, pen, and a personal story that you want to develop further.
There will also be plenty of games and group work, so it is essential that participants can attend both sessions.
Included in the participation fee is tea and coffee. You may also bring your own food and there will be refreshment breaks over the three days.
Because of space limitations, advance registration is compulsory.
**The instructor**
[Jess Bauldry](https://www.jessbauldry.eu/) is a journalist, writer and performer of stand-up comedy. She has an MA in creative writing from the University of Hull and has studied storytelling at Mezrab. A UK/Luxembourg national, she co-founded feminist comedy festival Festrogen and is part of the Luxembourg comedy collective Frilly Curtains Comedy. Both host storytelling events.
This workshop is organised with the generous support of Cid Fraen an Gender.

Humanist Program
Our January program is privileged to have Kristen Tregar as our speaker. Ms. Tregar is the co-author with John de Lancie (the actor who portrayed the character Q on Star Trek next generation) of a radio play depicting the events surrounding the Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District trial. The trial decided the issue of some of the Dover school district board members attempting to insert creationism disguised as "intelligent design" into the 9th grade biology curriculum. She will discuss the trial and the process of writing the play. (Bob Leonhard has seen the play and it is riveting and tense). Ms. Tregar's bio is below:
Kristen Tregar is a dramaturg, director, playwright, and theatre teacher. She earned her Ph.D. in Drama and Theatre from the UC San Diego and UC Irvine joint program. In addition, she has a MS in Forensic Science from City University of New York- John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a MA in Educational Theatre from New York University- Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. In 2013, in collaboration with Irish colleagues, she founded *The Ireland Project*, an intercontinental devised theatre work with high school students in New York and Tallaght, Ireland. Her original short story "Far From Here" was recently published in *Stay Awhile Longer: More Scenes From Temecula Valley*. She has two rescued dogs (Kira and Harry) and she rides, competes, and foxhunts with her horses, Andromache and Baker Street Irregular.
Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk.

Making care packages for unhoused folks
We're collaborating with Westerville Queer Collective to gather supplies and pack care packages. Head over to their event page to [register](https://www.meetup.com/meetup-group-wroejsfn/events/312453970/) officially.
We’ll be assembling care packages with food, warm weather supplies, recreational items like books, and resource guides for local unhoused folks. Packages will then be delivered to HEER2SERVE, local nonprofit that has weekly “serves”, when they go out into local encampment areas and deliver needed items and food. Our care packages will be a part of that.
WQC will supply containers and food items for the care packages. So this time we are primarily focusing on gathering donations for keeping warm, including up to 50 of the following items:
Clean or new socks, hats, scarves and gloves
Handwarmers
Sanitizing wipes
Lighters
You are welcome to contribute items or just come and help pack. Leave a comment if you are bringing donations. We can also accept money donations through WQC.

CMG Gives Back: Food Distribution at CHAMPION FOOD PANTRY!
Start the New Year off right! Join us as we get together to help those in need at this CMG Gives Back event to distribute food at the Champion Food Pantry! We’ve created a great little community of Movie Group friends! Rather than see a movie this time, we’ll help “Create a better world” by helping serve people in need. Here are complete details and our plan for this event:
CHAMPION FOOD PANTRY: The Champion Food Pantry provides needed food to neighbors experiencing food insecurity. For this event, we’ll be volunteering to help with Food Distribution during client pick up times. Our group will receive on-the-spot training from some of their seasoned regular volunteers.
PLAN FOR CHAMPION FOOD PANTRY: Please arrive by 2:45pm. Our volunteer time will be from 3:00 to 6:00pm.
LOCATION & PARKING: The Champion Food Pantry is located at 1460 S. Champion Ave in Columbus. Parking is located in the lot on Frebis across from the pantry. Please enter through the door marked "Volunteers enter here” on Frebis Ave. A map has been uploaded to the photos.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Our group will be providing the majority of the volunteers on this day so a firm RSVP count is essential. Please only sign up if you are certain you’ll be able to attend. If something unavoidable comes up, please update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. No shows or cancelations within 1 week of the event will mak you ineligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve.
LINKS & INFO: Below are some links / attachments with additional info/details:

THANK YOU: This CMG Gives Back event provides an opportunity for YOU to get involved in helping others in our community! But the benefits go well beyond the help we give to others. Volunteering can provide a wide range of personal benefits, including positive effects on mental and physical health, reduced stress/depression/anxiety, increased happiness and improved purpose, life-satisfaction and personal well-being! Plus, the opportunity to get involved, connect with others and help those in need.
PARTNER AGENCY: This event is hosted by Lutheran Social Services (LSS), which serves thousands of people in need each day in 27 Ohio counties by addressing the four core societal issues of food, shelter, safety and healing. LSS offers food through the LSS Food Pantries, housing and supportive services through LSS Faith Mission and LSS Faith Mission of Fairfield County homeless shelters, domestic violence services through LSS CHOICES for Victims of Domestic Violence, senior living and health care, affordable housing communities, and other services that uplift families and strengthen communities.
Thanks for your help and look forward to seeing you there, Dan
