Comedy sein Vater – Absurd-witziges Stand-up Open Mic @TheComedyPub
Comedy sein Vater – Absurd-witziges Stand-up Open Mic @TheComedyPub
**Die absurdeste deutsche Comedy-Show Wiens: jung, wild & unberechenbar. Wer brave Comedy will, geht woanders hin. Willkommen beim Chaos. Sunday Screenings in the Living Room
Sunday Screenings in the Living Room
Weekly screenings from a large archive of many of the most significant, yet seldom seen and rarely accessible cinematic masterpieces in the history of film - from its earliest beginnings to the present day. Screenings are in original language, if English, or original language with English subtitles. Films are selected democratically on the inspiration of a brief pre-screening discussion. The selected title is typically a "neglected gem" that most of us discover together for the first time. Individual taste is not a criterion and all participants are expected to put the interests of the group as a whole above personal preference or prejudice. In this sense, the emphasis is on openness, exploration, and surprise. Each screening is followed by an in-depth group discussion, led and mediated by the curator. WARNNG: FilmStory is not just about watching movies! Rather, it's a socially responsible, intellectual engagement, involving an organic approach to group study of film language, philosophy, art, history, politics, and technology. In this sense, the film is always merely the current highlight in an explorative, ongoing group discussion. **FilmStory** is a members-only series that involves a closely knit community of cinephiles. Events take place every Sunday in a comfortable, private setting with limited capacity. Participation is reserved primarily for regular members, but we're always ready to make new friends! Non-regular members may request to meet the community and, upon acceptance as a "new joiner," are welcome to participate in one event, according to space availability. New joiners are asked to make a €6 member dues contribution in advance of the requested date. New members receive a message of confirmation and the address of the Living Room in 1080 Vienna upon receipt of their dues contribution. **FilmStory** is presented and hosted by **[KulturSalon Wien](https://www.meetup.com/kultursalon-wien/)**.

B. **Designing Clarity Before UX Had a Name** If you work in UX, product, service, or information design; data visualization; or user research — or if you simply care about how **design shapes understanding** — then this event is for you! 100 years ago in Vienna, Marie and Otto Neurath, along with Gerd Arntz, created the **International System of Typographic Picture Education** (ISOTYPE), a design system that transforms data into understanding. This was long before UX even existed. 👉 Join us on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 2 PM for a group visit to the Neurath [exhibition, "Knowledge for All", at the Wien Museum](https://www.wienmuseum.at/knowledge_for_all). We'll walk through the exhibition together, after which we'll have drinks and discuss one central question: **What does it mean to design like this — today?** We'll connect their ideas to today's UX practices: * How do we design for clarity and accessibility at scale? * How do diverse roles align around one shared model of meaning? * And, most fascinatingly, how would the Neuraths approach our challenges now? Action items 1. Select "Attend" to attend the event 2. [Purchase your special exhibition ticket](https://shop.wienmuseum.at/en/tickets/ticket-exhibitions/wissen-fuer-alle-?date=2026-01-31) (only the permanent exhibition is for free) 3. Meet us at the "[Pavillon](https://www.wienmuseum.at/renting_wien_museum_pavillon_und_foyer)". It is right after the entrance. Two Countries, Two Castles & a Winter Landscape: A Social Hike to Břeclav
Two Countries, Two Castles & a Winter Landscape: A Social Hike to Břeclav
Hi everyone! On **Saturday, January 31, 2026**, I am planning a beautiful winter hike from Bernhardsthal (AUT) to Břeclav (CZ). Join for a unique journey as we walk from the northernmost tip of Lower Austria across the "green border" into South Moravia in Czech Republic. This trail offers a beautiful mix of tranquil wetlands, historic architecture (Pohansko castle), and the rare experience of crossing an international border on foot. Fortunately we are able to do this nowadays, it used to be the iron curtain. The wire is gone, but we can still track down the surviving remains of the border's former defences as we cross into South Moravia. I also plan a short walk through the city so we can do a bit of sightseeing in Břeclav (especially Břeclav Castle). **Hike Details** **Duration:** Approx. 5,5 hours (pure walking time including some sightseeing in Břeclav) **Distance:** Approx. 17 km (since I plan to prolong the hike to Břeclav Castle and back) **Elevation:** ↗️ 25m / ↘️ 25m (mostly flat) **Difficulty:** Easy (technically) since it's mostly flat and medium fitness due to the distance. **Pace:** We’ll walk at a comfortable, social pace and take short breaks as needed. More information on the trail: [https://www.bahn-zum-berg.at/weinviertel/bernhardsthal-breclav/](https://www.bahn-zum-berg.at/weinviertel/bernhardsthal-breclav/) Depending on our arrival time and the group’s mood, we might stay a bit longer in Břeclav. After exploring the town's sights, we’ll look for a cozy spot for a well-earned hot chocolate or tea and a chat before catching the train back to Vienna. The most suitable trains back from Břeclav to Vienna are likely 16:28 and 18:28. 📍**Meeting Point & Travel** * **Meeting Time:** 07:45 at **Praterstern station** (Ground floor near ticket machines, exit to platforms 1 & 2). Please arrive early so we can buy the group tickets! * **Departure:** Train REX1 leaves at 08:14 (presumably Platform 4). * **Arrival:** Bernhardsthal at 09:25. ⚠️Since we are crossing an international border on foot, **please don't forget your Passport or Personalausweis.** Even though there usually aren't border controls between Austria and Czechia, you are legally required to have a valid travel document on you. Each person is responsible for their own documents and entry requirements! **The "Einfach-raus" Group Ticket** We will use a group ticket for the Austrian part of the trip. It is much cheaper, but it requires some coordination: * How it works: It is one ticket for a group of 2–5 people. We will form these groups who then have to travel together both directions at the meeting point **at 07:45 - please be on time if you want to participate**. You must travel together for both the departure and the return journey. You cannot split off and take a different train home if you are on a group ticket. * **The Cost:** The more people in a group, the cheaper it gets. Expect to pay between €10 and €19 per person. To be fair, we can either pay by specific group size or pool all money and split it equally. Cash is Mandatory: **Please bring physical cash and coins for the ticket**. We need to collect the money before buying the tickets to make sure everyone gets their change back quickly. Information regardingt this ticket: [https://www.oebb.at/en/tickets-kundenkarten/freizeit-urlaub/einfach-raus-ticket](https://www.oebb.at/en/tickets-kundenkarten/freizeit-urlaub/einfach-raus-ticket) If you prefer not to be tied to a group, or if you aren't sure when you want to head back to Vienna, do not join the group ticket. Instead, buy the VOR Freizeitticket, it costs €19,90 for the day in lower Austria. This will also be your option to still join if you arrive too late for the group ticket. Information regarding this ticket: [https://www.vor.at/en/tickets/ticket-overview/leisure-ticket](https://www.vor.at/en/tickets/ticket-overview/leisure-ticket) Please note that the Einfach-raus ticket, VOR Freizeitticket and the Klimaticket Ostregion/Österreich are only valid until Bernhardsthal. **You must buy your own ticket for the section between Břeclav to Bernhardsthal on the way back**, this is possible in Břeclav. Be careful when buying the ticket! Prices differ between regional trains and fast trains (Railjet/EC), buying the ticket in Břeclav with the Czech railway company is usually slightly cheaper - with ÖBB it's €4,60. The Einfach-raus ticket and VOR Freizeitticket are only valid for regional trains. Make sure your ticket matches the train we are taking. **If you’re unsure about ticket options, don’t worry — just message me directly.** And if this sounds complicated: it isn’t. I’ll help coordinate everything at the meeting point so we can start the hike relaxed. **Please indicate on this link if you are interested in a Einfach-raus ticket** when joining, this helps me with the coordination: [https://nuudel.digitalcourage.de/CZbsc2rp5VbUo3qv](https://nuudel.digitalcourage.de/CZbsc2rp5VbUo3qv) **We’ll walk together at a relaxed, social pace, staying as a group throughout the day.** This is not a race or performance hike — the focus is on shared experience, conversation, and enjoying the winter landscape at an unhurried rhythm. We’ll take regular short breaks whenever useful. There are no huts or restaurants along the way, so please bring your own snacks and drinks (at least 1 liter of water or tea). It will be cold, so dress warmly and wear sturdy winter-appropriate shoes. Some sections may be muddy or slightly icy, depending on the weather. While the path is flat and easy, trekking poles can be a great help for extra stability if we encounter any muddy or icy patches. Don't worry about microspikes (Grödel) unless you really prefer using them; the poles will be more than enough for this terrain. **Disclaimer:** As always, this is a free, private leisure activity. I’m not a certified hiking guide, and participation is at your own responsibility and risk. I will send a weather update to everyone registered on Thursday evening. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Looking forward to seeing you for this winter hike! Jörg ℹ️**Essential logistics** * This trip crosses an international border. **All participants must carry valid travel documents** and are responsible for ensuring they meet the legal requirements to leave Austria and enter the Czech Republic. * **Money:** Card payments are widely accepted in Czech Republic (often more than in Austria!). The currency is Czech Koruna (CZK), but many places take Euros. 1 Euro is currently approx 24 CZK, check exchange rates here. * **Phone Data:** EU roaming rules apply; your Austrian data plan should work at no extra cost (check your provider if using a prepaid/non-EU SIM).

One for the Ages: Columbus Museum of Art / Gemüt Biergarten
One for the Ages: Columbus Museum of Art / Gemüt Biergarten
**History** The Columbus Museum of Art traces its roots to 1878, when it was founded as the Columbus Gallery of Fine Arts, becoming the first art museum chartered in Ohio. A group of civic leaders established it to bring touring exhibitions and build a public collection. In 1887, it merged with the Columbus Art School (now CCAD) fostering a long partnership in arts education. Initially without a permanent home, the museum operated from temporary spaces until 1919, when art patron Francis C. Sessions deeded his Victorian mansion on East Broad Street to house the growing institution. As collections expanded in the early 20th century, the need for a dedicated building became clear. The Sessions mansion was demolished, and a new Italian Renaissance Revival structure was erected on the same site, opening to the public in 1931. This elegant building, with its grand steps and arches, remains the museum's core today and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. Key early acquisitions, like the Ferdinand Howald Collection of modernist works, helped establish its focus on American and European art. In the late 20th and early 21st centuries, the museum evolved significantly. It added the Ross Wing in 1974 for exhibitions and renamed itself the Columbus Museum of Art in 1978 during its centennial. A major renovation and expansion completed in 2015 introduced the Margaret M. Walter Wing and Center for Creativity, emphasizing interactive experiences. In 2018, the donation of the Pizzuti Collection and its Short North building expanded the museum's reach into contemporary art, solidifying its role as a dynamic cultural hub. The Columbus Museum of Art boasts a strong collection of late 19th- and early 20th-century European modern art, featuring well-known masters like Claude Monet, whose Impressionist landscapes capture light and atmosphere in ways familiar to many. Visitors can also encounter works by Henri Matisse, renowned for his bold use of color, and Edgar Degas, famous for his graceful depictions of ballerinas and everyday scenes. The museum's early Cubist holdings include pieces by Pablo Picasso, offering glimpses into his revolutionary fragmented style that reshaped modern art. On the American side, the collection highlights iconic figures such as Edward Hopper, whose evocative paintings of urban solitude and quiet American life are widely recognized, and Norman Rockwell, celebrated for his heartfelt illustrations of everyday Americana that have appeared on countless magazine covers. These accessible works by household-name artists provide an inviting entry point for those new to art museums, blending European innovation with distinctly American storytelling. **Summary** For this event, we will tour the [Columbus Museum of Art](https://www.columbusmuseum.org/), which is always free on Sundays. Afterward, we will head over to the nearby, highly-rated, and popular Gemüt Biergarten for drinks and food. Columbus's art museum is not large, and we won't need to rush through in order to see everything. However, it's a little windy (with a long "i") and maze-like in spots, and if you've never gone through it before, it can be a little confusing at first. **Tickets and Pricing** The Museum is free on Sundays. **Parking** The short answer here is that you can park for free (in the Safe Auto lot) when you visit the Museum on weekends. The longer answer is that the Museum has a dedicated parking lot, whose entrance and exit are on E Gay St, just north of Broad St. You can see this parking lot [here on Google Maps](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Columbus+Museum+Of+Art+Parking/@39.9648853,-82.9882364,18.67z/data=!4m14!1m7!3m6!1s0x883888d20177f111:0xbf595a71d9d8c8c5!2sColumbus+Museum+of+Art!8m2!3d39.9642074!4d-82.9878972!16zL20vMDM0Z3F6!3m5!1s0x883888d21f05e00f:0xb72a56e4ac2d4fba!8m2!3d39.9651763!4d-82.9881746!16s%2Fg%2F11f3pdx3tx?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MTIwOS4wIKXMDSoKLDEwMDc5MjA3MUgBUAM%3D). This parking has normally been $7, unless you buy something either in the Museum's gift shop or café, in which case it's $5 (you have to bring your receipt to the Museum's front desk to get this discount). However, the Museum is currently in the process of upgrading their parking lot's intercom (or some such), and until such time as this is completed, parking in this lot is free. Once this upgrade is complete, though, the charge is likely to increase from $7 to $10. This upgrade is supposed to be done by the time we run this event, but given how these things work, I wouldn't be totally surprised if it's not complete by then. You'll know the lot is free if the gate arms to both the entrance and exit are fixed in a raised position when you arrive. However, there's a large parking lot for Safe Auto on the other side of N Washington Ave, between Boone St and Hutton Pl. You can see this parking lot [here on Google Maps](https://www.google.com/maps/place/39%C2%B057'54.4%22N+82%C2%B059'13.9%22W/@39.9651069,-82.9884087,18z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m4!3m3!8m2!3d39.965105!4d-82.987191?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MTIwOS4wIKXMDSoKLDEwMDc5MjA3MUgBUAM%3D). Visitors to the Museum may always park for free in this lot on weekends. **The End of History** After completing our dissertation in [Art Appreciation](https://www.facebook.com/groups/879880336006462/posts/1734229683904852/), we'll head over to the highly-rated [Gemüt Biergarten](https://www.gemutbiergarten.com/) for [drinks and food](https://www.gemutbiergarten.com/#full-menu). The brewery is located in [Olde Towne East](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Olde+Towne+East,+Columbus,+OH/@39.9600896,-82.9935095,14z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x883888c29b9d98cb:0x55fc96810facc832!8m2!3d39.9579938!4d-82.9761254!16s%2Fm%2F026vlz4?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MTIwOS4wIKXMDSoKLDEwMDc5MjA3MUgBUAM%3D), and its actual address is [734 Oak St, Columbus, OH 43205](https://www.google.com/maps/place/734+Oak+St,+Columbus,+OH+43205/@39.9633755,-82.9808618,16z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x883888c53426d289:0x4aec638d8a5195d4!8m2!3d39.9633755!4d-82.9808618!16s%2Fg%2F11c4wy250w?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MTIwOS4wIKXMDSoKLDEwMDc5MjA3MUgBUAM%3D). Gemüt Biergarten has a free parking lot that isn't small but also isn't huge. Street parking, however, is always free across Columbus on [Sundays and holidays](https://www.columbus.gov/files/sharedassets/city/v/1/public-service/right-of-way-permit/on-street-parking-out-of-service-policy-and-procedure-final-8.15.2022-signed.pdf), so I think we'll be okay with parking. The bigger issue may be the weather. The brewery has a good-sized outdoor patio that is covered and heated in the winter. However, that doesn't mean this patio will be warm. The inside of the brewery is "okay-sized," but again, the brewery is popular and by the time we get there, we may have no choice but to sit outside. If it's cold, I can and will ask them to fire up some of their additional outdoor heaters, which I think should be enough, but please bring something to keep you warm just in case we end up outside. Finally, while food at the Biergarten can be a little overpriced, in my experience it is excellent, and you are likely to enjoy whatever you get. We should be there by 1:00 if you can't make the Museum and just want to meet us for drinks.

Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
[The Board Walks](http://www.theboardwalks.com/) are for curious people who love deep conversations. If that sounds like you, **bring a thoughtful topic** and join us for a 5-mile walk (10,000+ steps!). **HOW IT WORKS** **Step 1: Bring a topic** Before you arrive, think of **one** topic you want to explore. A question. A thought that's been on your mind. An obsession you want to geek out on. This is your ticket to the event. **Step 2: Circle up & share** We gather in a circle. Your friendly walk host gives a speech to set the tone. Everyone shares: your name, what you're grateful for, and your topic. That's it. 60 seconds. **Step 3: Walk, talk & float** We walk 5 miles. You naturally drift into conversation with 2-3 people at a time, pulled by topics that spark your curiosity. When you're ready to move on, just say: "I'm going to float!" **Step 4: Feel more alive** Two hours flies by. You're back where you started — but you feel different. More alive. More energized. More connected to yourself and others. That's why regulars join 20+ times. *For more details, read our [Orientation Guide.](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation)* **HOW TO BRING A GREAT TOPIC** A great topic = something you're genuinely curious about. Recent topics include: * "What are you passionate about right now?" * "What makes a good friend?" * "What's a belief you used to hold that you've completely changed?" * "How do you want to be remembered?" * "What would you do if money wasn't a factor?" Think of your topic like the dish you're bringing to our conversational potluck. If everyone brings an A+ dish (i.e. energizing, uplifting, expansive), we'll all walk away feeling lighter and brighter. **WHAT TO EXPECT** This isn't a fitness event with casual chitchat. It's a walking think tank where we explore life's big questions together, beyond small talk. *If you're looking for light banter or a standard networking event, this probably isn't the right fit.* But if you crave depth, genuine connection, and conversations that make you feel alive? You'll love it here. **FAQ** * Wear casual athletic attire and sneakers. It's a long walk! * We have multiple first-timers at each event. We work hard to create a welcoming, inclusive, clique-free space. * We welcome people of **all** ages, backgrounds, and industries who align with the [intention](https://www.theboardwalks.com/ground-rules) of this space. * Rain or shine, we've been out here nearly every week since July 2022. If the event is cancelled, we'll let you know. * Dogs, babies in strollers, parents, and friends are welcome — please text/email them the event link so they can RSVP and prepare a topic! **LOGISTICS** * If you'll arrive over 10 minutes late, we suggest skipping the event. It's hard to find us once we start walking, and your host can't answer messages during the event. * This walk is designed for everyone to *move together at the same steady pace* (about 20 min/mile). This format works best when the whole group moves in unison. If you have mobility limitations, we kindly encourage you to find an event better suited to your needs. * Read our [Orientation Guide](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation) for full details. * If you enjoy the event, send **[this](http://www.theboardwalks.com/)** to a friend or sign up for our **[newsletter](https://theboardwalks.beehiiv.com/)**. We're in multiple cities with more on the way. 🤠👋 **IF YOU WANT TO GO DEEPER...** [The Board](https://stan.store/ellebeecher/p/the-board) is the next step: a high-trust collective for renaissance people devoted to creating, connecting, and building lives that light us up. * This is a global HQ for people who crave big talk, deep connection, and dream collaborations with people across industries. If the walks feel like a spark... The Board is the fire. Apply [here](https://stan.store/ellebeecher/p/the-board).
