A: Yes, as long as you are confident you can run the full advertised distance for the week's run without needing to stop to walk. Q: Are there designated pacers? A: We sometimes have official pacers. Pacers (if any) will be announced during the briefing. Q: Is there a bag drop? A: No, there is no bag drop service. Our road runs are point-to-point (we run from A to B and do not return to the start), so please only bring what you are comfortable running with. Q: How do we get back from the end point? A: We always plan our routes to end near an MRT station or a major bus interchange, ensuring you have a convenient way to get home. Q: Are there water points along the route? A: Availability of public water coolers varies with each route. We recommend bringing your own water. There are usually convenience stores along the way where you can purchase a drink if needed. Q: What happens if it rains? A: This is a rain-or-shine event. In the case of heavy rain, we may delay the start by up to 10 minutes to see if the weather improves, but the run will not be cancelled. Q: What should I bring with me? A: Please wear comfortable running attire suitable for Singapore's humid climate. Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor. The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event. Our March speakers are Molly Gaines and Zack Parrish, co-organizers of the Secular Education Association: They will share their story of how a small group of Ohio parents grew into a national organization tracking released-time religious instruction and other church–state issues in public schools. The presentation will cover SEA’s early wins and hard lessons, what we’re seeing nationally right now, and how local advocates can play a meaningful role in protecting public education. We will then hike Hickory Ridge, Ripple Rock, Overlook and Sugarbush trails to get approximately four miles total distance. We will walk approximately a 18 minute mile pace.
