🍀🧠 Trivia Night @ Stout Irish Pub. Accessible venue (except washrooms)
🍀🧠 **Trivia Night @ Stout Irish Pub**
Looking for a **Monday night out** that’s social, low-pressure, and actually fun? Trivia at **Stout Irish Pub** is one of those rare events where you can **laugh, drink, shout incorrect answers with confidence**, and still have a great time.
You do **not** need to be a trivia genius. You just need a sense of humour, a willingness to guess wildly, and the ability to say, *“Wait… I think I’ve heard this before?”* This is very much a **team effort**, and honestly, half the fun is the group debate over answers we are *definitely wrong about*.
Stout Irish Pub brings the cozy pub vibes, solid food and drinks, and a trivia crowd that’s friendly, lively, and never too serious about it. Whether you’re competitive or just there for the laughs, you’ll fit right in.
🕖 About the Event
**Meetup Time:** 6:30pm — just **ask for Colleen’s group** when you arrive!
**Trivia Starts:** **7:00 PM** and runs until around **9:30 P**M
Expect a lively mix of **pop culture, history, music, sports, and random fun question.** Whether you come solo or bring a friend, we’ll make sure everyone’s part of a team. 🧩💬
💸 Cost & Policy
Everyone must spend at least **$10 (plus tax & tip)** at the pub.
**NEW POLICY:**
* 🆕 *First-timers* must send a **$5 deposit** by e-transfer to \*\*[tommills@rogers.com**](http://tommills@rogers.com%2A%2A/) and message Colleen right away on this page or the sign-up page.
* 💌 There will be a **$1 reminder charge** if you don’t send the deposit promptly, for each reminder.
* 👥 You may bring **1 guest**, but please e-transfer **$10** in advance. You’ll be refunded once your guest arrives.
\#\#\# 🧠 Why You’ll Love It
Trivia night isn’t just about questions — it’s about **connection, laughter, and teamwork**. Come test your wits, cheer on your tablemates, and enjoy the buzz of a pub full of friendly faces. Whether you’re a trivia pro or just in it for the fun, it’s always a great time!

❄️🚶♂️ JANUARY WALK: SPADINA ➡️ WATERFRONT AND LUNCH!
❄️🚶♂️ **JANUARY WALK: SPADINA ➡️ WATERFRONT + LUNCH & DAY DRINKING** 🍔🍹
**Because winter doesn’t scare us — we scare winter.**
“There’s no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.”
So layer up, grab your cutest toque, and let’s make January our personality 😏
Join us for a **city walk through some of Toronto’s most iconic neighbourhoods**, ending with lunch, drinks, and that smug feeling you get when you actually *leave the house in winter*. Miss this and your January will officially be beige. FOMO will be real.
***
### THE WALK 🗺️✨
We’ll start at **Spadina Station** and head south, soaking up the city one fabulous step at a time.
• **Kensington Market** 🛍️ – over 100 years of history, culture, and vibes. From its roots as a Jewish market to the many immigrant communities that shaped it, this place is Toronto’s heartbeat.
• **Chinatown** 🏮 – now home to many Asian communities, buzzing with markets, food, and energy.
• **Graffiti Alley** 🎨 – yes, *world-famous*. Iconic murals, photoshoot moments, and peak Toronto cool.
• **Mueseum of Toronto** 🖼️ **-** This is free a mueseum - Mr. Dressup to Degrassi: 42 Years of Legendary Toronto Kids TV
• **The Well** 🏗️ – shiny, new, and very “Toronto glow-up.”
• **Crumbl Cookies** 🍪 – because walking burns calories and we deserve happiness.
• **Waterfront** 🌊 – fresh air, winter drama, and main-character energy.
After the walk, we’ll head for **lunch and drinks at a local spot**.
Did someone say **day drinking???** 👀🍹
***

CMG Gives Back: Food Distribution at CHAMPION FOOD PANTRY!
Start the New Year off right! Join us as we get together to help those in need at this CMG Gives Back event to distribute food at the Champion Food Pantry! We’ve created a great little community of Movie Group friends! Rather than see a movie this time, we’ll help “Create a better world” by helping serve people in need. Here are complete details and our plan for this event:
CHAMPION FOOD PANTRY: The Champion Food Pantry provides needed food to neighbors experiencing food insecurity. For this event, we’ll be volunteering to help with Food Distribution during client pick up times. Our group will receive on-the-spot training from some of their seasoned regular volunteers.
PLAN FOR CHAMPION FOOD PANTRY: Please arrive by 2:45pm. Our volunteer time will be from 3:00 to 6:00pm.
LOCATION & PARKING: The Champion Food Pantry is located at 1460 S. Champion Ave in Columbus. Parking is located in the lot on Frebis across from the pantry. Please enter through the door marked "Volunteers enter here” on Frebis Ave. A map has been uploaded to the photos.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Our group will be providing the majority of the volunteers on this day so a firm RSVP count is essential. Please only sign up if you are certain you’ll be able to attend. If something unavoidable comes up, please update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. No shows or cancelations within 1 week of the event will mak you ineligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve.

THANK YOU: This CMG Gives Back event provides an opportunity for YOU to get involved in helping others in our community! But the benefits go well beyond the help we give to others. Volunteering can provide a wide range of personal benefits, including positive effects on mental and physical health, reduced stress/depression/anxiety, increased happiness and improved purpose, life-satisfaction and personal well-being! Plus, the opportunity to get involved, connect with others and help those in need.
PARTNER AGENCY: This event is hosted by Lutheran Social Services (LSS), which serves thousands of people in need each day in 27 Ohio counties by addressing the four core societal issues of food, shelter, safety and healing. LSS offers food through the LSS Food Pantries, housing and supportive services through LSS Faith Mission and LSS Faith Mission of Fairfield County homeless shelters, domestic violence services through LSS CHOICES for Victims of Domestic Violence, senior living and health care, affordable housing communities, and other services that uplift families and strengthen communities.
Thanks for your help and look forward to seeing you there, Dan
Leave the Past Behind, Burning Bowl Ceremony at Unity of Columbus
As we prepare to enter a new year, the Burning Bowl Ceremony offers a powerful and heartfelt opportunity to let go of what no longer serves us and make space for new beginnings.
You are warmly invited to join us for this sacred and reflective ritual. The Burning Bowl Ceremony is a beloved Unity tradition—an empowering moment where we release old patterns, worries, or limiting beliefs by writing them down and symbolically releasing them into the flame. This act of letting go opens the door to clarity, peace, and transformation.
COUNT RMH Housewarmer Volunteering (Ronald McDonald House)
Some trained COUNT volunteers work together once a month at RMH (http://www.rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer.php) as Housewarmers (usually on the 1st Sunday from 1 – 5 PM). Some schedule other shifts at their convenience. You may try this out with less fuss by following a "Fast track" or go through the normal process.
Fast track
• Arrange a time to shadow a COUNT volunteer. Call Dave Nohle at 614-268-9558 (cell).
• Show up and try it out.
• Complete application, etc. later.
Normal process
• Complete an online application (http://rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer/).
• Attend orientation in advance.
• At orientation you will complete forms agreeing to keep family/patient info private and allowing a background check and tour the facility.
• Complete one training shift. Daily shifts are: morning 9 AM - 1 PM, afternoon 1 - 5 PM and evening 5 - 9 PM.
• Schedule shifts online using the on the RMH scheduling system (http://www.volgistics.com/ex/portal.dll/?FROM=32895).
The Ronald McDonald House (RMH) provides housing and meals for families with sick children. The Columbus RMH is the largest in the world with 137 rooms. COUNT has been volunteering there since May 2014.
Housewarmers work with RMH guests to provide a home-like environment - greet, assist with family needs, answer phones, give tours, assist with checkin/checkout, prepare guest rooms after checkout, clean facility, laundry, restock supplies and staff the front desk. RMH Housewarmers volunteer at least one four-hour shift a month. All Housewarmers must complete an application and agree to a background check before they can be full fledged volunteers.

Humanist Program
Our January program is privileged to have Kristen Tregar as our speaker. Ms. Tregar is the co-author with John de Lancie (the actor who portrayed the character Q on Star Trek next generation) of a radio play depicting the events surrounding the Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District trial. The trial decided the issue of some of the Dover school district board members attempting to insert creationism disguised as "intelligent design" into the 9th grade biology curriculum. She will discuss the trial and the process of writing the play. (Bob Leonhard has seen the play and it is riveting and tense). Ms. Tregar's bio is below:
Kristen Tregar is a dramaturg, director, playwright, and theatre teacher. She earned her Ph.D. in Drama and Theatre from the UC San Diego and UC Irvine joint program. In addition, she has a MS in Forensic Science from City University of New York- John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a MA in Educational Theatre from New York University- Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. In 2013, in collaboration with Irish colleagues, she founded *The Ireland Project*, an intercontinental devised theatre work with high school students in New York and Tallaght, Ireland. Her original short story "Far From Here" was recently published in *Stay Awhile Longer: More Scenes From Temecula Valley*. She has two rescued dogs (Kira and Harry) and she rides, competes, and foxhunts with her horses, Andromache and Baker Street Irregular.
Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk.
Going forward our meetings will be hybrid. You can meet us in-person or attend online
