TFS Presents a Mother's Day Musical Double Feature
TFS Presents a Mother's Day Musical Double Feature
Make it a Mother’s Day outing at the movies with a musical double feature that’s equal parts sparkle and heart. Start with *Gold Diggers of 1933*, the ultimate backstage crowd-pleaser, featuring the famous Busby Berkeley production numbers that basically invented “movie musical spectacle.” Then settle into *Lili*, a tender, charming story set around a travelling carnival - a film that’s pure classic-Hollywood warmth. This is the film that introduced the hit song Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo! Two timeless films, one great afternoon, and a perfect excuse to go to the theatre! Tarragon Theatre: cicadas
Tarragon Theatre: cicadas
World Premiere-- *Ticket link is below*. $30-$72 (look at the seating map--and your age!) In 2035, a decade after the Trinity Bellwoods Collapse, an investigation into the mysterious disappearance of a young girl leads to a very peculiar house that has sunk into the earth. **Could a strangely luminous painting** unlock long-buried secrets of what flowed beneath the home? Howling winds, storms, and the ever-present sound of cicadas remind us that nothing stays buried. ***cicadas*** is a modern eco-thriller from the minds of Governor General’s Award and Siminovitch Prize laureate David Yee and award-winning composer Chris Thornborrow that serves as both mystery and warning. Directed by Nina Lee Aquino https://nac-cna.ca/en/bio/nina-lee-aquino **Ticket link here: (Sunday May 10th)** https://tarragontheatre.com/plays/2025-2026/cicadas/ (Play around with the seating map, and ticket prices. Once everyone’s arrived, I will lead quick introductions and then set the timer for our quiet and focused writing session. Afterward, we’ll have time to chat and get to know each other. We often talk about our successes and challenges as writers. If you don’t have time to stick around, no worries! **A note about the format** We don’t host critiques or readings. In-Person Writing Sprints
In-Person Writing Sprints
Struggling with motivation and focus as you hammer away on your manuscript at home? Want to join a community of writers as we embrace the joys and pains (mostly pains) of writing together? Bring your laptop, pen & paper, old-school typewriter, or futuristic writing gadget, and join an enthusiastic community of science fiction and fantasy writers as we work on our current projects in the same space. The format will be similar to our online writing sprints: 30-minute blocks of focused, quiet writing time (the sprints), interspersed with breaks where we can chat, ask questions, and share our writing experiences.
