Philosophy Group Meeting -- Hebrew
Join us in the search for the true, the good and the beautiful.
Each meet is in one of two formats: a shared reading and open discussion of philosophical texts, or a continuing series of lectures based on the reading of a fascinating book of philosophy. Both formats are in Hebrew, with some reading of English texts, assisted whenever needed.
We meet weekly Friday on 80 Rokach Boulevard, Tel Aviv, at the gardens of the Council for a Beautiful Israel.
Welcome anyone interested in understanding life more deeply, regardless of age or prior knowledge. The love of wisdom is enough.

โYouโre likely underutilizing the most powerful piece of your infrastructure.
โWhile most devs treat Postgres as a reliable container for rows and columns, itโs actually a sophisticated engine capable of handling complex data challenges.
โFrom mastering deep, nested hierarchies with lightning-fast traversal to image deduplication and similarity search at scale (no vectors!).
โIn this session we will move beyond standard queries to show how built-in indexing and specialized data types can replace external microservices, and simplify your stack. Come see why the most powerful tool in your stack is likely the one youโre already running.

โLogs, traces, metrics, correlation IDs โ observability promises clarity when systems get complex. But in Node.js, these tools are not free, and used without care they can become a serious performance bottleneck. In this talk, Iโll share real-world lessons from production Node.js systems where adding observability actually degraded performance. Weโll look at the hidden costs of logging, async logging, AsyncLocalStorage, distributed tracing, and high-cardinality metrics โ and why these issues often only appear under real load.

Shut Up & Write!ยฎ at Beit Ariela
Join us for some focused writing time. All writers and all experience levels are welcome and donโt worry, no one will see what you've written. This session is about getting your writing done and meeting other writers in your area.
When you show up, say hello to everyone, grab a drink, and get your writing tools ready. Once youโre all settled, take some time to chat with your fellow writers. Once everyoneโs arrived, I will lead quick introductions and then set the timer for our quiet and focused writing session.
Afterward, weโll have time to chat and get to know each other. We often talk about our successes and challenges as writers. If you donโt have time to stick around, no worries!
**A note about the format**
We donโt host critiques or readings. These events are a safe space for writers of all skill levels and genres to work on their craft, so no one will read or critique your writing.

**Abstract**
*Spec-Driven Development with GitHub Spec-Kit: From Intent to Implementation*
Spec-driven development flips the traditional workflow on its head: instead of code being the source of truth, the specification becomes the backbone of design, collaboration, and delivery. In this session, weโll explore how GitHub Spec-Kit enables teams to treat specifications as first-class artifactsโliving documents that drive architecture, implementation, and verification.
Youโll learn how Spec-Kit helps teams clearly express intent using structured, version-controlled specs that live alongside code. Weโll walk through a practical workflow that starts with defining system behavior and constraints, then progressively refines those specs into testable, automatable outcomes. Along the way, weโll show how specs can reduce ambiguity, improve cross-functional collaboration, and make design decisions explicit before a single line of production code is written.
This talk will cover:
--What spec-driven development is (and what it isnโt)
--How GitHub Spec-Kit fits into modern developer workflows
--Using specs to align product, engineering, and AI-assisted development
--Real-world examples of turning specs into implementations with confidence
Whether youโre building greenfield systems, integrating AI into your stack, or trying to reduce costly rework, spec-driven development offers a scalable way to move faster without sacrificing clarity. Attendees will leave with concrete patterns and a clear mental model for adopting GitHub Spec-Kit in their own projects.

COUNT monthly event: Kitchen service at Van Buren Center's shelter
Come assist Van Buren Shelter (https://ymcacolumbus.org/locations/vanburen) staff in serving dinners and cleaning up on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Dinner for the women is 5-6 pm and for the families is 6:15-7:15 pm. There is ample free parking available in the shelter's lot. The recommended area to park is in green in the image above.
There will be a new entrance for the time being. We are asking all volunteers to enter through the Donation Dock door, the orange mark on the image above. This door is located between the Single Adults and Family Shelter. You will see 2 large garage doors with a large green trash compactor in the center. Please head to the closest garage door to the building wall, with a ramp leading up. There, you will see a door with a sign stating instructions on how to enter the building. Please ring the doorbell, and a staff member will come and escort you into the building. If a staff member takes longer than 5 minutes, please call the front desk at 614-689-2020. This is a new process for us, and we do not want to keep you waiting! We appreciate your patience as we navigate this temporary change.
The shelter needs a volunteer count the day before the event so sign-up ends Monday at 4:50 PM. Afterwards some of us go to the Omnipresent Atheists Weekly Meetup in progress to have a bit to eat or drink (http://www.meetup.com/omnipresentatheists/).
Volunteers must be 14 or older. Since we will be working around families, the YMCA does not permit volunteering by individuals with convictions for violent or sexual crimes. The YMCA reserves the right to run background checks on volunteers.
For questions, comment on this page or contact: Andrew, awhit12@yahoo.com, (614)937-5802 (cell). Please let Andrew know if you volunteer anytime other than our COUNT events so that he can count your hours toward our service record.

These open micโstyle events give anyone in the community up to **5 minutes** to present a project, share a tool, pose a question, or offer a perspective on the evolving AI space.
No slides required โ just a welcoming space to exchange ideas and keep the local AI conversation moving.
If youโd like to take the stage, message **Chris (the organizer)** with a **title and short description** of what youโd like to share.
Whether youโre deep in the field or just getting curious, come connect with others building and exploring AI in Columbus.
