[Arnhem] English subs: Love Me Tender
\# This meetup is around a third\-party organizer\, Focus Filmtheater\. You can either purchase your ticket online or right before the session\. **Seats are numbered**. #
**Title**: Love Me Tender
**Language**: French
**Subtitles**: English
**Length**: 134 min
**Director**: Anna Cazenave Cambet
**More info**: https://www.focusarnhem.nl/agenda/english-subs-love-me-tender/
**Ticket link**: https://www.focusarnhem.nl/tickets/144300/
**Synopsis:**
In the midst of a painful divorce, Clémence realizes she no longer recognizes her life. Seeking freedom, she embarks on a journey of self-discovery that leads to a sapphic love affair.
Her ex-husband uses this against her in a custody battle for their child. Anna Cazenave Cambet adapts Constance Debré’s autobiographical novel with sensitivity and precision. Beyond its commentary on homophobia and sexism, the film offers a moving reflection on motherhood and freedom, a modern *Kramer vs. Kramer* in French form.
**How it works**:
I will be at Focus around 18:15, where we can meet before the movie starts. You can message me to find us. Screening starts at 18:45. After the movie, we can have a drink together.
Hope to see you soon!
* VSCode
* PlatformIO
We maken gebruik van:
* Claude / ChatGPT
* GitHub Copilot
Er zijn enkele ESP32-boardjes beschikbaar om tijdens de workshop te gebruiken.
**Voorbereiding**
Het is handig om vooraf alvast enkele zaken op je laptop te installeren. Zie volgende document:
**[Voorbereidingen voor de WorkShop](https://iotapeldoorn.nl/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/voorbereidingen-workshop.pdf)**
**Kosten**
Deelname kost €5,- inclusief drankjes.
**Planning**
* Inloop: 19:00
* Start workshop: 19:30
* Einde: 22:30
We zien jullie graag op woensdagavond 27 mei 2026!
Vibe Coding: Build & Monetize an iOS App in 60 Minutes
Most apps don’t fail because of code — they fail because they don’t **make money**.
In this live, hands-on session, we’ll build a real iOS app from scratch using AI-assisted (vibe) coding — and **integrate monetization** from the very beginning.
No theory. Just a **real app, built step by step**.

**Power BI Governance: The Foundations Matter More Than Ever**
Practical lessons for governing Power BI at scale.
A practical look at the Power BI governance foundations that still matter - even as the platform has evolved into being one workload of many within MS Fabric, surrounded by AI hype. Laz first delivered this talk in 2019. Before ChatGPT. Before Copilot. Before Fabric. He's giving it again in 2026 because the framework hasn't needed to change and because AI doesn't fix bad governance, it accelerates the consequences of it. The talk walks the practical journey between the different Power BI Deployment Approaches and covers the factors to set up between them. In short: the factors have not changed. The cost of skipping them has.

Data Thursday
𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 — 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 🌱
On **Thursday, May 28**, we are proud to host a special **Data Thursday** edition at **B. Amsterdam**:
**Cloud & Climate Pub Quiz** ☁️🌍
This will not be a classic sit-back-and-listen meetup.
This is a **taste-of-tech game night** where #climate, #cloud, #AI, #CO₂, #costoptimisation and a bit of controlled chaos come together in one big interactive quiz.
At **Data Tribes & EcoVerum,** we believe that climate impact, sustainability reporting and regenerative transformation all start with better data. This evening brings that belief to life in the most Data Thursday way possible: with sharp questions, practical insights, team play, pizza and drinks.
Your personal quiz masters for the evening:
👷♂️ **Henk van der Valk**
Platform & Intelligence Architect
👷♂️ **Marcel van der Kuil**
Data & AI Impact Engineer
Together, Henk and Marcel will join forces as **Buurman & Buurman for Cloud & Climate**, fixing things one quiz round at a time.
Think climate science, cloud optimisation, AI-assisted answers, sharp questions, practical insights and probably a few moments of **“A je to!”** along the way.
The evening includes three rounds:
🌍 **National Climate Quiz**
🌡️ **Climate Interactive EN-ROADS simulator**
☁️ **Cloud optimisation: cost, CO₂ and Scope 3**
Bring your laptop. Teams will compete for points, prizes and eternal Data Thursday glory.
AI is allowed, but beware: some answers need to be explained in your own words.
𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺
**// 18:00** — Doors open + pizza
**// 18:30 – 19:15** — First round
**// 19:15 – 20:00** — Second round
**// 20:00 – 20:45** — Third round
**// 20:45 – 21:00** — Wrap-up / evaluation
**// 21:00 – 21:30** — Drinks & networking
**// 21:30** — End
📍 **The Henry, B. Amsterdam — B.1**
Johan Huizingalaan 763a, Amsterdam
A big thank you to **B. Amsterdam** for once again supporting the Data Thursday community.
Because without reliable data, there is no reliable climate action.
And this time, we are testing what grows when cloud, climate, AI and community come together.
Greetings,
Data Tribes Inc & EcoVerum
Scalable Data Harvesting for AI
Every AI pipeline starts with one question: where does the data come from?
In this hands-on workshop, we'll answer that question using Scrapy, one of Python's most powerful web scraping frameworks. You'll go from a blank project to a working spider that harvests structured data from the web, ready to feed into your next AI or data science project.
We'll cover:
• Scrapy vs. lighter tools (Requests & Beautiful Soup), and when each makes sense
• Extracting data from HTML using CSS selectors
• Following links and handling pagination at scale
• Writing clean, structured output to a file
• The ethical and legal side of web scraping
Bonus (Gold Star): a chapter on scraping JavaScript-rendered pages for those who want to go further.
🐍 Python basics assumed — no prior scraping experience needed

**Speaker #2**: Jingwei Kang from University of Amsterdam
**Title**: Following the Eye-Tracking Evidence: Established Web-Search Assumptions Fail in Carousel Interfaces
**Abstract**: Carousel interfaces have been the de-facto standard for streaming media services for over a decade. Yet, there has been very little research into user behavior with such interfaces, which thus remains poorly understood. Due to this lack of empirical research, previous work has assumed that behaviors established in single-list web-search interfaces, such as the F-pattern and the examination hypothesis, also apply to carousel interfaces, for instance when designing click models or evaluation metrics. We analyze a recently-released interaction and examination dataset resulting from an eye-tracking study performed on carousel interfaces to verify whether these assumptions actually hold.
We find that (i) the F-pattern holds only for vertical examination and not for horizontal swiping; additionally, we discover that, when conditioned on a click, user examination follows an L-pattern unique to carousel interfaces; (ii) click-through-rates conditioned on examination indicate that the well-known examination hypothesis does not hold in carousel interfaces; and (iii) contrary to the assumptions of previous work, users generally ignore carousel headings and focus directly on the content items. Our findings show that many user behavior assumptions, especially concerning examination patterns, do not transfer from web search interfaces to carousel recommendation settings. Our work shows that the field lacks a reliable foundation on which to build models of user behavior with these interfaces. Consequently, a re-evaluation of existing metrics and click models for carousel interfaces may be warranted.
**Bio**: Jingwei Kang is a third-year PhD student at the IRLab at University of Amsterdam. His main research interest is preference learning. During PhD, his main research focus is on recommender systems in carousel interfaces.
**Speaker #3:** Yongkang Li from University of Amsterdam
**Title:** Spectral Tempering for Embedding Compression in Dense Passage Retrieval
**Abstract:** Dimensionality reduction is critical for deploying dense retrieval systems at scale, yet mainstream post-hoc methods face a fundamental trade-off: principal component analysis (PCA) preserves dominant variance but underutilizes representational capacity, while whitening enforces isotropy at the cost of amplifying noise in the heavy-tailed eigenspectrum of retrieval embeddings. Intermediate spectral scaling methods unify these extremes by reweighting dimensions with a power coefficient gamma, but treat gamma as a fixed hyperparameter that requires task-specific tuning. We show that the optimal scaling strength gamma is not a global constant: it varies systematically with target dimensionality k and is governed by the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the retained subspace. Based on this insight, we propose Spectral Tempering (SpecTemp), a learning-free method that derives an adaptive gamma(k) directly from the corpus eigenspectrum using local SNR analysis and knee-point normalization, requiring no labeled data or validation-based search. Extensive experiments demonstrate that Spectral Tempering consistently achieves near-oracle performance relative to grid-searched gamma^(k) while remaining fully learning-free and model-agnostic.
**Bio:** Yongkang is a third-year PhD student at the IR Lab at the University of Amsterdam. He is very interested in embedding-based retrieval systems. His main research focuses on the robustness and generalization of dense retrieval.
**Counter:** SEA Talks #305, #306 and #307.
The Mother of all Chapter Meetings: The Hidden Agenda of Testing
🎟️ **[REGISTER FOR THIS EVENT HERE](https://www.ministryoftesting.com/chapters/mot-netherlands/events/mot-netherlands-280526)** 🎟️
**The MoaCM ... which sounds a bit like Mokum (nickname for Amsterdam).**
Every tester knows there’s always more going on beneath the surface: the unspoken questions, the unexpected discoveries, the “wait… what just happened?” moments that shape our craft. Our next chapter meeting leans right into that spirit. We’re pulling back the curtain on the things we don’t always talk about, the stories that don’t make the slides, and the hidden agendas that quietly steer our testing journeys.
We offer you an evening full of curiosity, connection, and a few delightful surprises. Two awesome speakers will take the stage with talks crafted especially for this event.
Sorry, no spoilers, but trust me, you will want to be in the room when they drop their insights. Add great food, lightning talks, stroopwafels, and the kind of hallway conversations that only happen at Ministry of Testing gatherings, and you’ve got yourself a night worth marking in bold on your calendar.
**PROGRAM:**
**17:00 – Arrival & Grabbing a Seat**
Ease in, find your spot, and enjoy your complimentary stroopwafel. Consider it the warm‑up round for your brain.
**17:20 – Opening Remarks**
A quick kickoff to set the tone and spark your curiosity.
**17:30 – Talk 1: Sanne Visser**
The wheel is spinning but the hamster is stuck.
(Knowing Sanne, expect something sharp, thoughtful, and delightfully unexpected).
**18:30 – Dinner**
Fuel up with good food, because even testers need to keep their internal combustion engines running smoothly.
**19:30 – Talk 2: Veerle Verhagen**
tba… (And yes, Veerle will absolutely bring her ever-present energy, brilliant insight, and probably a twist we will not see coming).
**20:30 – Closing & Lightning Talks**
A few final thoughts from your chapter lead, followed by the community taking the mic. Share an idea, pitch a question, or drop a testing gem … lightning‑style.
**Followed by – Networking Drinks**
Stay, chat, unwind, and connect. No fixed end time; we leave when the energy fades or the building politely tells us it’s time to go.

Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for June is "Roadtrip"
Speak Easy: true stories, told live.
The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast.
Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect.
The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
Summer Flex Season
**How does a TennisColumbus Season / League run?**
The league advertises the season dates and builds a queue of committed players for the season.
**Kickoff Day - June 10th**
The start day of the season, players are sent a kickoff email that contains important information about the league, the link where your league standings and players contact information. We guarantee 6 playing partners at your playing level, but have been averaging closer to 15+ partners in most cities. The number of different levels we run is solely based upon the number of players enrolled for the league kickoff. Typically we are running a Skilled-3.0, Competitive-3.5 and Advanced-4.0 in most cities.
**Your Task - "Flexible Scheduling"**
After this kickoff email is sent, it is the **player's task to communicate with other players**. Players should work with their partners to find an agreeable time and location to play the match. While TennisColumbus doesn't mandate your playing schedule, it is recommended that players schedule at least one match per week. By request of the players, we started to allow players to play 1 rematch per season. The regular season is all about playing as much as you can. As of Feb. 10, 2026 we've had an amazing 2,017 players play more than [20 matches in a season](https://www.tenniscolumbus.com/info/MatchesInSeason).
**Where to Play?**
Play at your local free tennis courts, tennis parks, condo courts or tennis clubs. The league strongly suggests that players jointly try to pick a tennis court location convenient to both. We provide an extensive list of [tennis courts](https://www.tenniscolumbus.com/TennisCourts), including # of courts, lighting, hitting walls, etc. We strive to keep this list up-to-date.
TennisColumbus sets up a must play dates to push players out on the courts. The final deadline is the date marking the end of the season, at which point players with 3-5 wins (Actually total is specified on the division page) will qualify for a post-season playoff to determine the league champion.
**How to Play?**
Players can use three mostly standard playing formats: 2 out of 3 sets, 2 sets with 10 point super tie-breaker or the 10-game pro set (First to 10, used when court time is limited). On Feb. 2018, we added Fast Tennis 4 game pro set format as a valid format.
**Playoffs**
Each season concludes with a playoffs where players with anywhere from 3 to 5 season wins qualifies for a single elimination tourney. The champion is awarded based upon the league [Prize Pool](https://www.tenniscolumbus.com/info/prize_pool3). Each singles league champion also receives a playing entry into one of two national championships we run.
**[JOIN TODAY](https://www.tenniscolumbus.com/join)**
Full price is $39.95 to play in a season. The earlier you sign up we typically offer discounts during these tough economic times. Just go to the [Join Page](https://www.tenniscolumbus.com/join) and complete the short form. We'd be happy to find you dedicated tennis playing partners.
