These classes focus on weapon practice. Many aikido techniques have their origin in weapons handling and thus are related with Japanese weapon arts like Kendo. Using a weapon as an extension of the hand, it generates higher impact speed and creates different danger and distance perception. On the other side, perfection of cuts and draws is a very meditational and focused practice. Despite danger, the mind should stay clear and movements should be very precise. Practitioners will learn how to fight seamlessly from stand up to the ground, using a mix of street style striking and kicking, takedowns, to ground grappling, even against a knife being drawn while on the ground. Whether it be one attacker or multiple attackers, participants will learn how to use relative positioning and the environment to defend and create the opportunity to escape. What if your attacker was to draw a knife or worst, a machete?
