Seletar Reservoirs Walk
Meet: Khatib MRT (NS14) Passenger Service Centre
When: Sunday March 8th 5 pm\*\*
Sign up here:
https://www.eventbrite.sg/e/seletar-reservoirs-walk-tickets-1983153235713?aff=oddtdtcreator
\*\*This is a Rain or Shine event. Please take a good lunch or bring along some snacks if you feel hungry along the way. Our walks are usually between 8 - 12 km long. Just so you know, the weather may be hot but as the sun sets, the weather should be cooler.
Please be punctual. You are encouraged to be slightly early to avoid disappointments. There will be 5 minutes grace for attendance taking. Please remember that we cannot wait because this would be unfair to those already present.
This Meetup group is a community-led group by volunteers. Please extend grace in areas of inadequacy. You are most welcome to give constructive feedback; we strive for improvement!
Upper Seletar Reservoir was formerly known as the *Seletar Reservoir*, before the completion of the [Lower Seletar Reservoir](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lower_Seletar_Reservoir) near [Nee Soon](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yishun), formed by the [damming](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dam) up of the [mouth](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_mouth) of Seletar River, in 1986. The Seletar Reservoir was built to meet the surge in water demand after [World War I](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_I). Built while [D. J. Murnane](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D._J._Murnane) was Municipal Water Engineer, a contemporary description of the project scope and construction in 1939 is included in the footnote.[\[1\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upper_Seletar_Reservoir#cite_note-1) The construction work was overseen by Murnane's deputy F. G. Hill. It was completed in 1940 and officially opened on 10 August 1969 by [Princess Alexandra](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princess_Alexandra,_The_Honourable_Lady_Ogilvy).
Lower Seletar Reservoir was constructed under the Sungei Seletar/[Bedok](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedok) Water Scheme, completed in 1986. The scheme involved the [damming of Sungei Seletar](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yishun_Dam) to form Lower Seletar Reservoir, the creation of [Bedok Reservoir](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedok_Reservoir) from a former sand [quarry](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quarry) and the construction of Bedok Waterworks. Its unique feature was the construction of nine stormwater collection stations to tap the storm [runoffs](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surface_runoff) of the surrounding urbanised catchments. Eight of these collection stations are ponds at [Yishun](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yishun), [Tampines](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tampines), [Bedok](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedok) and Yan Kit.
Join us as we explore the Seletar Reservoirs! There's captivating greenery, Instagram-worthy pictures, and a "Rocket Tower" to be explored!
The most eye-catching feature at Upper Seletar Reservoir Park is its futuristic lookout tower. This was built in 1969, the same year that astronauts from the NASA’s Apollo 11 space mission landed on the moon’s lunar surface. It was the age of exploration and space fever was gripping the world.

Virtual Skating Weekly Challenge!
Hi Everyone,
With Covid19 happening, there is still a limited participants for group events of up to 8 pax happening, so this just to keep the virtual skating together going.
The Challenge is to skate as much as you can during this pandemic each week. And see how we rank on leaderboard of Strava. The ranking is arranged by most distances skated each week.
Do join us through on Strava App below:
Leaderboard updates on a weekly basis and resets every week (Mon to Sun)
Join us at https://www.strava.com/clubs/freewheelers_sg
(Kindly note that with specifically the Strava app, it is unable to cater for Inline skating option, so you will have list your tracking via run or ride for your ranking to show up in leaderboard. And this is the main challenge majority of skaters will be using.)
Feel feel to contact Janice on Meetup if you need help with the apps to join us on these virtual skating challenges. You can also ask Janice for link to join a telegram group where impromptu small group skating events are frequently organized if you are looking for skating buddies.
Special Note:
Heard feedback from some Iphone users that trouble getting apps FOC. All these apps should be free. Please make sure you download the FREE VERSION. And please download the app, before you join via Challenge Links as the Challenge Links lead Iphone users to paid versions I think.
Android Phones should be automatic directed to free version.

CBusData - Discover the Power of Window Functions
Window functions have nothing to do with the Windows operating system but provide a “window” to a result set when used in SQL queries. They are powerful, set-based methods to view data in unexpected ways. Window functions provide easy, set-based solutions to solve some common problems:
* Using running totals
* Performing operations in intervals
* Identifying data gaps and islands
* Performing aggregates without losing detail
Many people are confused by window functions and do not know how to use them properly. This session will explore window functions, how they work, and how to use them. Demonstrations with several examples will solidify how window functions can simplify queries and make them more powerful.

Data & Analytics Wednesday - Google Analytics Alternatives
**Google Analytics Alternatives**
Is it finally time to make the switch away from Google Analytics? Two-and-a-half years ago Jason Packer asked this question at Columbus Web Analytics Wednesday.
Since then: Google’s Universal Analytics has been sunset, we’ve changed our name to Columbus Data & Analytics Wednesday, and Jason has released two editions of his book “Google Analytics Alternatives”.
Fresh off the release of the 2nd edition of his book, we thought it was time to re-open this conversation. While people love to complain about it, GA’s market share has remained relatively constant (at least in the United States). Why is that? You won’t find any complaints about GA4 in this talk, but rather an overview of what’s currently available in the market and how to frame your decision-making process.
We’ll also be giving out some free copies of Jason’s book! So even if you’ve got a “GA4Lyfe” tattoo (no judgement), there’s free books to go with the free pizza and beer.
