Welcome to **I WRITE**, a gentle space for anyone who wants to write—quietly, freely, and without judgement. We are a Berlin community of writers who gather together weekly to write, talk and recharge after a long week. Some of us journal, some write novels, some do academic writing, many people come without a project in mind and see where the inspiration flow takes them. This is a space to simply show up and write, a safe place to be yourself and to release all your layers onto the paper. There’s no set topic, no feedback circle, and no pressure. Come along, grab a coffee, shut up, and write! We will do at least two sessions of each 45 minutes of writing and two breaks. We will start the first writing session at 11:15. **For space reasons, we are limited to a certain number of attendees, so please update your RSVP if you can't come**. We often have a large waiting list, and not updating your RSVP or not showing up if you do RSVP yes means that others miss out. We also ask that if you do change your RSVP, do it with reasonable notice. Thanks! We typically take over all of the cafe, but try to share tables if you can to allow space for other customers. For our February reading, let's go to Italy, back in time. *Il sentiero dei nidi di ragno*, in English The Path to the Nest of Spiders, is the first novel by Italian author **Italo Calvino**, published in 1947. It is set during **World War II** in a small coastal town in **Liguria, Italy**, at the height of the Italian Resistance against Nazi and fascist forces. The story is told largely through the experiences of a young boy named **Pin**, an orphan who lives with his older sister and is often excluded or mocked by the adults around him because of his sister’s relationships with German soldiers. Calvino presents this harsh historical period through Pin’s eyes, blending gritty reality with moments that feel almost surreal or dreamlike. His narrative combines neorealist sensibilities with poetic touches, making this both a historical portrayal of wartime Italy and a deeply human story of innocence, loss, and resilience. **About the author** Italo Calvino (1923–1985) was an Italian writer born in Cuba to Italian parents and raised in Italy. He took part in the Italian Resistance during World War II, an experience that deeply influenced his early work, including *Il sentiero dei nidi di ragno*. He began writing within the tradition of Italian neorealism but soon moved beyond it, developing a distinctive style marked by imagination, clarity, and intellectual playfulness. Over time, Calvino became known for blending realism with fantasy, allegory, and formal experimentation, as seen in works like *Invisible Cities* and *If on a winter’s night a traveler*. His writing often explores themes such as storytelling itself, the relationship between order and chaos, and the search for meaning in modern life. **🎬 Screenwriters' Meetup Invitation 🎬** This meetup is for anyone passionate about storytelling—whether you’re a screenwriter, filmmaker, producer, or someone with a great idea looking for the right collaborators. Whether you’re just starting out or deep into your screenplay, this is the perfect space to create, collaborate, and refine your work. We’re trying a new format for this session. The theme will be “Loneliness in a Connected World.” The session is structured in two parts. During the first hour, we’ll collectively explore the topic and gather as many perspectives, experiences, observations, and ideas as possible. In the second hour, we’ll use this material to shape a story framework, focusing on a basic three-act structure and clarifying the core elements of a potential narrative. What I ask from you is simple: before coming, take some time to reflect on the theme. What is your personal relationship to loneliness in a highly connected, digital world? How does it feel? What experiences—your own or those of people you know—come to mind? You don’t need to write anything down in advance. Just come with a clear point of view and a few thoughts you’ve already considered. The goal is shared thinking, not preparation or finished concepts.

The Mindful Artist's Way is suitable for anyone who wants to write — without pressure, comparison, or the need for perfection. For anyone who wants to discover their own voice or reconnect with it. This workshop series treats your writing as a mindful and relationship-oriented process. Each session is an invitation to dive deeper into your own perception, voice, and creativity — without pressure to perform, without comparison, without right or wrong. The focus is on writing as a mindful practice: slow, embodied, and connected. Instead of technique, performance, or optimization, it’s about perception, inner security, and the relationship to your own voice. Each workshop is self-contained and at the same time part of a larger journey. Step by step, you are invited to build trust: in yourself, in your writing, and in the creative process. The series is inspired by the mindful and artistic approaches of Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way, but follows its own path: gentle, individual, and realistic. The topic for March is "Our Bodies, Ourselves" Speak Easy: true stories, told live. The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect. The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Greetings writers! Come down and join your fellow wordsmiths for one hour of uninterrupted writing time in the upper level of the Market District Supermarket in Upper Arlington. The main entrance of the shopping center opens onto stairs/elevator leading up to the 2nd floor cafe section where we will have a table displaying a sign with the Shut Up & Write logo. Writing is largely a solitary craft. Practicing with others in a community setting may be the thing you need to fire your own routine. We’ll meet on Wednesday evenings, starting the clock at 6:30, following a brief period of introductions. This is solid writing time and all inclusive. Any project is acceptable, be it fiction, non -fiction, work or homework assignment. All is welcome and will remain private to you. The market boasts a Starbucks, a full service bar and various affordable food options. Parking is plentiful, free Wifi is provided as well as outlets for charging your devices, though they are somewhat limited, so plan accordingly. Show up as early as you like, or stay late. This group tends to socialize some, both before and after the alloted time, but this is not mandatory to you. Feel free to come and go as you please and late arrivals are welcome. The cafe may be noisy on occasion so headphones/ earbuds are reccommended as you see fit. Please try to RSVP if possible so that we may grab enough seats for all—the venue can be busy at times.
