🏔️ Everest Update for the Veluwe Power Hikers We were preparing for a classic VPH high altitude expedition on top of the world. Unfortunately there is some disappointing news. Starting in 2026, Nepal is introducing strict new regulations for climbing Mount Everest. Climbers will now need to have previously summited a 7,000 meter peak in Nepal and must also submit mandatory health certificates. Because we cannot realistically summit a 7,000 meter peak and then climb Everest on the same day during our hike, I am unfortunately obliged to change the program. There is also another small complication. 1 April falls on a Wednesday, which makes organizing the expedition a bit difficult. After a poll in the WhatsApp group, we decided to move the date to **28 March** and climb the highest point of the Veluwe, **Signaal Imbosch (110 m)**. Even if it’s not Everest, don’t underestimate this hike: we will cover **22 km with about 350 metres of elevation gain** at a brisk pace. At this altitude, however, oxygen bottles are no longer recommended. I think that one role and/or purpose of philosophy is to help us deal with our daily lives and our "unique" times. So, let's share our feelings and thoughts about which philosopher/philosophy we turn to in order to deal with our crazy events. Who/what helps you stay focused in your daily life and helps you sleep at night. I find that Stoicism with a little philosophical pessimism mixed in goes a long way in helping me deal with what I see as very destructive, fearful and mean spirited public policies at both the state and federal levels. As a follow-up to our macro class and to get ready for our May and June Field Shoots, we are going to have a macro training "class." I will attempt to work through a number of macro shoots with the group. Those with cameras can try to shoot the same subjects I am shooting. We will start with some small objects and work our way down to smaller and smaller ones. As we photograph each subject, we will consider depth of field, focal plane management, subject composition, background, and lighting. I have no idea how many subjects we will get through, but we will give it our best shot (pun intended!). Bring your camera, whatever macro gear you might have, a tripod if you have one, whatever lighting you may have, etc. This will really be an exercise in seeing what you have, me showing you some ways to approach the subjects, and seeing what works!
