🏔️ Everest Update for the Veluwe Power Hikers We were preparing for a classic VPH high altitude expedition on top of the world. Unfortunately there is some disappointing news. Starting in 2026, Nepal is introducing strict new regulations for climbing Mount Everest. Climbers will now need to have previously summited a 7,000 meter peak in Nepal and must also submit mandatory health certificates. Because we cannot realistically summit a 7,000 meter peak and then climb Everest on the same day during our hike, I am unfortunately obliged to change the program. There is also another small complication. 1 April falls on a Wednesday, which makes organizing the expedition a bit difficult. After a poll in the WhatsApp group, we decided to move the date to **28 March** and climb the highest point of the Veluwe, **Signaal Imbosch (110 m)**. Even if it’s not Everest, don’t underestimate this hike: we will cover **22 km with about 350 metres of elevation gain** at a brisk pace. At this altitude, however, oxygen bottles are no longer recommended. And when we talk about Romans in the Netherlands, there is one unavoidable place to go: **Nijmegen**, the oldest city in the country, founded by the Romans as **Noviomagus**. We’ll start from the other side of the river Waal and walk towards the historic city centre, combining **river landscapes, green parks and urban history**. Along the way we’ll explore how the Romans conquered large parts of what is now the Netherlands, built forts and military camps along the Rhine (the *limes*), and established their first real city here. Come and join us for an evening of Buddhist meditation with like-minded people. The doors open at 7:00 PM, and meditation begins promptly at 7:15 PM. The meditation will last between 30 to 40 minutes, followed by tea and biscuits for anyone who would like to stay and chat. The topic for April is "Water" Speak Easy: true stories, told live. The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect.
