**Dear Group Elements,**
(Yes — *like elements of a mathematical group* 🧮🙂)
Let's attend this fascinating (and informative!) talk on
**“SMILE: Revealing the Invisible — Exploring Earth's Magnetosphere in X-rays”** by Dimitra Koutroumpa (LATMOS-OVSQ)
🌌🌌
🔄 ***This event replaces a previously announced session scheduled for the 7th April, titled ‘Exploring the nature of dark energy with the DESI project’, which has been postponed to 5 May (registration opens on 8 April)***
**Description:**
🌞 Space weather studies Earth's space environment, particularly the interactions between the Sun and our planet. At the heart of this system, the magnetosphere — a natural magnetic shield — protects us from charged particles emitted by the Sun (the solar wind), which are generally kept at bay by a boundary called the magnetopause.
🛰️ However, under certain conditions, the Sun's and Earth's magnetic fields can interconnect, creating gaps in the magnetopause. These openings allow energetic solar particles to penetrate our space environment. The intensity and frequency of these magnetic reconnection events vary with solar activity. During activity peaks, solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs) can trigger major disruptions such as geomagnetic storms, polar auroras, but also satellite malfunctions, radio blackouts, and even power outages.
🔭 To better understand and anticipate these phenomena, the SMILE mission (Solar Wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer), planned for launch in April 2026, will use innovative X-ray imaging technology. Its goal: to globally observe the magnetosphere and its evolution in response to solar wind variations, in order to improve our understanding of space weather and its impacts on daily life.

**Une dégustation de ce vin autour de quelques mezzés vous sera offerte.**
Ideal love and practical women: The Merry Wives of Windsor: (Discussion)
Dear members,
I hope that you will join us in closing the year with two comedies very much in keeping with the sonnets’ renunciation of ideal love!
Indeed, idealized love and the practicalities of romance are heavily contrasted in Shakespeare’s *The Merry Wives of Windsor* (April) and The Two Gentlemen of Verona (May). In very different ways, both **plays challenge romantic posturing and expose the distance between lofty declarations of love and the actual conduct of men.**
In *The Merry Wives of Windsor*, Shakespeare forces romance into the comedic rooms of everyday life, where the intelligence, wit, and the common sense of **women cut through male fantasy and self-importance**.
Maryama Antoine
**About the Play:**
*The Merry Wives of Windsor* or **Sir John Falstaff and the Merry Wives of Windsor i**s a comedy by William Shakespeare first published in 1602, though believed to have been written in or before 1597.
The Windsor of the play's title is a reference to the town of Windsor, also the **location of Windsor Castle in Berkshire,** England. Though nominally set in the reign of Henry IV or early in the reign of Henry V, the play makes no pretence to exist outside contemporary Elizabethan-era English middle-class life. It features the character Sir John Falstaff, the fat knight who had previously been featured in Henry IV, Part 1 and Part 2. It has been **adapted for the opera at least ten times.**
The play is one of Shakespeare's lesser-regarded works among literary critics. **Tradition has it that *The Merry Wives of Windsor* was written at the request of Queen Elizabeth I, who watching Henry IV, Part 1, is said to have asked Shakespeare to write a play depicting Falstaff in love.**
**The Plot:**
Falstaff arrives in Windsor very short of money. He decides that, to obtain financial advantage, he will court two wealthy married women, Mistress Ford and Mistress Page. Falstaff decides to send the women identical love letters and asks his servants – Pistol and Nym – to deliver them to the wives. When they refuse, Falstaff sacks them, and, in revenge, the men tell the husbands Ford and Page of Falstaff's intentions.
Page is not concerned, but the jealous Ford persuades the Host of the Garter Inn to introduce him to Falstaff as a 'Master Brook' so that he can find out Falstaff's plans. Meanwhile, three different men are trying to win the hand of Page's daughter, Anne Page. Mistress Page would like her daughter to marry Doctor Caius, a French physician, whereas the girl's father would like her to marry Master Slender. Anne herself is in love with Master Fenton, but Page had previously rejected Fenton as a suitor due to his having squandered his considerable fortune on high-class living. Hugh Evans, a Welsh parson, tries to enlist the help of Mistress Quickly (servant to Doctor Caius) in wooing Anne for Slender, but the doctor discovers this and challenges Evans to a duel.
The Host of the Garter Inn prevents this duel by telling each man a different meeting place, causing much amusement for himself, Justice Shallow, Page and others. Evans and Caius decide to work together to be revenged on the Host...
**Sources:**
Some elements of *The Merry Wives of Windsor* may have been **adapted from Il Pecorone, a collection of stories by Ser Giovanni Fiorentino**; one of these stories was included in **William Painter's** **The Palace of Pleasure.**

Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for April is "Water"
Speak Easy: true stories, told live.
The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast.
Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect.
The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
Sunday Brunch
Sleep in on Sundays. When you've had your fill of pajama-time, roll out and have some tasty brunch with your fellow Humanists!
Humanist Program
The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event.
We will be hearing from Becca Powell, Director of Advocacy and Outreach at Unchained At Last, an organization whose mission is dedication to ending forced and child marriage in the United States through direct services and systems change. Unchained At Last's mission clearly meshes and addresses several of our Humanist Ten Commitments. Becca will educate us about an issue many of us may not be familiar with--but should be.
Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk.
Going forward our meetings will be hybrid. You can meet us in-person or attend online

Saturday Mornings @ East Market
Let's grab some coffee/food and share a morning chat! The East Market has an ample parking lot and outdoor and indoor seating.
Grab a cup of coffee from Winston's Coffee & Waffles or on your way to East Market and meet us on the second floor - table behind or east of the elevator.
Per what this group is about: "Everyone is welcome! International transplants to Columbus who want to improve language skills, Columbus residents who want to discuss international travel and culture, and anyone who enjoys getting together for good conversations."
Raising Conscious Kids – A Unity Family Experience
At Unity of Columbus, our Youth and Family Ministry nurtures the spiritual growth of children and families through love, joy, and practical spiritual teachings. Each Sunday, children explore timeless spiritual principles through stories, creative activities, music, and group sharing in a safe and welcoming environment.
Our program encourages children to discover their own inner light, express kindness, and develop a personal connection with God. Together, we celebrate diversity, cultivate understanding, and inspire each child to live with purpose and compassion. Parents and families are invited to join in this uplifting journey of learning, laughter, and spiritual connection.
Pot Luck in the Park!
Inspired by our successful events like "Saturday Mornings @ East Market" and other "Pot Luck in the Park" lunches, this gathering promises to be a blend of fun conversations, language exchange, and cultural insights, all while sharing wonderful foods with each other.
Please bring a dish to share and anything you would like to drink.
We will provide plates, plastic silverware and napkins.
So, come hungry and ready to chat!
Note: Since the weather is unpredictable in April, we have a couple of places in mind for the Pot Luck. We have reserved a room in the Dublin Library from 1-2:30 PM for the meal, if necessary. \* But if the weather is nice on April 12th, we are planning to meet in Bridge Park, possibly in the covered shelter area at 12:00 Noon. We will update the details closer to the date of the Pot Luck but wanted to get this out to everyone so that you can make plans for that day.
Columbus: A Study In Psalms--Psalm 5 and 6
No person who seeks *true* justice can do so for long without recognizing the necessity of regular, close looks in the mirror. It has been said that the sins we hate most strongly in others are often ones with which we ourselves struggle. If one is not careful, our zeal to see wrongs righted can cause blind spots in our own lives.
David knew this intimately. While literally on the run for his life from his enemies, he did not hesitate to call out the sins and wrongdoings of those evildoers, asking God to vindicate him, and to judge the wicked; and yet on multiple occasions, most famously in the adultery against and murder of one of his own friends, David had to reckon with the fact that he, himself, was the one who did evil, sinning against God and man.
The only hope for David and the only hope for every human is the perfect justice, mercy, and grace that are found in the Lord, the One, as David later would write, "Who forgives your sins, Who heals your diseases, Who redeems your life from the pit..." \~Psalm 103.
