Hi everyone! (pre-pandemic information) If you like to play modern board, card and dice games, and to meet new people, then join us every Wednesday evening, for as long as you like between the hours of 6pm and 11pm (when the pub closes). Feel free to bring your own games if you have them, but don't worry if you don't as there are plenty that live at the pub, and plenty more that regular members bring along. And of course, we'll teach you how to play them if you don't know already. You work late? No worries - you can come along any time before closing (11pm), so if you don't arrive at 7pm (when attendees trickle in), don't worry! Everyone comes and goes whenever they like, so it is possible that you may be the first to arrive or last to leave. Please write in the comments what time you expect to arrive at the pub, so we can try to avoid anyone having to wait alone for long. We are a relaxed and friendly group, made up of both natives and foreigners, of locals and those living further afield, happy to welcome newbies and regulars. Events are free to attend, but it is respectable to the public venues we hold them at if you can buy at least one drink or some food while you are present. Then join our Badminton Coaching session, improve your games and have more fun playing! **When** Thursdays, 7- 9 pm 02 July – 20 August weekly for 8 weeks **What you will learn** This course is designed to provide a good understanding of the basics of the game, to provide a solid foundation on which to build and improve skills and techniques. The course will cover: * Basics: Equipment, shoes, court layout, scoring * Grips, Opening Positions * Movement at net * Backhand low serve * Return of serve: net & clearance * Backhand flick/high serve * Overhead clearance shot * Forehand low serve * Forehand flick serve * Doubles movement & positioning **Details** * Each session will entail 60 mins of coaching and 60 mins of practice/play time. * The 1st 60 minutes will be coaching in a dedicated court. * The remaining 60 minutes will be play time so you can practice what you’ve learnt. You will play with the rest of the club as in our normal session. * Signing up for this event will sign you up for the full 8-session course. **Meet your coach** Islam is one of the organisers of the club and a qualified Level 2 Badminton coach. He started playing badminton in school. But when he started playing with friends at university, he found that they were all much better than him. He decided to take some lessons, learned the basics and it improved his games dramatically. He enjoyed the improvement so much that he decided he wanted to help others do the same. Islam has been coaching for over 14 years, specialising in coaching beginners in doubles/mixed doubles.

We playtest all sorts of tabletop games - strategic, silly, creative, or whatever (but not video games). Some games are almost done. Some are very early ideas. We test anything that will fit into 90 minutes. You don't need to bring a game - we always love to have new playtesters! Please let us know in the comments when you plan to arrive/leave and whether you are bringing a game or not. This helps us to plan the day better. The schedule is: 10am onwards - gathering, chatting 11am sharp - playing for 90 min ('slot 1') 12:30ish - break for food/chat 1pm sharp - playing for 90 min ('slot 2') 2:30ish - break for food/chat 3pm sharp - playing for 90 min ('slot 3') 4:30ish - finish up Often, we might hang around afterwards, to play some already-published games. We are strict on timings, so please try to arrive a few minutes before the session to limit disruption. You can just come for part of the day if you wish. The reason we have fixed timings for the 3 'slots' is to make it easier for folk to do so. Designers of all levels of experience are welcome! But if it's your first time, we ask that you don't bring a game and just spend some time learning how the group works. The group works based on reciprocation. If you expect to test your own game, make sure stay for long enough to play other games. As a general rule of thumb, you can expect to play one of your own games every third 90-minute session. So if you stay a whole day (3 sessions), you can expect to have one session to play your game(s). A good rule of thumb is that if you come all day, you will have one 90 minute session with two other playtesters in which to test your own games. It is sometimes possible to test games with more players. If your game requires 4 or more, please note that as standard you will be allocated half of a session (45 minutes). Hi everyone! Booking is now open for our next badminton session, 11am-1pm on Sunday at Ark All Saints Camberwell 140 Wyndham Road SE5 0UB. The cost is only £12 per person plus £1.62 Meetup booking fee, paid in advance before the start of the session. Bring your racket or lease one for the session for a nominal £2.00, shuttlecocks is provided. The lease rackets are available at the venue, so just make your way down. Please note we don't have enough for everybody just a few. If you damage your racket during the session you get one to use for free. So if you wish to play and don’t yet have a racket make your way down, try and have a couple of nuggets (£2.00) handy because the racket lease fee is not included with the session booking fee. Payment is by PayPal, Debit card, Credit card, Bank transfer, and Cash. Contact the host if you encounter any problem with making payment or wish to pay by other method (Payment by Bank transfer & Cash is £12.00) Direction: The badminton hall is situated at the rear of the school, read on for direction on how to locate the hall. The main entrance to the school is located on Wyndham road, on Wyndham road look for Toulon Street it is on the same side as the school. If you stand facing the school Toulon Street should be to your right. Toulon street lead on to Pitman Street which is where the entrance is located. Use the pedestrian gate to let yourself in, if it is locked use the intercom and somebody should let you in.
