Welcome to the Personal Growth BookClub Copenhagen! On the 4th July we will discuss the topic of **"Open When..."** Released in early 2025, it serves as the follow-up to her massive international bestseller, ***Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before?*** Main book **"Open When..." by** Dr. Julie Smith 15-minutes summary:[ https://youtu.be/2Kvn80QlsVo?si=dEKhENeXYSXUdECb ]( https://youtu.be/2Kvn80QlsVo?si=dEKhENeXYSXUdECb ) https://www.drjulie.uk/ What can you expect from the **meetup**? * A safe space to discuss about the topic * A short summary of the book by one of the members (Agnes will do it this time) * A not-so-strict moderated discussion based on the book * Sometimes, short participative activities to activate the discussion or reach common grounds and conclusions. \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- Changes from October 2025: 1. Let's meet and talk books
Let's meet and talk books
Hi everyone! Let's gather and share our reading. As usual, we will meet at the fourth floor of the Central Library as it has good facilities for book clubs and it is also free to use. No extra cafe money to spend. Idea is to meet and connect over books. Each participant present 1-2 books they would like to recommend or just talk about, and then we'll see where conversation leads us. Again, there is no limitation to genre or type of book you are reading. The point is that we are free to read whatever we want and then share those reading experiences, so remember to be respectful to each other. I hope to see as many of you as possible. :)
Death in Venice by Thomas Mann
Death in Venice by Thomas Mann
Thanks to everyone who joined for our discussion of Djuna Barnes’ *Nightwood*. As always, it was a pleasure to see both familiar and new faces, and I hope you all enjoyed the conversation. The next book to read is *[Death in Venice](https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/53061.Death_in_Venice)* (*Der Tod in Venedig*, 1912) by [Thomas Mann](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Mann). Set in the beautiful but decaying city of Venice, the novella follows Gustav von Aschenbach, a distinguished writer who travels south in search of rest and inspiration. There he becomes fascinated by a young Polish boy whose beauty gradually awakens emotions and obsessions that challenge his sense of order, discipline, and self-control. A short description of the book reads: One of the most celebrated works of twentieth-century literature, *Death in Venice* is a haunting exploration of beauty, desire, art, aging, and mortality. Combining psychological depth with rich symbolism, Thomas Mann’s novella remains one of the defining works of European modernism. You can read more about the book on Wikipedia [here](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_in_Venice), find it on Goodreads [here](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/53061.Death_in_Venice?from_search=true&from_srp=true&qid=7z83p9EOgb&rank=1), and listen to it as an audiobook on YouTube [here](https://youtu.be/f-JK5W99LVs?si=o8T2fgHe-Hn95sTe). There is also a famous [film adaptation](https://www.justwatch.com/dk/movie/death-in-venice) from 1971, directed by Luchino Visconti. The film won several international awards and is widely regarded as one of the finest literary adaptations ever made. It is particularly noted for its stunning cinematography, its use of music by Gustav Mahler, and its faithful recreation of the atmosphere of Mann’s novella. For other resources on how to get a hold of classic books, please see the [About](https://www.meetup.com/copenhagen-classic-book-book-club/) section on the front page of the group. Please note that I know we originally agreed to meet on Saturday, August 22nd. However, after doing a bit of research and realizing just how short *Death in Venice* actually is, essentially a novella—depending on the edition, it ranges from roughly 56 to 140 pages—I have decided to move the discussion forward to Saturday, July 4th instead. I hope everyone will still be able to make it. This way, we’ll also have plenty of time to choose and read another book during the summer. We meet up on **Saturday, July 4th, at 4 p.m.** The location will once again be the [Royal Library Garden](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Library_Garden,_Copenhagen). During the spring and summer months, we always meet outside here. If the weather turns rainy, we will simply move indoors. Please remember to bring your suggestion for the next classic book to read. Also, if you plan to attend, please remember to click “Attend” on Meetup. Likewise, if you know that you won’t be able to make it, it is very helpful if you update your RSVP accordingly. It makes it easier for everyone to get an idea of how many people to expect. And, as always, please be mindful and respectful of each other, so that everyone feels welcome and appreciated. In the meantime, happy reading/listening/watching — or however you prefer to do it.

We meet on Saturdays late mornings to have a casual, meaningful conversation on topics of interest to everyone chosen on the spot by majority voting. So please feel free to propose your own topic! Everyone is welcome to talk, but if you prefer to just join and listen, that is perfect too. As the contacted cafés usually only give reservations to eating guests, it is very welcome if you order something to eat during our stay. This is however not mandatory. This event is in English. The exact place can still change.

Data & Analytics Wednesday - Learning from Everyday Data
Data & Analytics Wednesday - Learning from Everyday Data
**Practical Curiosity: Learning from Everyday Data** How do we actually get better at utilizing our day-to-day data? Fancy dashboards and complex models might look nice and draw attention, but that’s not where most of us spend our time. In fact those shiny outputs frequently sit unused, while the real insights are drawn from the analyst’s daily practice. Sometimes it’s as simple and as powerful as noticing that a segment is shrinking, a channel is underused, or certain links keep getting all the clicks. There’s many different places that the spark of insight can come from, but you have to keep your head in the data and know where to look. In this session, we’ll explore real-world examples of how segmentation, testing, and click behavior can uncover practical digital marketing opportunities. You’ll leave with inspiration for your own use cases, along with a few simple ways to ask better questions, spot meaningful patterns, and make smarter decisions without overcomplicating it. **About Our Speaker:** [Elaine Armbruster](https://www.linkedin.com/in/elainearmbruster/) is a Director of Digital Experience at the [American Diabetes Association](https://diabetes.org/), where she focuses on using data and insights to create smarter, more effective digital experiences. A lifelong Columbus resident, she has built her career in email marketing and the broader digital user journey, and is finding she most enjoys working in the messy middle where systems, data, and big ideas don’t quite line up yet. Stop Guessing: How to Measure and Improve LLM Outputs
Stop Guessing: How to Measure and Improve LLM Outputs
Most people use LLMs by feel: ask a question, read the answer, decide whether it “seems good,” and move on. That works for casual use. It does not work when you are building software, automating workflows, writing important documents, or relying on AI for anything that needs to be repeatable. In this talk, we’ll look at how to improve and evaluate the inputs and outputs of LLMs using practical measurement techniques. We’ll cover how prompt changes affect results, how to compare outputs, how to build simple evaluation sets, and how math-based methods like similarity scoring can help you move beyond guesswork. This will be beginner-friendly, so even if you don't know anything about AI, you should get something out of it. However, this will be a little more technical than our intro talks. You do not need to be an AI researcher, but programmers and technically curious attendees will get a lot out of it. We’ll cover: * Why “it looks good” is not enough * How to improve prompts by changing the input, context, and constraints * How to compare LLM outputs more systematically * Basic evaluation techniques for accuracy, consistency, and usefulness * How embeddings, cosine similarity, and scoring can help evaluate results * Where automated evaluation works — and where humans still need to stay in the loop By the end, you’ll have a practical mental model for treating LLMs less like magic and more like systems you can test, measure, and improve. LOGISTICS AND PARKING: The talk starts at 7:00 PM. The first half hour is reserved for everyone to get set up and mingle. Free pizza and drinks! The cheapest parking option is to find street parking, which will only cost you a few bucks. Otherwise, park in the nearby veteran's museum lot for $8. It's highly recommended you avoid the nearby $15 garage parking.
