Datadog Dublin Meetup #1
Join us for the very first meetup of the Datadog Dublin User Group, with networking and talks from experienced practitioners!
**🏠 18:00 - Arrival: Networking, Drinks & Snacks (40 min.)**
Meet and greet your peers, grab food and drink
**📆 18:40 - Introduction**
**🎙️ Speaker:** Anatoly Mikhaylov, Principal Engineer at Zendesk, Datadog Ambassador
**Description:** User group kick off followed by very successful customer story. Anatoly will share real life examples how Datadog supports Zendesk. He will share how valuable Datadog is to support multi-billion enterprise for over a decade, how it evolved and what problems it helps to solve. From an observability tool it became incident detection and prevention tool, database reliability powerhouse and it helped to shape how we deploy changes to production with confidence.
**📆 19:00 - Powering Platform Engineering through Datadog**
**🎙️ Speaker:** Marcel Drechsler, Product Owner @ andsafe
**Description:** In the rapidly changing landscape of Platform Engineering, Datadog has evolved from a monitoring tool into a comprehensive foundation for Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs). This session explores the journey of scaling observability and security into a unified platform strategy that reduces developer friction. We will dive into how Datadog’s expanding ecosystem provides the essential building blocks for modern self-service infrastructure. Attendees will learn how to leverage these integrated features to build a more resilient and transparent developer experience. Discover how to transform your Datadog instance into a strategic asset for your platform’s success.
**📆 19:40 - Pay for What You Use, Use What You Pay For: Frugal Architecture with Datadog Cloud Costs**
**🎙️ Speaker:** Apostolis Apostolidis, Lead Archirect @ Flipdish, Datadog Ambassador
**Description:**
We've all seen that Slack message. Someone senior forwards the monthly cloud bill with a single line: "Can someone take a look at this? Why has it spiked so much?" Nobody knows. Even worse, nobody owns it. And that's exactly the issue.
At Flipdish, we fixed that by bringing cloud and SaaS cost data into Datadog: the same tool our engineers already use for logs, metrics and traces. Now spend wasn't a finance report. It was a dashboard any engineer could pull up, attribute to a service, and act on like any other signal.
In this talk, I'll share what we found when we actually looked, how we embed cost awareness into architecture reviews and incident response, and why AI workloads are making this discipline urgent, where a single runaway prompt can spike your bill overnight in a way no latency alert would catch. If you can alert on a p99 spike, you can alert on a cost spike. Same signal. Different dimension.
**📆 20:20 - To be announced**
**🎙️ Speaker: To be announced**
**Description: To be announced**
Visualisation Techniques and Approaches
**Speaker:** Richard Morrisroe
This talk covers visualisation techniques and approaches, with a focus on Irish property sales data.
We'll cover:
\- assumptions of visualisation
\- assumptions of statistical graphics
\- understanding data with visualisation
\- how to communicate with stakeholders using visualisation\.

3-4km Run and Beers
A month into spring already, summer may be just around the corner, and for those that have the Dublin Marathon on their dance card later this year, thoughts must be switching to the Training Plans. For the rest of us, not that we don't welcome marathon buds, we still want to enjoy a leisurely run with friends on a wednesday evening, followed by a few beers and chat with fellow travellers.
This week, whether you are a future marathoner, or simply want a little bit of exercise, (we only run around 4kM,) and to meet new friends, we will be running to **Murphy's Pub in Rathmines.** so come along and enjoy the craic
For newcomers, our Group Runs are great fun, safe for all, and once the run is complete, we can share a beer, have a good chat, make new friends, and look forward to the following week.
The route map is here - https://www.mappedometer.com/?maproute=921064
Regards,
Liam
After Work Wednesday's!
Get over the mid week slump and come down to meet some new faces and relax. We try and go to a different bar every week and you can join us anytime after 18:30.
**How to find the group?**
\*We have an area reserved just for us so if you are new and unsure please ask any of the bar staff for the area reserved under the organisers name or if completely lost on the night please contact the event host and they'll come and find you.
**How does it work?**
\*After finding the group either the organiser will approach you and ask if you are looking for the meetup or you can just ask anyone "Is this the meetup?" and normally that is a great conversation opener to join the group. After that it's up to you what you make of the event. That is pretty much it. Easy right? We normally encourage people to stand as it's much easier to mingle that way.
**Nervous about coming to the event?**
\*While it's quite intimidating meeting a bunch of strangers from the internet we are a very welcoming group. We normally look out for new people and remember that everyone in the group has been new in the group at one point. If are you'd like extra help just contact the event host on the night.
**Interested in helping out?**
\*Let me (Éamonn) know as it would be greatly appreciated.
**Something happened?**
\*Please report it to the organiser as we cannot do anything to prevent it from happening again if we don't know about it. Even if it's something small please let the organiser know as they are probably unaware.
We aim to have the location up by Monday afternoon before the event. The bars we go to are all based in the city centre.
**See you on Wednesday!**

The Jam: The Circle Session ⭕️
**The Heart of the Circle** ❤️ The Circle Session is where the art breathes. It is a dedicated space for songwriters 🎸, poets 📖, comedians 🎤, and storytellers 🗣️ to find their ground, test their craft, and connect.
**We all sit in a circle**, removing the barrier between "performer" and "audience". It is a collaborative laboratory 🧪 where a new chord progression might meet a spoken-word verse, or a storyteller finds the perfect rhythm.
**Practice. Share. Connect.** ✨ This is a **safe space for all levels**. Whether you are a seasoned pro or sharing your work for the first time, you are among peers. We focus on:
* **The Craft:** A low-pressure room to test rough drafts and "work out" new material. 🛠️

* **Join the Beat:** We provide **shakers** 🪇 for those who want to join the rhythm and feel the vibe!
* **The Social:** We don't just stay in the room. We **organise** regular **social nights out** 🍻 for all attendees, so the friendships made in the circle continue outside of it! 🕺
**Technical Setup** ⚡️ We provide the essentials so you can focus on the performance:
* **PA System:** 3 channels available if a plug-in is required.
* **Mics & Gear:** Microphones, cables, and a sheet stand with a light provided. 🎼
* **Keyboards:** A keyboard can be set up for the evening—just please **ask in advance!** 🎹

Tutorial 10 – NLP - Named-Entity-Recognition with Hugging Face & PyTorch
My name is Aurelie and I'm graduating with an MSc in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Limerick.
I run monthly **machine learning** and **deep learning** tutorials in Dublin with a small group of people.
In this tutorial, we will fine‑tune a **Named Entity Recognition (NER)** model using a **Hugging Face** pretrained model and **PyTorch**, following the structure of a **Hugging Face** tutorial. We will use an **NER** dataset from **Hugging Face**, walk through data preprocessing—including **tokenization**—fine‑tune the model, evaluate its performance, and finally run inference on a new, unseen text sample that was not part of the training set. You will receive a Jupyter notebook with clean, reusable code covering every step. No setup required beyond a laptop and a Google account to run everything in Google Colab.
**The tutorials are limited to 15 participants and you can reserve your spot either here or by emailing aureliem219@gmail.com. Please make sure to book as soon as possible, as the registration count on Meetup does not guarantee availability.**
This tutorial take place at the **Grafton Hotel, 32 Stephen Street Lower, Dublin 2** (We will be sitting in the lobby in the corner or on the right handside). It will run from **3 pm** to **4 pm**.
**Grafton Hotel, 32 Stephen Street Lower, Dublin 2**
* The tutorials are a high-level practical introduction to machine learning and deep learning and the emphasis on understanding how we process the data , train and evaluate a model with Python. We won't cover the mathematics behind it however some tutorials may have mathematical formulas as part of the algorithm explanation and some tutorials might have more complex data preprocessing as it depends on the datasets and the task we are doing. However the tutorials focus on the practical part!
* *Payments need to be made in advance to secure your place and fees are non-refundable unless I need to cancel the event, in this case refunds will be made.*

*Sold out* The House Must Win matinée - musical (Pavillion, Dun Laoghaire)
**Written by Mick Flannery, *The House Must Win* is a gritty new musical drama** **that sweeps audiences into the emotional undertow of its story and song.**
Please secure your own ticket for Sunday afternoon matinee performance. Welcome to include your seat number in the comments for others to purchase adjacent seats: I'm in seat D5.
Legendary Irish comedian, actor and broadcaster **Tommy Tiernan** will make his musical theatre debut in the role of Ray, while rising Belfast actor and singer-songwriter **Tabitha Smyth** will play Grace, Ray’s daughter. They will feature as part of a sterling ensemble cast of seven alongside **Ferdia Walsh-Peelo** (*Sing Street*), **Niall McNamee** (*Saipan*), **John McCarthy**, **Orlagh De Bhaldraithe** and **Damian Kearney**.
Directed by **Julie Kelleher**, with **Liam Robinson** (*Hadestown*) as Music Supervisor and **Ciarán Bagnall** on Set and Lighting Design, the creative team has worked closely with Mick over the past three years, shaping the world he has envisioned through this new script and its twenty-one songs.
Set on the western edge of Ireland in the 1970s, it follows two brothers living with the odds stacked against them. Each takes a different path in the hope of leading a “good” life, both trying to honour the woman who holds their hearts. In a town of backroom poker games, secrets and bribes, broken families and broken hearts, the people of this place must learn how to play the cards they’ve been dealt – and discover what it truly means when *the house must win.*
Twenty years ago, Mick Flannery released his debut album *Evening Train*, originally written in response to a college assignment to “write a musical.” Mick did exactly that, though at the time he focused solely on the lyrics and music. Two decades later, following various iterations and workshop developments, he has now written the script for the first time, bringing to life the songs from that debut album alongside ten new compositions to create *The House Must Win*.

**Abstract**
GitHub Copilot is powerful, but what if you could scale from a solo AI assistant to an entire team of specialized agents working in parallel? This session introduces Squad: an open-source framework for multi-agent orchestration that lets you define teams of AI agents with specific roles, responsibilities, and expertise.
We'll progress from Copilot basics to the Copilot CLI, explore how Agents add autonomy, and see how Instructions and Skills let you customize agent behavior. Then, the climax: a live demo where a Squad team of 3 agents (Lead, Developer, Tester) stands up and builds a working application in real-time, showcasing true multi-agent collaboration.
Whether you're new to AI or exploring how to scale your use of Copilot, this session will show you what's possible when agents work as a team.

Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for May is "Ink"
Speak Easy: true stories, told live.
The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast.
Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect.
The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
