POTA on Easter Monday from Ticknock
Join us on **Easter Monday, 6 April**, for a **Parks on the Air (POTA)** outing from **Ticknock** in the Dublin Mountains.
If you have not come across POTA before, it is all about bringing amateur radio into the great outdoors, setting up in a qualifying park, and making contacts from the field. We did a quieter test run on Bull Island recently and it went well, so this time we are opening it up to the wider **TOG community and the public**.
We will meet at **10:30am** at the **Ticknock café** and then head off to find a good place to set up and operate. We expect to be on air for around **two hours**.
You are very welcome to come along, help out, and even have a go on the radio using the **club callsign EI0TOG**. Jeffrey Roe, **EI7IRB**, will be leading the activation.
Jeffrey is planning to cycle out, but there is parking nearby too. If radio is not really your thing, or you do not want to stay for the whole activation, Ticknock has plenty of walks so you can still join us for part of the outing.
After the POTA activation, there are also IRTS 2m and 70cm contests running, so anyone who wants to keep the radio fun going is welcome to do that too.
As always, this one is weather dependent. If the conditions are awful, we will give it a miss rather than spend another Monday getting soaked.
Read the full details here: https://www.tog.ie/2026/04/pota-on-easter-monday-from-ticknock/
We hope to see some of you there in person, or hear from you on the bands.

Newbridge House Social Walk & Coffee
Planning a relaxed Saturday walk from Donabate into Newbridge Demesne, followed by a coffee and a chat in the café. If people are up for it afterwards, we can head back into Donabate village for an optional pint.
This is just an easy, social walk - nothing intense, just a good way to get out, stretch the legs and meet a few new people.
**Meeting options (pick one):**
Public transport:
Meet outside Donabate Train Station (main entrance) at 14:30 sharp.
We’ll leave from there and walk together.
Driving:
Head straight to Newbridge House & Farm car park and be there for around 14:55–15:00.
We’ll walk through the park and meet you there before continuing.
**If you’re driving, send a quick message in advance so we know to come and collect you.**
**Getting there**
Train
Balbriggan 14:00
Skerries 14:05
Rush & Lusk 14:10
Arrives Donabate 14:20
Bus:
33 / 33A / 33B all go to Donabate
Get off at stops 3590 or 3591 (right by the station)
Just make sure you’re getting off near Donabate village - not Portrane.
**The plan**
We’ll leave the station at 14:30 and head across the pedestrian bridge. It’s about 8 minutes to the Donabate gate entrance, then another 15 minutes through the park to the car park where we’ll meet anyone driving.
After that, we’ll do a relaxed loop around the grounds for about an hour, then stop off for coffee and a chat.
If you’re running late, just head straight to the car park and we’ll catch up there.

Before Sunrise
Hi all,
I’m setting up Richard Linklaters much admired ‘*Before*’ triology over three sucessive Sundays this April
beginning with **Before Sunrise** for **Sunday April 12th at 4pm.**
I’ve never seen this triology but have heard great things about it.
One of cinema’s great love stories begins on a train from Budapest to Paris, when chance sees Parisienne Céline (Julie Delpy) sit across from American tourist Jesse (Ethan Hawke).
The two begin a conversation, and the chemistry is so immediate that she agrees to disembark with him in Vienna and keep him company before his flight the following morning.
The two wander around the city at night, always talking, sharing confidences and truths until dawn breaks and threatens their connection.
Screening is taking place in screen 1 and early booking is advised.
I’ll be in the foyer from 3.30pm with my purple baseball hat.
See you all there,
Martin
