Is there no alternative to capitalism?
**Please note that we invite people through different channels, so there are more attendees than you can see here :)**
What do we think about capitalism in 2026? Do we see it as the only system that has ever worked â or as the root cause of all our problems?
And letâs dare to think beyond the current system: What might a good and realistic system look like in the future? Would it be capitalism with some adjustments or a totally different system?
In this discussion, weâll quickly look at some of the most prominent perspectives on capitalism â and then discuss what realistic and desirable alternatives might look like.
This event is part of the series The Discussion Experiment in which we try out new methods for more focused and meaningful discussions.
This time weâre guests at the SchĂśneberg Central Library. Find out more in the FAQ below and join us!
**This is a free event.**

**FAQ**
***What can I expect from this event?***
Each event is an experiment, so itâs hard to predict exactly how it will unfold or feel.
We aim to create a relaxed and thought-provoking atmosphere in which we explore various aspects and perspectives of the topic together.
At the start of the discussion, weâll introduce some special rules designed to make the conversation slower, but also more focused and clear.
***Who is this event for?***
This event is for anyone who is interested in the topic and/or the concept.
We want to create a space where people of all ages, identities and backgrounds feel welcome.
You donât need to prepare anything, have strong opinions, or be extroverted to participate.
***Do I need to actively participate, or can I just listen?***
Itâs completely fine to just listen. You can decide for yourself at any time how active you want to be, and apart from a brief round of introductions, you wonât be asked to say anything.
There may however be small group phases â short sections where all participants discuss in groups of 2â3 people. Youâre not required to take part in these and can use the time for a break instead.
***How long does the event last?***
The event lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours.
***Is the venue wheelchair accessible?***
Yes. This event takes place at the SchĂśneberg Central Library, which is wheelchair accessible.
Unfortunately this isnât always the case, as we host events at various locations. We therefore recommend always checking the FAQs before attending.
***What is the "Discussion Experiment"?***
The Discussion Experiment is an ongoing event series in which we continuously test methods that enable meaningful and inspiring group conversations.
Among other things, we experiment with techniques that slow down discussions, promote clarity and help participants feel better heard.
This event is one of four discussions weâre hosting at the SchĂśneberg Central Library. All events are free and open to everyone â we warmly invite you to join us.

The Minority Report
The Minority Report is a weekly stand-up comedy show about identity, culture, and the expat experience.
Are you a minority in Europe? Did something weird, awkward, or low-key offensive happen to you this week?
This is the space to vent your feelings about it.
Every week, comedians Bryan Lee and Moe Singleton take the stage to unpack life as outsiders, offering their unique commentary on topics like race, masculinity, relationships, and life between cultures.
Add weekly special guest comedians and âquestion timeâ with the audience, and youâve got Berlinâs most unhinged comedy experience.

Queer Filmmakers Club - Pitching and Networking Edition
PITCHING AND NETWORKING EDITION, WEDNESDAY MAY 6, 6PM
Barely any art form is as collaborative as filmmaking. And many queer filmmakers know what it feels like to create within teams where heteronormative perspectives dominate â where queer ideas are softened, sidelined, or reduced to âniche.â We want to shift that. This is a space for queer filmmakers to come together â to connect, exchange knowledge and resources, and build a network rooted in queer perspectives and storytelling.
Our monthly PITCHING AND NETWORKING EDITION is specifically designed for us to gather around great ideas and take the first steps to make them come to life. Bring your feature film, short film, documentary, series, art project, etc idea - in whatever stage of development - throw your presentation on our screen and use your 5 minutes in front of the crowd to sell it. Who knows? You might end the night with the full film crew you have been looking for!
If you donât have a project of your own in the pipeline but still would like to get something done, this is a great opportunity for you as well. Whether youâre directing, writing, shooting, editing, producing, acting or just starting out: youâre welcome to join the crowd, pepper the presenting folks with curious questions and possibly join a film crew.
Please drop us a message if youâd like to pitch a project. Spots are limited, so better be fast.
Letâs build the teams we have been missing!

To Our Friends ("Merry Crisis and Happy New Fear")
Apologies everyone for the completely skipped date on Easter! The emails from MeetUp were going straight to spam, so I was convinced there was no interest.
For those of you still interested, I would suggest that Sunday, May 10 would be a good replacement date to kick things off. Content-wise, the event would stay the same.
Meeting place would be the Schoenbrunn Biergarten Kiosk in Volkspark Friedrichshain. This would also be the first opportunity to discuss alternative times and locations.
\-\-\-
The first chapter of To Our Friends! A great intro to the style of writing and the fast and furious manner of argumentation from the radical theory collective.

Filmmakers & Movie Nerds Meetup #177
Curious what we do? Check our [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/filmmakersandmovienerds/) âĽď¸
Would you like to meet some like-minded filmmakers? Start a project? Or do you need help with a movie you are currently working on? Are you new in the city and you'd like to meet people tinkering with movies?
**Then you should join us!**
We meet every Sunday. Itâs important to us that we get to know each other in person. To create a community of connected people, work, learn and grow together. For film making you need a crew of reliable people with a positive can-do-attitude. This is the place to find them.
Together, we will talk about these topics:
* What you are currently working on
* What you need help with
* What would you like to help with
* What you you would like to learn
This is event is great for:
* filmmakers
* movie nerds
* writers
* camera operators
* editors
* actors
* sound recorders
* composers
* gaffers
* producers
We are limiting the amount of people, so we can have a structured introduction and discussion. After that we get together loosely with some drinks and chats. And then we mostly go for dinner with a couple of us.
**Important information**:
*To sustain and grow this amazing community, we started a member contribution that is due every month. The money we collect is used solely for the purpose of the community. Of course you can come once or twice without contributing to check us out!*
Into the Zone: Stalker (1979) by Andrei Tarkovsky â Film & Discussion Meetup
We invite you to take part in a shared cinematic experience built around reflection, atmosphere, and meaningful conversation.
*Stalker* by Andrei Tarkovsky is a meditative and visually striking journey into a mysterious place known as âThe Zone,â where the laws of reality seem to shift and a hidden room promises to fulfill oneâs deepest desires. A guide known as the Stalker leads two men â a writer and a scientist â through this forbidden landscape, where every step is uncertain and nothing is as it seems.
More than a conventional narrative, the film unfolds as a philosophical and emotional exploration of faith, doubt, and the search for meaning. Through long takes, haunting imagery, and a slow, immersive rhythm, Tarkovsky creates a space where viewers are invited to question not only the charactersâ motivations, but also their own inner desires and beliefs. The journey into the Zone becomes a deeply personal experience, making each interpretation unique.

@ Anna Blume - A cozy book swap and chat meetup!
The "classical" bookswap is simple:
* We meet in a cafĂŠ and put the book(s) we brought down on the tables.
* We browse and discuss the books with one another while sipping coffee or hot chocolate, or eating cake.
* We write our names down on any books weâd like to take home (post-its and pens provided).
* At the end of the evening, negotiate any books that are contended and take a new-to-you book home!
Books/happiness shared are books/happiness multiplied! A Bookswap is 10 times better than a Book Club because you can talk about ALL the books instead of just one!
This is a great way to give your books a new home and make room for new books: that book you feel guilty for not having read even though it's been sitting on your bedside table for the last 5 years, the book you liked but didn't love, the book you loved so much you want everyone to read it, the book you somehow own three copies of, that book you absolutely hated even though everyone else loves it, and so on.
Moreover, you will meet fellow readers, get a new book or two, and several book recommendations. Weâve often had readers experience books they wouldn't normally buy and enjoy it.
GROUP EXPECTATIONS for PLEASANT SWAPPING
* Please bring a book! It's not that you bring one you take one, but do try your best to bring something.
* Books stay on the tables, open for sharing, until you are ready to leave so that everyone can have a look. We are notably not first come first serve. Please wait until you are leaving to bag the book.
* If two or more people want the only copy of a book, negotiate. Maybe one of you reads it first and then gives it to the others. Or perhaps they have found another book instead. Or leave it to fate and toss a coin. The best part: now you have found somebody whose taste you can really admire. In any case, please don't walk away with a book with several names on it without letting the others know.
These negotiations are fun and easy, so don't shy away from a book because there's already a name on it, and feel free to put your name on as many books as you find interesting. It's not that you bring one you take one; you may take as many as you can negotiate.
* Political discussions with consent: make sure the people you are talking to would like to have a political discussion with you.
* Please respect this space as first and foremost a community for connecting readers over their love of books and reading, stories, and narratives of all sorts. Please be respectful of tastes and opinions.
* If something is bothering you, please reach out to the organizers, and we'll do our best to resolve it.
* Lastly, don't expect your book back. It will find a new home. If you love it, let it go.
Major LANGUAGES (and genres) of this meetup: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian; Fiction, Non-Fiction, Serious Reading, Light Fun, âclassics", Krimis, Booker winners, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Self-Help and more. You never know who can read what languages, and there's no accounting for taste.
We are a delightful and international group of readers.
We look forward to swapping with you!

If something unavoidable comes up, please try to update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. With few exceptions, no shows or cancelations within 1
week of the event will not be eligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve. Our Partner Agency for this event is Lutheran Social Services! A huge THANK YOU to all of YOU for volunteering at this (and any of our previous) CMG Gives Back events!
Should be another good/fun/meaningful time together, Dan
Unknown Number: The High School Catfish
IMPORTANT!!! THE DATE OF THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CHANGED TO SUNDAY MAY 17, 2026!!!
A very unusual choice for his group... Unknown Number: High School Catfish is an American [true crime](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/True_crime "True crime") documentary film directed by [Skye Borgman](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skye_Borgman "Skye Borgman") and released to [streaming](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streaming_media "Streaming media") on [Netflix](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netflix "Netflix") on August 29, 2025.
The documentary explores the events and investigation into an unknown person [cyberbully](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberbullying "Cyberbullying") and [harassing](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harassment "Harassment") teenagers in [Beal City, Michigan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beal_City,_Michigan "Beal City, Michigan") using an unknown number via insults and sexual claims. It also explores the increasingly great impact of the harassment on the community, the eventual reveal of the culprit, and the trial that followed.
IMPORTANT INFO: I strongly suggest not reading anything about it online before seeing it. It's best viewed with no previous knowledge. This documentary contains crude terminology and deals with cyberbullying, which may be a trigger for some folks.
Please be ready to discuss the movie by 7PM. Thanks.
Unfortunately, it is only available on Netflix. If you would like to attend but do not have Netflix, say so and maybe we can figure something out.
