🇬🇧 **Japanese Language Kaiwa! #9** Hi guys, unfortunately I had to cancel the other event. I originally planned it for Saturday the 23rd, but I accidentally set the event for the wrong week, and next Saturday I won’t be available. So I’d like to try having it on Monday the 25th instead, since it’s a holiday. I know it’s super short notice, but I still wanted to give it a try. It’ll probably be a small group, but that’s ok. The rest stays the same: Meeting point at **Mauerpark**, starting at **4:00 pm.** Feel free to bring picnic blankets, drinks or snacks for yourself, or something to share with the group. Apologies for the confusion, and hopefully see you there! Touch and Move: Kontakt improvisieren, Community schaffen
Touch and Move: Kontakt improvisieren, Community schaffen
**Touch and Move: Improvising Contact, creating Community** with ***Jochen Kleres and/or Zahiro Ji*** for **GBTQ men\*** **[BOOK A TICKET!](https://wearevillage.org/en/shop/touch-and-move/w22-2026)** **Member: 10 €** **Non Member: 15 €** This is a class for GBTQ men\* with all levels of experience, from total newbies to advanced. We meet and begin by checking in with each other, followed by a guided exploration moving from somatic practice to contact dance improvisation. This all culminates in opening the space for the free flow of dancing and explorations in duos, trios and as a group. Bodywork will help us to warm down at the end and integrate what we experienced. Dance is our way to create a space for exploration: what happens when queer men’s bodies meet and get in touch without any expectations and intentions? In Contact Improvisation, touch is the source of finding dance movements. It helps you to be open to the here and now, to surprises, to letting go of performing roles, meeting expectations, and following scripts. Any movement can be part of this dance, no matter how simple – we literally move any way we feel. This creates a conversation without words, simply through our moving bodies. Feeling ourselves by sensing others can create nourishing bonds of community as much as it liberates us. We emphasise consensus, respect, diversity of people and energies, listening, and a non-judgmental space. **General Information** ‱ Wear comfortable clothes. ‱ We’ll speak English and/or German, depending on the needs of the group. ‱ This event is one of two free events included each month in the membership programme.

Or do you need help with a movie you are currently working on? Are you new in the city and you'd like to meet people tinkering with movies? **Then you should join us!** We meet every Sunday. It’s important to us that we get to know each other in person. To create a community of connected people, work, learn and grow together. For film making you need a crew of reliable people with a positive can-do-attitude. This is the place to find them. Together, we will talk about these topics: * What you are currently working on * What you need help with * What would you like to help with * What you you would like to learn This is event is great for: * filmmakers * movie nerds * writers * camera operators * editors * actors * sound recorders * composers * gaffers * producers We are limiting the amount of people, so we can have a structured introduction and discussion. After that we get together loosely with some drinks and chats. And then we mostly go for dinner with a couple of us. **Important information**: *To sustain and grow this amazing community, we started a member contribution that is due every month. The money we collect is used solely for the purpose of the community. Of course you can come once or twice without contributing to check us out!*

First Step Film Workshop: Make Your Own Film
**\*\*\* Note:** RSVPs made here do not guarantee a spot at the course. In order to register you must go to: [https://berlinfilmcommunity.com/product/first_step_filmmaking_2day/](https://berlinfilmcommunity.com/product/first_step_filmmaking_2day/) and pay the workshop fee. *** The goal of this course is to demystify the filmmaking process, making it the fun experience you know it can be. Have you always wanted to make a film? Let’s get that crossed off your bucket list! In a bit more than two days you will come up with an idea, shoot it, and edit it, all while being supervised by an experienced and entertaining instructor! I have tailored this course to make it flexible enough to accommodate people with absolutely zero experience as well as for people who have done a bit of filming. With this course you don’t need any fancy equipment, you can use whatever you have for a camera and a computer. This is a very hands-on workshop, the bulk of the learning will come through the process of actually making your own short film. You will learn the basics of how to structure a story, the art and techniques of visual storytelling, and how to piece it all together in the edit. The workshop will be taught in English and will include 2+ days of instruction, in field help and that sweet sense of accomplishment you will get from making your own film. In order to make sure you get the attention you need, **the class is limited to a max of 12 people**. **Verein Membership & Discount** By registering for this workshop you get a **1 year membership into the Berlin Film Community's Verein** (Officially recognized Non-Profit Association) which costs €30 and gets you an instant **10% off of not only this workshop**, but also all paid workshops and seminars we offer. Plus, being a member gets you many other benefits, such as free seminars, access to filmmaking equipment for free, rental discounts at 25p and more! **Friday equipment check and brief storytelling:** In addition to the two days of instruction and practical film work we will hold a 2 hour pre-meeting on the Friday before the workshop, which is of course included in the cost of the workshop. These two hours will allow me to check your camera and computer, making sure that they are capable enough to shoot and edit footage. I will also make sure you have an editing program installed which you will be using on Sunday. There will also be a brief story/script session which will give you some tools to help guide your story writing process so that you can hopefully have an idea prepared for the next day. This Friday session has been added in order to assure that the workshop runs super smoothly, plus we will all get to meet a bit before and hang out! If you cannot make the Friday session please let me know so we can discuss your equipment. **What you need to bring:** A camcorder, DSLR or mirrorless camera with video capabilities, or even a phone that can shoot video (make sure to have enough space to record onto it). You will also need a laptop for editing on Sunday. Actors will be available as well as some extra filmmaking support for the groups in the field on the Saturday shoot day. You can of course have any friends come to help with the acting, just please let me know. Conducted in English. No previous experience is required. If you have any questions or want to learn more about what we are doing, feel free to reach out to me at ***alex@berlinfilmcommunity.com.*** **Prep Day:** **Friday, May 29th – 19:00 – 21:00** * Equipment Check * The basics of storytelling **Day 1:** **Saturday, May 30th – 09:00 – 16:00** * How to get started – From smartphones to DSLR cameras * Composition * How to tell a story visually * Shooting for the edit * Working with actors * Filming your own short with professional supervision * Q&A and summary Day 1 **Day 2:** **Sunday, May 31st – 09:00 – 16:00** * Introduction to basic editing * How do you tell a story through editing? * Using music and sound effects in editing * Supervised practical exercise: Editing of your short films * Show your short film – Invite friends and family! * Q&A and summary of both days **About the Workshop Leader:** Hi, I’m Alex DePew and I have been working in the film industry for over 18 years and have led several filmmaking workshops, many of which have been here in Berlin. I absolutely love teaching newbies the ropes and I get tons of joy when I see someone light up as they make a connection between what I am teaching and something they have seen in a movie. When a student then applies that knowledge to their own film, it is a thing of beauty.

**Film Night – Jaripeo Documentary** For **LGBTQIA+** **[Free with registration](https://wearevillage.org/en/shop/village-film/w22-2026)** Guest: ***SebastiĂĄn Arcos*** **Jaripeo** Directors: EfraĂn Mojica, Rebecca Zweig 2026 – 70 min (In Spanish and English with English subtitles) Every Christmas, the town of Penjamillo in MichoacĂĄn comes alive with the Jaripeo — a traditional rodeo that draws locals and returning migrants from the United States, a celebration of cowboy culture and rural Mexican masculinity. Beneath the surface of this hypermasculine ritual, a hidden queer subculture blooms.nablĂ€ssiger Moralisierung bewegen. Co-directed by EfraĂn Mojica and Rebecca Zweig, the film blends traditional ranchera experimenting with electronic sounds, Super 8 footage, and dreamlike interludes to reveal a queer subculture thriving within one of rural Mexico’s most macho-coded traditions. EfraĂn itself serves as a guide and protagonist, alongside NoĂ©, a desirable cowboy who keeps his identity largely private, and Joseph, an exuberant stylist who wears his flamboyance with pride. *Jaripeo,* which premiered at Sundance and had its international premiere at the Berlinale, does not seek to expose or resolve. It simply asks us to look more carefully, and to find, within tradition, the full complexity of desire and belonging.

Jules and Jim, the Book!
Jules and Jim, the Book!
By popular demand, the group wanted to read and discuss the semi-autobiographical novel by Henri-Pierre Roche, that inspired the Truffaut movie we watched last year. The book is available through the Columbus Library's interlibrary loan system. They reported there are twenty-eight copies available in the state of Ohio. If you have a library card, you can file an interlibrary loan request here: https://www.columbuslibrary.org/library-services/ . There are also used copies available on Amazon and eBay for under twenty dollars. You may want to rewatch the movie after reading the book, so we can compare and contrast in our discussion. The Columbus Library has four copies on DVD, and it's streaming on HBOMax.

In the year 2044, in the age of AI, a woman named Gabrielle (Seydoux) tries to purify her DNA by purging the inherited memories of her past lives. She (re)lives her life in 1910 Paris and 2014 Los Angeles, and as the procedure goes on, the lines between her worlds become blurred. These three timelines have a lot of connective tissue holding them together; certain symbols and motifs appear repeatedly, not to mention Mackay’s Louis, a figure whom Gabrielle seems drawn to in each lifetime.
