The Minority Report
The Minority Report is a weekly stand-up comedy show about identity, culture, and the expat experience.
Are you a minority in Europe? Did something weird, awkward, or low-key offensive happen to you this week?
This is the space to vent your feelings about it.
Every week, comedians Bryan Lee and Moe Singleton take the stage to unpack life as outsiders, offering their unique commentary on topics like race, masculinity, relationships, and life between cultures.
Add weekly special guest comedians and “question time” with the audience, and you’ve got Berlin’s most unhinged comedy experience.
🎟️ Want to warm up before the show?
Check out our comedy workshop – a beginner-friendly stand-up class with Bryan and Moe, hosted just before the show.

We are back in Berlin for **our fourth event of the new year!**
**📦 WHAT'S THIS ABOUT?**
FTST is a **one-of-a-kind social experience** where strangers come together for an afternoon of meaningful, fun, and deep conversation. It’s also a different & cool way of meeting new people by getting a bit out of your comfort zone and skipping the small talk!
Join us for **games**, **talks**, and **connections** with **friends you haven’t met yet**. Join if you get annoyed after being asked what you do, where you are from, and how long you've been in Berlin every single time you meet someone. If you feel that there are better questions in life, this is the place for you. 🙌
**📓 HOW DOES IT WORK?**
We start with a short & sweet intro talk followed by a few light-hearted group games to warm up. After that, we split you up into small groups and start with the conversation rounds (with 3-4 people). We'll have awesome question cards that will guide the flow of the conversation. You’ll never have to speak in public if you don’t want to.

**💛 WHAT THEY SAY**
🗣 “Great way to connect with people in a more meaningful way. Get to the heart of the matter, dive straight into what really counts!” - Matthias
🗣 “F\*ck the Small Talk changes the narrative from "Where are you from?" to "When was the last time you laughed uncontrollably?" and I think that's beautiful.” - Monika
🗣 “I loved F\*ck the Small Talk, I was a little bit nervous at first but they are pros at making you feel comfortable with the rest of the group, the activities are really fun and I enjoyed every second (consider that the one who's saying this is very, very shy). Give it a try!” - Brenda
🗣 "It’s a wonderful experience, it’s like being a kid again, when you were at the park, playing with other kids, and just decided you were going to be best friends for the next hours. Maybe you’ll never see those kids again. But that hour was amazing because you both opened up and trusted each other." - Sara

Filmmakers & Movie Nerds Meetup #181
Curious what we do? Check our [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/filmmakersandmovienerds/) ♥️
Would you like to meet some like-minded filmmakers? Start a project? Or do you need help with a movie you are currently working on? Are you new in the city and you'd like to meet people tinkering with movies?
**Then you should join us!**
We meet every Sunday. It’s important to us that we get to know each other in person. To create a community of connected people, work, learn and grow together. For film making you need a crew of reliable people with a positive can-do-attitude. This is the place to find them.
Together, we will talk about these topics:
* What you are currently working on
* What you need help with
* What would you like to help with
* What you you would like to learn
This is event is great for:
* filmmakers
* movie nerds
* writers
* camera operators
* editors
* actors
* sound recorders
* composers
* gaffers
* producers
We are limiting the amount of people, so we can have a structured introduction and discussion. After that we get together loosely with some drinks and chats. And then we mostly go for dinner with a couple of us.
**Important information**:
*To sustain and grow this amazing community, we started a member contribution that is due every month. The money we collect is used solely for the purpose of the community. Of course you can come once or twice without contributing to check us out!*
Screenwriting Focus Group | Filmmakers & Movie Nerds
**🎬 Screenwriters' Meetup Invitation 🎬**
This meetup is for anyone passionate about storytelling—whether you’re a screenwriter, filmmaker, producer, or someone with a great idea looking for the right collaborators. Whether you’re just starting out or deep into your screenplay, this is the perfect space to create, collaborate, and refine your work.
**When You Bring Your Screenplay, Think About Three Key Ingredients:**
1. **Your Main Character** – Who are they? What drives them?
2. **The Central Conflict** – What’s at stake? What’s standing in their way?
3. **The Theme** – What’s the deeper idea that motivates you to tell this story?
If you’re struggling to find a theme, define your character, or establish a strong conflict—don’t worry. That’s exactly what this meetup is for. We’re here to help you uncover the core of your story and give you the tools to develop it further.
Already have an elaborate story? Great! Reflect on these elements:
* **Compelling Characters** – Are they layered, dynamic, and memorable?
* **Inner Conflicts, Interpersonal Tensions, and Global Stakes** – Does your story operate on multiple levels?
* **A Strong, Personal Theme** – Does your theme resonate with you and give your story purpose?
If you can identify these elements, we can dive even deeper and give you focused, constructive feedback to help your screenplay reach its full potential.
Bring your ideas, your drafts, and your passion. Let’s collaborate, challenge each other, and create stories that matter. We can’t wait to see you there!
The Shorts Show
Yes! It’s happening. We finally found an actual cinema for screening! Now we start the The Shorts Show as a **curated one-hour screening of curated short films**. Before the screening we meet for drinks at the Il Kino bar.
After the films, we stay, talk about movies, filmmaking and connect with other creatives and film lovers. We want to create a relaxed space for (re)discovering your movies. Let’s mingle with fellow filmmakers and experience independent cinema together.
You have to get a ticket at the cinema or better [online here](https://ilkino.de/shows/2026-05-28-1845). Being part of the meetup event doesn't qualify as entrance. There are only 52 seats and half of them are gone already.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
First Step Film Workshop: Make Your Own Film
**\*\*\* Note:**
RSVPs made here do not guarantee a spot at the course. In order to register you must go to: [https://berlinfilmcommunity.com/product/first_step_filmmaking_2day/](https://berlinfilmcommunity.com/product/first_step_filmmaking_2day/) and pay the workshop fee.
***
The goal of this course is to demystify the filmmaking process, making it the fun experience you know it can be. Have you always wanted to make a film? Let’s get that crossed off your bucket list! In a bit more than two days you will come up with an idea, shoot it, and edit it, all while being supervised by an experienced and entertaining instructor!
I have tailored this course to make it flexible enough to accommodate people with absolutely zero experience as well as for people who have done a bit of filming. With this course you don’t need any fancy equipment, you can use whatever you have for a camera and a computer. This is a very hands-on workshop, the bulk of the learning will come through the process of actually making your own short film. You will learn the basics of how to structure a story, the art and techniques of visual storytelling, and how to piece it all together in the edit.
The workshop will be taught in English and will include 2+ days of instruction, in field help and that sweet sense of accomplishment you will get from making your own film. In order to make sure you get the attention you need, **the class is limited to a max of 12 people**.
**Verein Membership & Discount**
By registering for this workshop you get a **1 year membership into the Berlin Film Community's Verein** (Officially recognized Non-Profit Association) which costs €30 and gets you an instant **10% off of not only this workshop**, but also all paid workshops and seminars we offer. Plus, being a member gets you many other benefits, such as free seminars, access to filmmaking equipment for free, rental discounts at 25p and more!
**Friday equipment check and brief storytelling:**
In addition to the two days of instruction and practical film work we will hold a 2 hour pre-meeting on the Friday before the workshop, which is of course included in the cost of the workshop. These two hours will allow me to check your camera and computer, making sure that they are capable enough to shoot and edit footage. I will also make sure you have an editing program installed which you will be using on Sunday. There will also be a brief story/script session which will give you some tools to help guide your story writing process so that you can hopefully have an idea prepared for the next day. This Friday session has been added in order to assure that the workshop runs super smoothly, plus we will all get to meet a bit before and hang out! If you cannot make the Friday session please let me know so we can discuss your equipment.
**What you need to bring:**
A camcorder, DSLR or mirrorless camera with video capabilities, or even a phone that can shoot video (make sure to have enough space to record onto it). You will also need a laptop for editing on Sunday.
Actors will be available as well as some extra filmmaking support for the groups in the field on the Saturday shoot day. You can of course have any friends come to help with the acting, just please let me know.
Conducted in English.
No previous experience is required.
If you have any questions or want to learn more about what we are doing, feel free to reach out to me at ***alex@berlinfilmcommunity.com.***

**About the Workshop Leader:**
Hi, I’m Alex DePew and I have been working in the film industry for over 18 years and have led several filmmaking workshops, many of which have been here in Berlin. I absolutely love teaching newbies the ropes and I get tons of joy when I see someone light up as they make a connection between what I am teaching and something they have seen in a movie. When a student then applies that knowledge to their own film, it is a thing of beauty.
Comics and Coffee Chat
We talk about **comics**!
Graphic novels, graphic non-fiction, comic strips, superhero comics, manga - all types of comics are welcome.
**Bring a comic book that you are currently reading or one that you want to talk about** (either a physical or digital copy). If you read comics on your tablet, then bring your tablet with you.
If you haven't read anything recently (life gets in the way, we know), then feel free to come for comic recommendations.
Depending on the weather, we'll meet either at the Bode-Museum café (1st floor, no ticket required) or at Tiergarten for a picnic. I'll write an update a day or two before the meetup!
Looking forward to seeing you there!

Jules and Jim, the Book!
By popular demand, the group wanted to read and discuss the semi-autobiographical novel by Henri-Pierre Roche, that inspired the Truffaut movie we watched last year.
The book is available through the Columbus Library's interlibrary loan system. They reported there are twenty-eight copies available in the state of Ohio. If you have a library card, you can file an interlibrary loan request here: https://www.columbuslibrary.org/library-services/ . There are also used copies available on Amazon and eBay for under twenty dollars.
You may want to rewatch the movie after reading the book, so we can compare and contrast in our discussion. The Columbus Library has four copies on DVD, and it's streaming on HBOMax.

THE BEAST/ La Bête (2023)
In the year 2044, in the age of AI, a woman named Gabrielle (Seydoux) tries to purify her DNA by purging the inherited memories of her past lives. She (re)lives her life in 1910 Paris and 2014 Los Angeles, and as the procedure goes on, the lines between her worlds become blurred. These three timelines have a lot of connective tissue holding them together; certain symbols and motifs appear repeatedly, not to mention Mackay’s Louis, a figure whom Gabrielle seems drawn to in each lifetime.
