This is located in the same building as the Visitor Centre. We'll grab a nice coffee and get to know each other there before moving on at 1pm to explore the National Botanic Gardens. This gives us an opportunity to experience something new and have something nice to talk about with our new friends. Hi everyone, I'm Jake and I'm a local history student based in Bray offering free walking tours! Today it’s known as a seaside resort and commuter town, but Bray’s history stretches back thousands of years. The area has evidence of human activity dating back to prehistoric times and even has links to the Romans. The name “Bray” is believed to come from the Irish Brí Chualann, meaning “hill of Cualu”, referring to the nearby headland known as Bray Head. Today Bray is the largest town in County Wicklow with a population of almost 35,000. Come along and find out about it's fascinating history! Unofficially, the second movie in director Lars von Trier's "Depression Trilogy," 2011 Melancholia depicts the events that occur before a rogue planet is about to collide with the earth. Considered by many to be a masterpiece, the film was included in BFI's 2022 Sight and Sound Poll of the greatest movies of all time. It is available at the library as well as on Kanopy.
