{Hiking Series} M'sia: Gunung Lambak (Butterfly Trail) ~10km Training Hike!
{Hiking Series} M'sia: Gunung Lambak (Butterfly Trail) ~10km Training Hike!
**\*If interested, please whatsapp** [wa.me/+6588842635](http://wa.me/+6588842635) **or +65 8884 2635! Sign-ups *are only confirmed after contacting us and joining the WA group! \**** Gunung Lambak is quite a well-known hike amongst Singapore hikers, as it is nearby and extremely suitable for beginners with many different trails and short trails. However, we are not doing the usual short trail to the summit, instead we are doing a butterfly trail (somewhat of a loop) as training, where it'll be \~9-10km and 5-7h of hiking in total. **Background** Gunung Lambak (510m) is an extremely popular 1-day beginner hike located in Malaysia, about 2 hours from Singapore. Many locals and Singaporeans DIY this hike. It also acts as a good starting hike and introduction to trekking for beginners or first-timers, and often used as a good training hike for those experienced who extend the trails! **The Hike** The hike takes an average of 6-8h in total. We'll head to the summit -> Microwave Station -> Big Tree -> Summit (lunch stop) -> Starting Point. Its the butterfly trail because of how it looks like when you log it on your GPS (e.g. Strava etc) There are some steep parts which can be challenging and strenuous and requires using your hands. Additionally, there are minor rope sections. This trek can be challenging for beginners so be prepared for a fun adventurous experience. The summit has a slight view of the city but not much of a view. Enjoy the breezy forest trek down before heading for a meal or free and easy activities. . To confirm, do RSVP and send me a whatsapp message! A Whatsapp group will be set up for further details. A minimum of 12 pax is needed for this trip to go ahead. Your place is only confirmed once payment is made. **Estimated Itinerary:** 5am to 5.30am – Meet Marsiling MRT, depart for Lambak 8.30am – Start trek 12.00pm – Lambak Summit (Lunch stop) 3.30pm- Reach back down and wash up 5:00pm – R&R 7.00-11 pm – Dinner before heading back to SG ***Itinerary might change depending on traffic conditions/situations. The trek leader will make the decisions accordingly. Dinner/R&R locations are not fixed as it depends on what time the group finishes. Final timing for meetup will be confirmed in the whatsapp group*** **\*You may leave your non-hiking stuff in the vehicle!\*** Price: **100 SGD per pax** Price includes: 2-ways Transport LMT Trek Leader Local Guides Price excludes: Personal Travel Insurance All Personal expenses/Meals/Activities Visa Application (if any) Everything else This event is organized by LITTLE MONSTERS TRAVEL PTE LTD Travel Agent Licence No: 03117 Contact : +65 88842635 Email: info@littlemonsterstravel.net FAQ Are there shower or toilet facilities at the park? A: There are quite basic but clean toilets at the park. Be prepared to shower using a bucket of cold water and a pail. Please bring a change of clothes and shower when you are down from Lambak. No smelly people in the vehicle! How fit do I have to be? I am afraid of being the slowest/burden to the group. A: You would need basic endurance and be open-minded, embrace the challenge of using your hands and steep terrain. Many people and locals climb Lambak everyday. However do note the distance, and it might not be suitable for you if you struggle with stairs, or walking <5km or to lunch everyday What happens if it rains! A: We would continue if its light and go slowly, or wait it out most likely as tropical showers do not last long. Also, always expect to hike with rain

[Hiking Series] M'sia - Datuk: Sunrise Hike + Malacca for hiking "beginners"
**\*If interested, please whatsapp** [wa.me/+6588842635](wa.me/+6588842635) **or +65 8884 2635! Sign-ups *are only confirmed after contacting us and joining the WA group! \**** Gunung Datuk is a good **challenging (depends on who you ask)** starting hike and introduction to trekking for beginners or first-timers who wish to know **what hiking really entails!** It is also one of the more fun short-day hikes for the adventurous! Mount Datuk (885m) is an extremely popular 1-day beginner hike located in Malaysia, about an hour away from Malacca. The hike takes an average of 2.5h up and 2.5h down. It is not too long, yet challenging and strenuous enough for a half-day hike. There are some very steep parts and the trek requires using your hands. Additionally, there are minor rope sections and ladders near the summit. This trek can be **challenging for beginners** so be prepared for a fun adventurous experience. At the summit, there is a nice view of the surroundings and we can take a break on the rocks and enjoy the wind before descending! After that, the plan is to hunt for some good food in Malacca! If we end earlier, there will be more time for free and easy along Jonker street. Of course within the group, there will be people of various speeds. Those faster can have more time at the summit and wash up first. Please be patient for the slower ones! The intention of the trip is to introduce newbies who haven't tried trekking before so please be patient and welcoming! It is important to be open-minded and sporting enough to embrace challenges! There are mosquitoes and leeches abound =) **Do note it is NOT a walk in the park** To confirm, do RSVP and send me a whatsapp message! A Whatsapp group will be set up. A minimum of **12 pax** is needed for this trip to go ahead. Your place is only confirmed once payment is made. Here is the estimated itinerary: Saturday \~11.30pm-12.00am – Meet Marsiling MRT, depart for Datuk 4.00am – Stop by for breakfast 5.00am – Start trek at with headlights 7.30am – Summit 11.00am- Reach back and wash up 1.00pm – Head to Malacca for food 4.00pm – Depart back to Singapore 9-12pm – Reach back Marsiling MRT (depends on traffic) **\*You may leave your non-hiking items on the bus\*** Please have your own headlights! Price: **120SGD per pax** Price includes: 2-ways Transport LMT Trek Leader Local Guides + Necessary Park Permits and Fees LMT Info-Kit Price excludes: Personal Travel Insurance All Personal expenses/Meals/Activities in Malacca Visa Application (if any) Everything else This event is organized by LITTLE MONSTERS TRAVEL PTE LTD Travel Agent Licence No: 03117 Contact : +65 88842635 Email: info@littlemonsterstravel.net Some additional questions: 1. How long is the ride to Mount Datuk A: It takes only around 3-4h from Singapore - Datuk/Malacca. 2. The journey to Datuk only takes 3 hours, why do we set off so early? A: This is so that we can save money on accommodation/driver cost/taxi to MRT station. This also means there is a lack of sleep, so try to sleep in the vehicle! Bring a travel pillow! 3. Are there shower or toilet facilities at the park? A: Very basic shower and toilet facilities. Please bring a change of clothes and shower when you are down from Datuk. No smelly people in the vehicle! 4. Do I get to see the sunrise at the top? A: Maybe. Depends on how comfortable everyone is with walking with headlights. 5. I am totally new to hiking, what should I bring/wear? Is there training? A: I will set up a WhatsApp group for questions and provide some info-kit to prepare. Most important is being open =) 6. How fit do I have to be? I am afraid of being the slowest/burden to the group. A: You would need basic endurance and be open-minded, embrace the challenge of using your hands and going up and down rocks or steep terrain. Many people have done Datuk, of various fitness, the group will move at a slower pace to help build that confidence. 7. What happens if it rains! A: If it is a light drizzle, we would continue. Usually we'll continue, or wait until the heavy rain stops. If it rains, it'll be slippery so go slow!

"The Tenant of Wildfell Hall" by Anne Brontƫ
"The Tenant of Wildfell Hall" by Anne Brontƫ
\* Please note the change in venue. !Beware of scams & false impersonation! We do not feature new authors or charge a speaker fee but wish you the best. Country: England Written in: 1848 Pages: 576 On the heels of the movie release of a different famous Bronte sisters movie, we'll turn our attention to the lesser-known Anne Brontƫ. The Tenant of Wildfell Hall tackles women's independence and the injustice of power and control given legally to an abusive husband, which gained her harsh criticism from traditional Victorian thinkers. Her act of rebellion in telling this story is just one of the reasons it's still important today. From [Goodreads](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/337113.The_Tenant_of_Wildfell_Hall): Gilbert Markham is deeply intrigued by Helen Graham, a beautiful and secretive young woman who has moved into nearby Wildfell Hall with her young son. He is quick to offer Helen his friendship, but when her reclusive behaviour becomes the subject of local gossip and speculation, Gilbert begins to wonder whether his trust in her has been misplaced. It is only when she allows Gilbert to read her diary that the truth is revealed and the shocking details of the disastrous marriage she has left behind emerge. Told with great immediacy, combined with wit and irony, *The Tenant of Wildfell Hall*is a powerful depiction of a woman's fight for domestic independence and creative freedom. \*\*\*\*\* **New to the Hungry Hundred Book Club?** Here's what you need to know: 1. Read the book (If you don't manage to finish it by the meetup date, don't worry. As long as you're not going to be too disappointed by spoilers, you're still welcome to join.) 2. Come to the meeting, usually (but not always!) on the last Sunday of every month. 3. Be prepared to order food/drink at the venue to show our appreciation for letting us use their space. This is a requirement. A lot of time and effort has been put into finding a place that will accommodate our group without an outrageous minimum charge or rental fee, and you'll never be asked to contribute to organiser fees, so please show your respect and support for the restaurant that's letting us use their space. 4. Discuss! It's a casual conversation, so don't be afraid to ask questions and let us know what you think. 5. Starting in May 2026, attendance fees collected will be split 50% towards Meetup platform fees, and 50% donated to the Singapore Book Council (or other Singapore based charitable organisation). Once Meetup platform fees are covered, 100% will be given to charity.

Stalker
Stalker
Based on the novel Roadside Picnic, it is NO picnic, but rather one of the masterpieces of world cinema. Andrei Tarkovsky's 1979 Soviet sci-fi classic, recounts the expedition of a writer and professor led by a mysterious guide called "The Stalker." to a futuristic wasteland called "The Zone." Dripping with existential dread, it continually presents strange occurrences that will have us debating the meaning of what we've just viewed right through the ending. *Stalker* (1979) can be streamed for free on HBOMax, the Criterion Channel or Kanopy. It's also available for rent on Amazon Prime and AppleTV. The Columbus Library has two copies on disc.
