Let’s kick this community off by gathering in an intimate, art-filled space to share words and connect with fellow writers. This opening event for this new group will be a low-pressure, living-room–style open mic for writers of all stages. Bring a short piece you love or are struggling with (2000 words or less, poets 3 pieces or fewer, totaling no more than 2000 words) or maybe something you’re experimenting with. What to expect: * Short open mic readings (everyone gets 10 minutes) * A respectful audience of fellow writers * A cozy, creative environment designed for sharing work-in-progress * Clear structure, kind vibes, and no pressure to perform Location: This event will take place in a private, art-forward residence in Montgomery County, MD that is cozy, creative, and perfect for an intimate open mic. The exact address will be shared privately with confirmed RSVPs. We all are native speakers of one or two languages and be willing to help others and try to accommodate as much as possible. 4. If you don't speak the other person's required language, LEAVE THEM ALONE. 5. Rude or aggressive members are removed from the group at an organizers discretion. 6. This is a face-to-face language exchange event. DO NOT try to arrange an online meeting, by using the comment box or direct message. 7. Writing is largely a solitary craft. Practicing with others in a community setting may be the thing you need to fire your own routine. We’ll meet on Wednesday evenings, starting the clock at 6:30, following a brief period of introductions. This is solid writing time and all inclusive. Any project is acceptable, be it fiction, non -fiction, work or homework assignment. All is welcome and will remain private to you. The market boasts a Starbucks, a full service bar and various affordable food options. Parking is plentiful, free Wifi is provided as well as outlets for charging your devices, though they are somewhat limited, so plan accordingly. Show up as early as you like, or stay late. This group tends to socialize some, both before and after the alloted time, but this is not mandatory to you. Feel free to come and go as you please and late arrivals are welcome.
