Finding Resilience through Purpose:
Finding Resilience through Purpose:
Hello TEDheads, **Happy New Year!** Last Friday is known as 'Quitter's Day' when most of the people in the world give up on their resolutions. No problem, we all face that with every positive choice, but what helps us to gain resilience to live the lives we want to live? These talks will help us have a conversation around purpose, our story, and resilience. Are you living the life you want? ***Please watch the following 2 talks on your own device BEFORE the event. Have a watch, compare the videos, and bring insights and questions along to the conversation.*** *** # ★ **Talk #1:** [The roots of resilience](https://www.ted.com/talks/misty_copeland_the_roots_of_resilience?referrer=playlist-10_essential_ted_talks_of_2025&autoplay=true) How did Misty Copeland break barriers and become one of the world's most famous ballerinas? In this powerful talk, she charts her rise from childhood adversity to history-making dancer at the prestigious American Ballet Theatre — and gives a peek at what she plans to do next. https://www.ted.com/talks/misty_copeland_the_roots_of_resilience?referrer=playlist-10_essential_ted_talks_of_2025&autoplay=true # ★ **Talk # 2:** [What Makes Us Uniquely Human? | Erwin Raphael McManus | TEDxSanDiego](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BdgVfhciSwhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BdgVfhciSw) Erwin challenges us to understand that we are naturally creative, that we are the only species that is capable of creating our own future. We, in fact, have the power to materialize the invisible, to create that which we can imagine. And we also have the capacity to imagine ourselves different that we are, better than we are. In the end, the question is not “Will we create?”, but rather, “What will we create?” Erwin Raphael McManus was born in San Salvador, El Salvador, and lives in Los Angeles, California with his beautiful wife Kim. He is known for the integration of creativity and spirituality and the pursuit of what it means to be truly and fully human. He is the founder of MOSAIC, an expression of the church born out of Los Angeles, California. MOSAIC is known for its commitment to beauty, creativity, diversity, and social entrepreneurism and has been named one of the most influential and innovative churches in America. Erwin is the author of several books including his most recent bestseller, The Artisan Soul-Crafting your life into a work of art. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BdgVfhciSw **Please note the following:** We want to provide a space for those who are curious about life, enjoy TED Talks, and want to share their findings with others. Please join us as we consider this topic, **Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 7:15pm.** Newcomers are most welcome! Hoping to see you there. (Please sign up only if you really intend to attend). NOTE: We ask for a **3 Euro contribution** on the night to cover costs. Thank you.

Let’s play... Yokai Hunters Society / Mothership
Let’s play... Yokai Hunters Society / Mothership
Join us every Sunday and tell a story as a group by playing a beginner-friendly roleplaying game. Every week we have 2-3 different games. All materials provided and rules are explained at the start of each game, you just need to bring your imagination. 🎭 **This week's facilitators:** * 👺 **Scott** guiding Meiji-era monster hunters through the finale of *Yokai Hunters Society*. The Society is under attack! The identities of many hunters have been leaked by a mole, and The Black Lotus have jumped on the opportunity, kidnapping or killing anyone they find. You are ones of the lucky few to remain anonymous; you must skulk your way through the streets of Kyoto and put an end to this gang of criminals once and for all. But be careful, there are reports that they now have control over the yokai themselves... * 👽 **Axel** with another installment of the sci-fi horror game, *Mothership*. In the dark reaches of the Vagnerov Outback, at the edge of human-settled space, missing persons are a regrettable fact of life, and some remain missing despite the best efforts of government and corporate authorities, and freelance contractors such as Spinward Solutions. Will this case be any different? Will it end well or in horror? Play and find out... *** Feel free to ask the organisers any questions you have (here or on our [Discord server](https://tinyurl.com/indie-rpgs-dublin)).

Her Shelf Begins: A St Brigid’s Day Feminist Book Roulette
Her Shelf Begins: A St Brigid’s Day Feminist Book Roulette
St Brigid’s Day is about new beginnings, creativity, and women’s power — so we’re starting our feminist book meetup right here. This is the very first meetup in our group , a women-led space celebrating books written by women, feminist voices, and stories that shaped us (or quietly unsettled us). Instead of homework or pressure to “have read the right thing,” we’ll begin with a book roulette: bring a book by a woman that mattered to you (or intrigued you) briefly share why you chose it swap, recommend, or simply listen No literary expertise required. Curiosity is enough. ✨ Expect: thoughtful but relaxed conversation feminist perspectives (gentle or fiery, both welcome) a sense of community, not performance Come as you are. Read what you love. Let this be the first chapter. Magda & Srijata

Dale Gnidovec, Curator of the Orton Hall Museum of Geology at The Ohio State University, will be presenting a program he has wanted to share with us for a long time: Plate Tectonics. His description of his program: Continents on the move - Nothing in Earth history makes sense without moving continents - it tells us why mountains, volcanoes, minerals, and fossils are where they are. This talk examines the evidence for continental drift, why it was disbelieved, and explains how the more-encompassing theory of plate tectonics was developed and eventually proven. Dale is an energetic, incredibly knowledgeable, and very entertaining speaker and this will be another wonderful program by Dale. Hope to see you there! Food and drinks will be provided at the event.
