Debate Night: Remote Work
Debate Night: Remote Work
One of the defining changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic is the proliferation of remote work, alternatively known as telework or work from home. Technology had been advancing to the point that many jobs could be done at least in part from home. With a work laptop, video calling, a stable internet connection, and a cyber security program, many office jobs can be done at home without any serious hindrance. When COVID started, many white collar employees became full time remote workers. Six years after the start of the pandemic, many of these people still work at least in part from home. Recent years have seen rising skepticism about remote work, particularly among management. Questions have been raised about whether people working from home are as productive or efficient as those in the office. Similarly, whether work culture can be as effectively created with people often working from home has also become a topic of discussion. Long story short, remote work is, to some degree, here to stay. But to what degree? Do the costs outweigh the benefits? Come discuss this at Brussels Debaters!

Board Game Fun Night @ Hal5 in Kessel-Lo
1. **Always RSVP before attending.** 2. **Limited spots:** RSVP does not guarantee a spot — please check if you're on the main list or the waitlist. 3. **WAITLIST notice:** Please don’t take a spot from someone who signed up in time — only attend if you’re off the waitlist. You may move to the active list if someone cancels, which can happen the day before or even on the day of game night. 4. **Be on time:** If you’re more than 15–20 minutes late, you likely can’t join a table — we won’t restart game explanations for latecomers. You may wait for the next game. 5. **Take care of the games:** The people hosting the evening kindly bring and share their own private — and often quite expensive — games. Please don’t bend the cards (these aren’t just cheap poker decks!), be gentle with the components, and make sure everything goes back neatly in the box. 6. **Be present, not on your phone:** Please give your attention when someone is explaining the rules — especially the person hosting the game, who took the time to prepare and make sure everyone can enjoy it. This is a game night, not just a casual bar hangout, so please respect their effort and the focus of the other players. 7. **No double booking:** On Wednesdays, another game night is organized at the same time by another group, the International House of Leuven (IHL). If you sign up for both events, we will automatically remove you from our list. Please don’t be rude by occupying a spot that someone else could use — respect both communities and let everyone enjoy a fair chance to join.

Body, Movement and Silence: An Experiential Workshop
Body, Movement and Silence: An Experiential Workshop
**Body, Movement and Silence: An Experiential Workshop** By Katerina Ioannou Brussels, 25 March 2026 Register here: https://www.imaginationclub.org/brussels/body_movement_silence.php In this workshop, we’ll explore how we express ourselves and connect with others — not through words, but through our bodies, movement, and the space between us. We’ll play with simple exercises that invite spontaneity, imagination, and a sense of presence. There’s no right or wrong way — just what feels true for you in the moment. What you might discover \* New ways to listen — to yourself and others — without relying on language. \* A sense of freedom in expressing what’s alive for you, however it wants to emerge. \* A shared moment at the end, where we reflect with a word or image on what moved us. **Who it’s for** This is for anyone who wants to explore, play, and see what unfolds when we let go of expectations. No experience is needed—just come as you are. **About Katerina** Katerina Ioannou (B.Sc. in Occupational Therapy, M.Sc. in Person-Centred Psychotherapy) specialises in mental health support, group facilitation, and personal development. Based in Brussels, she empowers individuals and groups through therapy, occupational rehabilitation, and innovative methods like theatrical play. You can also find Katerina on... Book Club Invitation: Hiroshima by John Hersey
Book Club Invitation: Hiroshima by John Hersey
Book Club Invitation: Hiroshima by John Hersey Hello thoughtful readers, history explorers, and reflective minds, This March, we turn to Hiroshima — John Hersey’s powerful and deeply human account of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, told through the lives of six survivors. First published in 1946, this short but extraordinary work of narrative journalism changed how the world understood nuclear war. Rather than focusing on strategy or politics, Hersey brings us into kitchens, hospitals, streets, and ordinary lives — just before, during, and after an unimaginable event. It is not a book of statistics. It is a book of people. If you’ve ever found yourself wondering: • What does technological power mean when it outpaces moral imagination? • How do ordinary individuals survive extraordinary catastrophe? • What does war look like when we strip away ideology and see only human consequences? • Can we truly understand history without listening to those who lived it? …then this discussion will offer space for depth, nuance, and reflection. Date: Saturday, 28 March ⏰ Time: 11:30 Venue: Carpe Diem, Avenue de Tervuren 13, 1040 Brussels Expect a thoughtful and grounded discussion about memory, responsibility, resilience, and the human cost of progress — in a relaxed atmosphere with good coffee and good company. As always, those who wish can stay on for lunch afterward and continue the conversation informally. Questions: 0474.60.83.70 Book Club Home Rules 1️⃣ You are welcome whether you read every page or focused on key sections. 2️⃣ We listen to understand, not to win. 3️⃣ Curiosity, respect, and openness are essential — especially when themes are heavy.

Conversazione in italiano @ Poppy's - Vicino parvis st gilles
Ciao a tutti! Freedom, Safety, Risk & Reward
Freedom, Safety, Risk & Reward
How are the dynamics of freedom, safety, risk and reward all interrelated? Is it simply a question of how we can always maximize both freedom and reward? What roles do risk and safety/security play in this system? Can freedom and security be considered simply both as rewards, each with its own values and merits? Are freedom and safety (not) nevertheless zero-sum related, more of one entailing less of the other? How are freedom and risk-taking related? Does risk-taking (not) by definition always mean less security? The concept of risk can mean: 1)the probability of something bad occurring ("frequency") and/or 2)how bad that bad thing can be ("amplitude") What implications do each of these two different types of risk carry regarding both freedom and security? How are freedom, risk and recklessness interrelated? What does the concept "freedom to make the best choices" mean? Is individual freedom at the expense of safety (not) over-prioritized in our current world culture (possibly in some regional cultures more than in others)? Or, seemingly contrarily, is our culture/society in fact overly-obsessed about safety? Is it true (or not) that risk-taking always leads to greater potential reward? Is risk-taking nowadays - possibly as a result of (and/or to promote) capitalist culture? - (not) _ethically_ overvalued? Are some regional cultures in today's world more reward-driven (for example, to become rich, glamorous, famous and powerful) than others? What should be our ideal culture/attitudes regarding rewards and the earning of rewards? What values should we give to freedom, risk, reward and safety in a _war_ situation? In our society/world, should there be _fewer_ or _more_ rules with regards to risk-taking, security and reward? Tennis doubles (NOT FOR BEGINNERS) - Set Wahis Schaerbeek
Tennis doubles (NOT FOR BEGINNERS) - Set Wahis Schaerbeek
Hello! This is a meet-up to play tennis from 2 pm to 4 pm on Sunday. Meeting is on the courts. The courts are booked under the name Jean-Marc. This event is for intermediate and advanced players and not organised for novice players or beginners. Please make sure to bring the exact sum of 10 € in cash. The event is non-commercial. This sum covers the cost of the courts reserved. The organizer is not there to make money out of you. Ladies are encouraged to join. If anyone wants to drop out, they should do it on Saturday morning, not on Sunday the day of the meetup, another wise it would be too late to find a replacement in time or to cancel a court in time with reimbursement. If you don't do this, you will be asked by the organizer to reimburse your participation fee. If this happens too late then those who have cancelled after Saturday morning will have to cover the extra cost for reserving the courts. In the past meetups, it happened too many times that we were an oneven number and because of that all those present had less fun to play. If you don't show up without giving a written excuse in time, the first future participation will be cancelled and you will be asked to reimburse the participation fee. If it happens too many times you will not be able to participate anymore. In case if we are an uneven number of players, then the last player (except the host of course who has to collect the money) can leave or persuade other players to play with him or her. Of course if the last player leaves, then he or she doesn't have to pay the participation fee. If this player leaves, he or she will be added on a future event by the host or organizer in the participation list if the player is far away in the waiting list. This is the advantage of leaving on a voluntary basis;-). We operate on the principle of Fair Play as we do not have umpires or referees. Any disputes or disagreements over line calls or scores should be resolved immediately on the court and, when agreement is not possible, the point or game should be replayed. To be able to replay the game, 3 players need to agree on that without manipulation of the one who disputes an entire game, anotherwise injustice could occur where in the end possibly the biggest cheater could win... This situation applies also, if the host or the organizer is involved. When one of the players still doesn't accept this compromise, then it should be reported (meetup message by preference) to the organizer or host of the meetup event. One of the consequences could be that the first upcoming event could be cancelled by the organizer for the player who doesn't comply with the compromise to play the point or the game again. If the same player does that again for a second time, then the person will see 4 of his next tennis meetups cancelled. If this happens a third time with the same player, then the player in question will be banned from all future tennis meetups with an exclusion as a final result. Whenever there is a big problem, it should be reported as well to the organizer of the group so he can, if necessary, take actions to improve the situation for all the players. Please also note that if you are the first on the waiting list, you will automatically be moved up to the attendance list if someone pulls out. So if you are on the waiting list and see that you cannot attend, please also change your status to not going. If you would like to organize a meet up either this week or next week please get in touch with me, my name is Jean-Marc. It will depend on your initiatives to create more tennis meetups per week.

From Web Forms to Web Components - Burton Smith
**Important time note:** Please plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00 as the elevators lock after 6 and you'll need to message us and we'll need to come get you. The building address is 4450 Bridge Park The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400 **Abstract** Web Forms gave .NET developers a powerful abstraction for building reusable UI controls long before design systems were a thing. Web Components finally bring that same idea to the browser natively. This session explores how the Web Forms mindset translates into Custom Elements, Shadow DOM, and HTML templates. We’ll examine how Web Components enable design systems that work across frameworks, how they differ from server‑driven controls, and why they’re becoming a foundational layer for modern UI. Whether you’re maintaining legacy apps or building greenfield projects, you’ll leave with a practical understanding of how to apply familiar patterns in a modern, standards‑based way. **YouTube Link** TBA
