**For this week** **we have booked a table for us upstairs in the name of Dublin Korean Culture Meet Up. When entering the restaurant please ask for our group.**
Our aim is to create a friendly, sociable and safe way for people to meet and discuss Korean and Irish culture. If you been made to feel uncomfortable or have seen inappropriate behaviour at a meet up then please contact one of our organisers in confidence.
\*\*\* PLEASE CLICK ON ATTEND IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO GO \*\*\*

It is not necessary to buy food, but if you don't please buy at least one drink as restaurants have had a hard time during the pandemic.
\*\*\* This meetup is for adults only (18+) except where accompanied by a parent or legal guardian (proof of status e.g. court documents may be requested) \*\*\*
How to get to the meet up:
*LUAS* \- the Drunken Fish is right next to the Mayor Square \- NCI Luas stop on the red line
*DART/Irish Rail* \- Dublin Connolly is probably the easiest station for most people\, but the Docklands station is also close
*PARKING* \- the carpark for the National College of Ireland \(NCI\) is probably the most convenient and only charges 5 euro for the whole evening after 5\.30pm
Meetup details below:
New faces welcome!! Bring your 친구 too.
[Place] Drunken Fish Restaurant/Bar, The Excise Building, Mayor Street Lower, IFSC, Dublin 1

\*Bring your ID if you're lucky enough to look under 25! ;)
\*There's no admission fee for our meetup however, you'll be kindly asked to purchase at least 1 drink after your arrival. As you could probably imagine, it's not so easy to book such a big place on a Friday evening in Dublin city centre and your cooperation in this will greatly help us to secure the place for our future gatherings.
\*Take good care of your own belongings and do not consume more alcohol than you can handle, Meetup organisers nor venue management do not hold any responsibilities on lost items before/during or after the meetup.
Hope to see you all there! :)

Sutton to Howth Walk via Shielmartin Hill
This Saturday (4th July), we'll be doing a walk from Sutton DART station. From the meeting point, we'll follow the coast in a south-easterly direction, climb Shielmartin Hill (at 163m is the 2nd highest peak on Howth Head) and then see the beautiful rhododendron gardens of Howth Castle, before finishing up in Howth. Although the start and finish points are the same as a walk we did in April, the route will be mostly different.
The total length of the walk is around 8.9km and some parts are quite steep. It is recommended to wear long trousers or leggings as one of the paths has a lot or gorse next to it.
Feel free to bring snacks as we could have a short break at some point. Or if people wish, we could go for Howth's famous fish and chips or to a pub at the end of the walk.
Feel free to come on the walk even if you haven't been to a meet up before. This is a great way to meet new people and see new places.
**\*\*\* Important, please click on Attend if you wish to join this event. If you have a friend who wants to go make sure they go as your guest or ask them to join separately \*\*\***
\*\*\* If you wish to wander off during a break then it's probably OK but please agree with the organisers a time you'll return so we're not waiting for you \*\*\*
[Time] 12.04 \~ 16:30. The suggested train to catch leaves Dublin Connolly at 11:45 that gets into Sutton (one stop before Howth) at 12:04pm. It actually starts in Bray at 10:57 and stops at all stations en route so feel free to get on at the most convenient station for you.
[Place] Outside Sutton Station
[Host(s)] Tim (085 718 5658) Feel free to send a message via Whatsapp
FAQs
1. Is there a charge for this event? No, this is a free event. Sometimes we have events that involve a visit to a museum or garden with an entrance fee - but this will be clearly marked in the details
2. Is it OK for people on a short visit to Ireland to join this walk? Yes both visitors and residents alike are welcome to join our walks.
3. How easy/difficult is this walk? Most walking groups would classify this as a medium walk with some steep sections, so having a reasonable level of fitness is recommended.
4. Why are there only a limited number of places for this event? To ensure the best possible experience for the people attending it is necessary to limit the numbers, especially as the chosen route may not be straightforward and along narrow paths.
5. Why is it necessary to book on this event if you wish to attend? This is because there are only a limited number of spaces (see point above) and to ensure the fairest allocation of spaces, we kindly request everyone to book a place. It's OK to change your mind about coming but please change your RSVP as soon as you have for someone else to take the place if they wish to.
PLEASE NOTE: Walking like many outdoor activities carries an element of risk. People who take part in our meet up activities do so at their own risk and are responsible for their own actions and involvement. If you register to join our meet up walks you agree that you wish to take part in the activities despite these risks.
Please wear boots, shoes or runners that you find comfortable, provide suitable support and have good grip as some of the paths may be uneven or steep. It is also recommended to bring water to avoid dehydration. Bring warm clothes and a waterproof jacket or umbrella in case of inclement weather.

French Speaking Practice – Real Conversation & Confidence Building
Do you understand French but struggle to speak naturally when it’s time to respond?
Join a relaxed **French conversation group** where we use **real news stories** as a way to practise **speaking French** in a natural and structured way.
This is not a traditional lesson. It’s a guided conversation space where you **practise speaking** through real-life content.
\#\# 📰 THIS SESSION’S TOPIC : A REAL NEWS STORY
In this session, we will work with a short French news extract about **Fake police officers in Marseille**.
\#\# 🎥 BEFORE THE SESSION
Before the meetup, you will watch a short French news video about **Fake police officers in Marseille**.
This video will give you the key vocabulary and context so you feel more comfortable speaking during the session.
You will also receive a few simple comprehension questions to help you prepare your ideas.
\#\# 💬 DURING THE MEETUP
We will use the news story as a starting point for discussion and speaking practice.
You will be guided through conversation questions to help you :
* describe what happened in the story
* to identify / describe someone involved in the story
* situate events in time and space
* to express a hypothesis.
You don’t need perfect French — the goal is to speak and build confidence.
\#\# 🗣️ ACTIVITY FORMAT
The session will include :
* group discussion based on the video
* guided speaking questions
* interactive conversation practice
* a final speaking activity / role-play based on the scenario
\#\# 🎯 WHAT YOU WILL IMPROVE
By the end of the session, you will have practised how to :
* speak more spontaneously in French
* understand and react to real French content
* build confidence when expressing ideas
* move from “I understand” to “I can respond”
\#\# 🌿 ATMOSPHERE
This is a supportive, low-pressure environment. Mistakes are welcome and part of the learning process. The goal is communication, not perfection.
\#\# 👥LEVEL
Intermediate French learners (you should already understand basic French and be able to form simple sentences).
\#\# ⭐ Free event – feedback appreciated
This is a free session, and your feedback is very important for me as I build these conversation groups.
At the end of the meetup, I’ll kindly ask participants to leave a short review about their experience — it really helps others decide whether to join future sessions.
\#\# 📩 Feel free to join or message me if you have any questions
reviving gardans, Growing community
**Hands in the Soil: Community Growing, Learning & Craic**
This first gathering will be a relaxed mix of **hands-on garden work, shared learning, and good conversation**. It’s about getting together in a real space, doing something practical, and seeing what ideas and connections might grow from there.
On the day, we’ll:
* Get our **hands dirty** with some light garden work and soil prep
* Do some **seed sowing** and talk about what grows well locally
* **Make kombucha together** and chat about fermentation, food, and simple home practices
* Share knowledge, questions, and experiences around growing food
* Enjoy some **fellowship, chats, and a bit of craic** along the way.Alongside the practical side, we’ll also have an open, informal discussion about a bigger idea:
* The possibility of **small community “park farms” or gardens** in underused green spaces around Dublin
* What that might look like, what’s realistic, and whether others feel drawn to exploring it further
There’s no pressure, no expertise required, and no expectation beyond showing up with curiosity and a willingness to pitch in. Whether you’re experienced with gardening or completely new, you’re very welcome.
Bring clothes you don’t mind getting muddy, and if you have them, gloves. Everything else will be very low-key.
This is just a **first step** — a chance to meet, work, talk, and see if there’s a shared appetite to keep growing something together.

Zazen Meditation + Dharma talk or Kinhin
The meaning of the word zen is meditation, zazen means sitting meditation. In zazen practice we begin to know ourselves, and to go beyond the limits of our personal ego. Within our tradition zazen is referred to as shikantaza, not doing, letting go of thoughts, dropping off body and mind. This sitting meditation is the focus of our practice. Language limits our ability to communicate the true nature of zen; it is something that is better understood
through practice. We are open to everyone interested in learning about zen.
Intro workshop for newcomers is available at 5.30pm each Sunday. The dojo is a sacred place and it is important to be considerate of everyone. We have many people that travel to practise together once a week or once a month. So for that reason it is really essential that we all know the structure of the sitting practise (when to sit, how to do Kinhin, the different bell sounds and their meaning etc), to ensure a silent, safe and meaningful meditation. And it's also great to meet everyone before the sitting practise. And answer any questions you may have.
We have zafus and zabutons (mats and cushions) for all to sit on. Chairs are available too.
Comfortable clothing for sitting, black or neutral tones best.
We greatly appreciate a donation of €5 to cover costs if it's possible for you.
Please arrive 10min before start so 6ish (if you're not doing the intro workshop).
You are very welcome to our dojo!
Sunday Evening Zazen meditation
Join us for Zazen Meditation. please arrive at 6pm.
newcomers please arrive at 5.45 for an introduction to Zazen meditation.
