Sunday we'll pack up and make our way back to Ballarat via the Creswick Trails and State Forest.
Cresfest tickets are currently on sale, so if you are interested in booking a paid event it would be a good idea to start thinking about that now.
I have booked a table at the American Hotel for 6.30 on Saturday. There is a supermarket and plenty of cafes in town to purchase food. We can have a BBQ dinner on Friday night, a short walk from the hall.
The entire town is booked out but we have secured the use of the local Scout Hall for the two nights. The Hall has plenty of grassed area to pitch your tent or park your van. You can also sleep inside the hall, however, it is a concrete floor. The hall is well equipped, with oven and hotplates, microwave, crockery, cutlery, pots pans, kettle, griller oven, fridge, tables and chairs. You only need to bring your bedding. There is a toilet in the hall but no shower. A free shower is located at a local park, a short distance from the hall.
Etiquette: Social pace. We wait for each other to regroup at key navigational points. No one is left behind with a puncture.

Sunday Bus: Lost Childrens Walk Daylesford - 14km and 15.5km - 22 Mar
**WALK DESCRIPTION:**
This walk commemorates the tragic story from Daylesford's gold era when three small boys (aged 6, 5 and 4) wandered away from their homes in Daylesford in 1867. Despite a massive and lengthy search effort the boys were never found alive.
The **Three Lost Children's walk** follows the approximate route the boys walked. The walk will take you through bush landscapes that were once active goldfields, and are now part of the Wombat State Forest and the Hepburn Regional Park. Along the walk you will see remnants of gold mines, water races and tramways.
The **Easy/Medium group** will follow the entire walk, while the **Easy group** will commence about 1.5k in from the start. The walk undulates through heathy dry forest which includes Long-leaf Box, Red Box and Red Stringybark eucalypt varieties. A walking pole would be an advantage for some of the slopes that are, although short, quite steep.
We hope to end the walks in time for a visit to the **award-winning craft cidery** which produces a diverse range of craft cider, made using the heritage cider apples organically grown on the farm. A cider tasting paddle may be the perfect end to a winter walk. A reminder to bring a change of footwear for the trip back, because dirty boots leave marks on the bus that our club pays to have cleaned.
Please note that at this time of year there is always a possibility of encountering snakes, and appropriate leg covering is recommended.
As the weather can be warm at this time of year, **please carry at least 2 litres of water.**
.
**DISTANCE(S):** 14km and 15.5km
.
**TOTAL ASCENT(S):** 440m Rise and 490m Rise
.
**GRADINGS:** Easy and Easy/Medium
**Easy (E):** Walking mostly on tracks or in open country, with possibly some stretches of light scrub. Few hills and adequate rest stops. Distances may be up to 15km in flat open terrain but will be shorter if scrub or significant hills are involved.
**Easy/Medium (E/M):** More consistent walking, mostly on tracks or in open country, but with some significant hills, probably some stretches of light scrub. Possibility of some rock hopping. Distances up to 19km but may be much shorter depending on the difficulty of the terrain. Reasonable lunch and rest stops.

There is no way for them to get back to their transport. We can arrange for a pick-up and drop-off at a designated location along the route closer to Melbourne, however, the full bus fee is still payable since a seat has to be kept free on the bus.

.
**DO YOU HAVE COMPREHENSIVE AMBULANCE COVER?** The Club strongly recommends that all participants have comprehensive personal ambulance cover.
.
**MORE DETAILS:**
The visit to the clubrooms on a Wednesday before a walk is to cover three things:
(a) Provide background on the club and ensure all walkers are familiar with the safety and courtesy guidelines we adopt;
(b) Meet with the leader of the walk who will be in the clubrooms to discuss any special features of the walk and ensure that adequate gear and fitness requirements are met.
(c) Sign an Acknowledgement of Risk form and pay the visitor fee ($10) and bus fee ($30) to reserve a seat on the bus. No booking is accepted until the payment is received.

*Looking to meet new people, explore nature, and have a good laugh along the way?*
This is your perfect Sunday plan! ๐
Weโre excited to invite you to our upcoming Melbourne Social Hike. A welcoming day out where the focus is all about fun, friendships and fresh air. Whether you come solo or bring a mate, youโll leave with new connections and memories!
\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-
**๐ Carpooling Makes It Happen**
At Social Hikes Australia, carpooling is a big part of what makes our hikes possible. Every extra seat means another person gets to join. Fewer cars, easier logistics, and a more social, fun start to the day.
Carpooling is also a great way to meet people before the hike even begins, share a few laughs, get to know each other, and arrive together. Itโs simple, social, and one of the best parts of the experience ๐ฟ
๐ก Carpool tickets are offered at a discounted price to encourage drivers to offer seats and make the hikes accessible for everyone.
\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-
๐ **For Drivers**
If youโve got spare seats, offering a lift makes a big difference. It helps others join, reduces parking stress and makes the ride more enjoyable from the start.
๐ **For Passengers**
Passengers are to contact drivers directly using the details provided in the carpool sheet (linked at the top of the description). The sheet shows information from carpooler tickets (Drivers Offering Seats).
โจ **Best practice:** Try to organise your ride before purchasing a ticket to avoid last-minute stress.
**Please note:** Drivers and passengers should stick to the arrangements they make. We do not recommend swapping drivers or cars after youโve agreed on a ride. If you do decide to change, please make sure all parties are clearly informed and agree to avoid confusion.
If a driver forgets, gets mixed up, or doesnโt pick you up, Social Hikes Australia (and your driver) are **not liable** for any inconvenience caused. For this reason, it is best to keep things simple with the driver you first arranged with.
โ ๏ธ **Important Notes**
* Please stick with the carpool arrangement you agree on.
* Avoid swapping drivers unless everyone is clearly informed and agrees.
* Petrol, parking, and other costs are not included in the ticket price. These should be discussed and agreed upon directly between the driver and passengers.
* Social Hikes Australia is not responsible for any issues with private carpool arrangements.
๐ **Pick-Up Info**
Drivers will share their preferred pick-up locations, such as major CBD train stations like Parliament, Richmond, South Yarra, Southern Cross, or North Melbourne.
For this hike, **the nearest station to the trail is** [Mernda ](https://maps.app.goo.gl/63B9Mu6DZeJXdkL4A "https://maps.app.goo.gl/63B9Mu6DZeJXdkL4A")or [Hurstbridge, ](https://maps.app.goo.gl/g6hs2T9Jotv3Jg6E6 "https://maps.app.goo.gl/g6hs2T9Jotv3Jg6E6")though drivers choose whichever spot is most convenient for them. Passengers can then join from those locations.
\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-

\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-
๐ **How It Works:**
After purchasing your ticket, youโll receive a link to our private Instagram group chat.
All final details will be shared there: Hike route, meet-up location and any last-minute updates.
Friendly pace, friendly faces! This hike is intentionally slowโmedium so everyone can enjoy and chat along the way.
\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-
๐ฝ๏ธ **Food Arrangement**
After our hike, we love keeping the good vibes rolling with a meal together. Weโll suggest a cafรฉ or restaurant thatโs usually on the way back toward the city, so itโs easy for everyone and avoids extra driving.
Itโs always a highlight of the day swapping stories from the trail, sharing laughs, and getting to know your fellow hikers even better over some good food.
Joining is optional, but most people stick around because itโs such a fun way to finish the adventure. Everyone just covers their own meal, and weโll confirm the spot in the Instagram group chat on the day.
When booking, youโll be asked if youโd like to join: Yes / No / Not Sure. The organisers will confirm the restaurant or bar on the day, based on feedback.
\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-
**โ ๏ธ Important:**
Must be 18+ years old to attend.
Hike at your own risk. You are responsible for your own safety and belongings.
Respectful, kind behaviour is a must. We are a positive and welcoming community.
Zero tolerance for any unwelcome behaviour. Weโre here to have fun, together!
For this hike, we recommend that all participants download the AllTrails app before the event. This will help you:
* View the trail map in advance
* Track your progress during the hike
* Stay on course in case you get separated from the group
Having AllTrails ensures everyone can enjoy the hike safely and confidently.
\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-

\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-
**๐ง Rain Policy**
If the forecast shows over 15 mm in 6 hours or 20+ mm during the day, we may postpone or adjust the hike to keep things safe and enjoyable. Slippery trails, flooding, and poor visibility are no fun or safe.
Weโll also reschedule for thunderstorms or if trails are still soaked from heavy rain the days before.
Light rain (under 5 mm/hour) is usually fine. Weโll check each hike case-by-case. Safety first ๐ฟ

Burkes Lookout Hike and Meditation Dandenong Ranges - Aroha
## Burkes Lookout Hike and Meditation
### Dandenong Ranges - Aroha
Are you an **adventurer or explorer** who keeps missing out on great hikes because you donโt have a car?

\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-
Leave the rhythm of the city behind and step into a slower, softer day โ where time stretches and nature quietly does its work.
Soon the forest surrounds us โ tall eucalyptus trees, fresh air, and a calm that invites you to slow down.
Our guided **hike** unfolds gently through peaceful bushland, around 9โ10 km of easy, flowing movement.
There is no rush โ just space to breathe deeper, notice more, and reconnect with yourself.
We pause at **breathtaking lookouts**, where the landscape opens wide and grounding.
In this stillness, we share a guided meditation โ simple, quiet, and deeply refreshing.
Later, we gather for a relaxed **picnic** with a fresh **fruit platter,** snacks, drinks, and easy conversation.
The day continues with lightness โ a friendly bocce game, laughter, and connection.
A gentle wander leads us to a **waterfall** and one more beautiful lookout to complete the experience.
Everything is taken care of โ transport, guided hike, snacks, drinks, coffee, tea, and gear.
Whether you come solo or with friends, youโll feel part of something warm and real.
๐ฟ Come as you are โ and leave feeling lighter, clearer, and quietly renewed.

Hike Blacklick Woods and The Canopy. Optional lunch after.
Over time I'm hoping to organize a hike to all the Franklin County Metro Parks. This is the first one so if you're interested jump in!
We'll start with the Canopy Walk, a cool feature of this park. Climb 100 stairs to the top - or take the elevator if stairs aren't your thing. At the top there are a bunch of things to play on - a rope bridge, a fireman pole that we can slide down - and more! About fifteen minutes there and we'll head to the natural trail, Buttonbush, Maple and Beech Trail for 2.2 miles then do a 1.7 mile loop on the paved Greenway Trail. We'll be passing our cars as we transition if you only want to do the first loop, or the second loop. Pace of around 3.5 mph but no one left behind.
If there is an interest we can grab lunch nearby afterward.
๐ฅ Lincoln Street Salsa (CANCELLED 4/11 But See You on 4/18 with Live Band!๐ฅ
