Cloud Native Vienna: February 2026 Meetup
Cloud Native Vienna: February 2026 Meetup
We'd like to invite you to our second installation for the Cloud Native Vienna Meetups in 2026! Again we'll have two deep-dive talks and time to network and chat with friends in the Viennese cloud native community. A big thank you to **willhaben** for hosting us and providing food and drinks! The meetup will take place at the **willhaben** (Bürozentrum 1, Landstraßer Hauptstraße 97-101, 1030 Wien). You can reach the office from inside the “Galleria Landstraße” mall. After entering through the main entrance, you’ll find the entrance to Bürozentrum 1 (a big red door) on your right, just past the chocolate shop. Take the elevator to floor 3A (look for the button with the willhaben logo). **Agenda:** * **17:30:** Doors Open & Networking * **17:55:** Welcome from the Organizers * **18:00:** **Talk 1:** Lukas Zainzinger – ***willhaben’s Journey to AWS MSK – A retrospective on Security, Costs, and Reality*** * **18:45:** Break & Refreshments * **19:00:** **Talk 2:** David Hondl – ***Monster-Sized Gitops; How to scale Argo CD*** * **19:45:** Open Networking We look forward to seeing you there! \-\-\- **Talks:** Lukas Zainzinger (willhaben) ***willhaben’s Journey to AWS MSK – A retrospective on Security, Costs, and Reality*** Migrating to managed services is rarely a plug-and-play experience. In this talk, we walk through Willhaben’s transition to Managed Kafka on AWS (MSK), sharing the authentic story of our integration rather than a textbook tutorial. We will dive into the specific hurdles we faced, focusing on how we engineered solutions for strict security and access control requirements. Additionally, we’ll discuss the financial aspect—specifically the pricing issues we encountered and the adjustments we made to solve them. This isn't a lecture on the "one right way" to do things, but a transparent look at the decisions, challenges, and learnings we gathered along our own journey. *Bio:* Lukas joined willhaben as a Platform SRE in 2024, following a career path that transitioned from Application Management to specialized DevOps roles at Raiffeisen Informatik, Shöpping and Siemens. Throughout his journey, he has developed a deep expertise in Kubernetes, Terraform and multiple Cloud Providers, always with an eye toward improving developer experience and system reliability. Currently a Master’s student at Hochschule Burgenland, Lukas bridges the gap between academic cloud research and real-world infrastructure challenges. He is particularly passionate about leveraging cloud-native and managed services to build robust, fault-tolerant infrastructure. David Hondl (Dynatrace) ***Monster-Sized Gitops; How to scale Argo CD*** Argo CD is one of the most popular and widely spread GitOps tools for Kubernetes and part of the backbone of many internal developer platforms. Also Argo CD can undoubtedly be a beast - and a huge one at that, as anyone scaling it for a production environment has probably seen in one way or another. But what if simply having a massive installation is not enough for us? What if we want to go even bigger from here, raise it to beyond what we thought feasible? Create more Applications, more ApplicationSets and render more resources at the same time? These are the questions that we will tackle in this talk. We are going to take a look at the different Argo CD components, from the frontend to the K8s controllers and how they behave at scale. We will examine how far they can bend and especially when and how they will break. Based on what we find, we are going to figure out how to tweak these parts in just the right way. And in the end we will hopefully be able to turn Argo CD into a bigger monster than it ever was. *Bio:* I'm a Cloud Engineer at Dynatrace and I'm super passionate about all things Platform Engineering and the cloud-native community. I use (and build) platforms to create better developer experiences and love to share my knowledge as a speaker as well as actively organize meetups around the topic.
Humming Traditions: SODAI - Straw, Form & Wind
Humming Traditions: SODAI - Straw, Form & Wind
An immersive workshop for adults, quiet hands, patient minds, and those who enjoy the slow rhythm of creation. 🌿Limited spots. The group is limited to 8 people. You can secure your place by purchasing a ticket through the link: https://doobeedoo-goodies.sumupstore.com/produkt/humming-traditions-sodai-straw-form-and-wind 🌿Date: 18th of February 🌿Time: 18:30—20:30 (it might take longer, depending on group tempo) 🌿Location: DooBeeDoo Goodies Atelier (Märzstraße 86, 1150 Vienna) Step into the gentle rhythm of creation and discover Sodai, traditional Lithuanian straw mobiles that once filled homes with balance, harmony, and quiet beauty. In this workshop, we will explore the geometry of air, learning how to prepare and string straw into delicate symmetrical forms that sway softly with every breeze. Piece by piece, your hands will follow the same patterns that generations before us used to invite order and peace into their homes. You’ll learn the basic techniques of straw preparation, stringing, and construction, and experience how a simple natural material can transform into something light, precise, and full of meaning. Together, we’ll move through a calm, meditative process, each gesture connecting thought, breath, and creation in quiet balance. By the end, you’ll leave not only with your own handmade Sodas, a timeless ornament carrying both heritage and your creative touch, but also with the knowledge, focus, and stillness that this ancient craft awakens. It feels less like finishing an object and more like completing a gentle ritual of patience and peace. To keep the experience personal and attentive, the group will be small and intimate, space is limited, so that every participant can receive individual guidance and care. This workshop invites you to slow down, focus, and reconnect — with your hands, your thoughts, and the quiet poetry of simple materials. No previous experience is needed, only patient hands, a calm mind, and an eye for quiet detail. 🌿🌿🌿 Humming Traditions is a series of creative workshops that explore the living, breathing essence of cultural practices. Each event invites participants to connect with ancient techniques, natural materials, and artistic expression in a hands-on, immersive experience. The series celebrates the quiet resonance of tradition, the subtle vibrations, textures, and forms that have carried meaning through centuries. Whether through sound, movement, or craft, Humming Traditions is about experiencing culture as a living, dynamic, and tactile art form. Each workshop stands on its own yet shares a common thread: creativity, mindfulness, and a connection to nature and heritage. Participants leave with newly learned skills, a calm mind, and a deeper appreciation for cultural artistry.

English: Since 1956, the Eurovision Song Contest has been much more than just a music competition. As a transnational media event, it reflects European moods, political divisions and pop culture developments as well as national self-promotion. For many in the LGBTQIA+ community, the ESC is also a central place for queer visibility – and thus a space for belonging, representation and negotiation. The exhibition ‘United by Queerness’ is dedicated to these tensions between diversity and nationalism, inclusion and exclusion. It follows a three-part spatial concept – from the living room to the arena to the stage – and shows how the ESC is experienced, celebrated and politically interpreted. Qwien thus makes the queer dimensions of the ESC visible and reflects on it as a pop-cultural phenomenon that continues to spark debate to this day.
Mittwoch Training
Mittwoch Training

[ONSITE] Evolving Modular Monoliths with architectural fitness functions
This event is for people who join the event in person at TechTalk (https://techtalk.at/). The system started over 10 years ago as a monolith, and many teams have developed within it, adding their flavors and understanding of the architectural patterns and the architecture trends at that time. This has led to maintenance issues and unclear guidance for new developers. We tackled parts of this by introducing tests that ensure the layering of vertical slices is consistent. Our solution is based on the following approaches: \* Fitness Functions from Evolutionary Architecture \* Ports & Adapters and Layered Architecture \* Approval Testing \* Architecture Tests We will cover these topics and the ideas we borrowed from them. The talk will also focus on the dynamics that these tests initiated within the team and another contributing team, leading to fruitful discussions, better shared understanding of the technical vision, and clear refactoring targets for developers. **About Tim Paulus:** As a developer, Tim faces the typical challenge of inheriting a software project with proven business value in its domain, yet needing to transform its architecture to meet new technical and organizational requirements. **About Patrick Säuerl:** Patrick is an experienced software architect and technical lead who has supported numerous teams and developers on their journey. With several years of experience in various projects, he has shifted his focus to technical leadership, team collaboration, and Domain-Driven Design (DDD). He places particular emphasis on collaborative modeling, with preferred methods including Specification by Example, User Story Mapping, Event Storming, and Event Modeling. Patrick promotes both intra-team collaboration and cross-team collaboration in scaled environments. Location, Food & Drinks are sponsored by TechTalk. **Timetable:** \- 18:00: Door opens at TechTalk \- 18:15: Intro \- 18:20: Talk starts \- 19:30: Food & Drinks \- 21:00: End Recordings will be available afterward at https://go.dotnetdevs.at/recordings This meetup is organized by DotNetDevs.at (https://dotnetdevs.at/). In this Meetup we'll explore the philosophic justifications for free speech and analyze the ideas and policies that threaten it. **POINTS OF DISCUSSION** * What is free speech? * What is its philosophic justification? * By what mechanism is free speech protected by the government? * Are there exceptions to free speech not protected by the first amendment, such as shouting "fire!" in a crowded theater? * Are "hate speech" and “mis-, dis- and malinformation," unique forms of speech that should be banned by private companies and/or the government? * Does the right to free speech conflict with the rights of companies like Chase, Facebook, PayPal, Etsy, and Airbnb to "de-platform" their users? * What are new threats to free speech that have arisen over the past two decades? **(Required viewing:** [The History Of The Censorship Industry](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFmln08Dq1U)) * What are the most concerning threats to free speech in 2026? After the event, any interested guests will be invited to continue the conversation at a nearby restaurant. \* \* \* \* \* \* \* Our Meetup location, Le Pain Quotidien, is a private business; so that our group remains welcome, please don't arrive with beverages purchased from outside, and please be willing to purchase at least one beverage and/or menu item from our waitress (rather than on the way in). **AN IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING NO-SHOWS** Unfortunately, there is a longstanding problem in our group with large numbers of people who sign up frivolously and neither cancel nor show up, leading to large waiting lists of others who lose their opportunity to attend. Food For Thought (F4T)
Food For Thought (F4T)
Food For Thought (F4T) is a friendly weekend brunch for people who enjoy discussing serious and "serious" topics with other smart, engaging people. We welcome everyone, whether you are a card-carrying philosopher or are maybe not quite sure who Plato was. The only qualification you need is that you enjoy thinking and eating and can do both at the same time! The F4T Brunch meets on the second and fourth Sunday of each month. We will have a new suggested topic each month, though wandering off topic is also allowed! (Good luck trying to stop that from happening.) These will span Science, Philosophy, Politics, History, Economics, and more. Attendees will be invited to propose the topic for the next brunch. We are a friendly group but we must restrict attendance to 12 members so we can all participate in a common conversation. And if you sign up, we expect you to show up! Two no-shows and you will be blocked from attending. To keep up-to-date on CFI-NYC events you should sign up for our monthly newsletter. Go to https://cfi-nyc.org/ and at the lower right click on Receive E-Mails. Topic for each event to be announced in the Comments section below...
