Morning Networking Referral's Meeting
Morning Networking Referral's Meeting
Hello! We meet monthly over coffee/tea along with fruit/pastries and we network and build better relationships with one another leading to the exchange of quality business referrals. Plan to bring some business cards and be prepared to speak to the group, sharing for about a minute as to what service/product you provide and what kind of referrals you're looking for. Connect with me via email at Rob@OffersYouMore.com or text 416-878-3462 to confirm your eligibility to join us. If your seat is already filled meaning a current member already does what you do, then unfortunately, you will not be able to attend. Once this is clarified, I will share the meeting address.
The Moral Nature of Gestation & the Political Significance of Birth
The Moral Nature of Gestation & the Political Significance of Birth
Recent work in the metaphysics of pregnancy tells us that foetuses are best conceived as body parts which will transform into independent organisms after birth. This picture raises several philosophical questions. One question is whether birth is as morally or politically relevant as it is biologically relevant. Another relevant question is: what, exactly, is the status of foetuses before birth? Are they moral persons with rights? Are they citizens? Or are they merely morally consider-able — that is, appropriate subjects of moral concern? In this presentation, I will attempt to make progress on these difficult yet pressing questions. Luara Ferracioli https://www.sydney.edu.au/arts/about/our-people/academic-staff/luara-ferracioli.html Associate Professor Department of Philosophy University of Sydney **About the Speaker:** My main areas of interest are the ethics of immigration, citizenship, and the family, broadly conceived. Sometimes I bring these areas of interest together, as when I discuss the ethics of family migration schemes, and the value of citizenship for children. My first book, [Liberal Self-Determination in a World of Migration](https://global.oup.com/academic/product/liberal-self-determination-in-a-world-of-migration-9780190056070?cc=au&lang=en&#), was published in 2022 by Oxford University Press. It provides a new theory of what justice requires from parents, both adoptive and biological. About the Centre for Ethics (http://ethics.utoronto.ca): The Centre for Ethics is an interdisciplinary centre aimed at advancing research and teaching in the field of ethics, broadly defined. The Centre seeks to bring together the theoretical and practical knowledge of diverse scholars, students, public servants and social leaders in order to increase understanding of the ethical dimensions of individual, social, and political life. In pursuit of its interdisciplinary mission, the Centre fosters lines of inquiry such as (1) foundations of ethics, which encompasses the history of ethics and core concepts in the philosophical study of ethics; (2) ethics in action, which relates theory to practice in key domains of social life, including bioethics, business ethics, and ethics in the public sphere; and (3) ethics in translation, which draws upon the rich multiculturalism of the City of Toronto and addresses the ethics of multicultural societies, ethical discourse across religious and cultural boundaries, and the ethics of international society. The Ethics of A.I. Lab at the Centre For Ethics recently appeared on a list of 10 organizations leading the way in ethical A.I.: https://ocean.sagepub.com/blog/10-organizations-leading-the-way-in-ethical-ai

No "financial gurus" are welcome.** Join us for a meetup where we share trading ideas, and connect with others who share a common interest in investing. Algorithmic trading is commonly used by large institutional investors and market makers, but it is also accessible to retail traders. It offers several advantages over manual or discretionary approaches—particularly in minimizing psychological errors that often impact human traders. Some of the topics we usually discuss: \- Reasons for investing \- Limitations of being a retail trader \- Practical tools: brokers\, APIs\, data sources\, real\-time implementation \- Brainstorming ideas: strategies that may be working today **Note this even is not sponsored or endorsed by any business where we are meeting. Cognitive Congress (in-person meeting)
Come share your views on philosophy, politics, popular opinion or whatever debatable topic that deserves more discussion. The Atheist Community of Toronto's Cognitive Congress hopes to provide a fertile discussion environment where attendees can debate topics chosen by attendees in self regulated groups. A brief overview of the format: - Cards will be provided to attendees to fill out if they have a topic or idea they wish to discuss and display the topic for others who would like to share their opinions. - Using the card to advertise your particular interest all attendees can either join an existing discussion group or splinter off and form their own discussion topics. - We encourage mobility at our meetups to ensure a mixing of ideas and views so don’t feel glued to your seat and encourage inclusion in discussions wherever possible. - We value civil discussion so please keep interruptions to a minimum and volume to a reasonable level.

Intro to GitHub Copilot: Your AI Pair Programmer - Chris Steele
**Important time note:** Please plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00 as the elevators lock after 6 and you'll need to message us and we'll need to come get you. The building address is 4450 Bridge Park The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400 **Abstract** GitHub Copilot is rapidly changing how developers write, understand, and maintain code. Powered by generative AI and deeply integrated into modern development environments, Copilot acts as an intelligent coding assistant, helping developers move faster while maintaining quality and focus. In this session, we’ll explore what GitHub Copilot is, how it works, and where it fits into a real-world developer workflow. We’ll break down what Copilot can (and cannot) do, where it can be used, and how licensing differs for individuals and organizations. Most importantly, this talk goes beyond theory with a live, hands-on demo showcasing Copilot inside the IDE and on GitHub, demonstrating how it can assist with code generation, refactoring, learning new APIs, and accelerating day-to-day development tasks. Designed for developers, technical leads, and engineering managers, this session provides a practical introduction to AI-assisted development, highlights best practices for getting value from Copilot, and closes with guidance on how to continue learning and evolving alongside this rapidly advancing tool. Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of how GitHub Copilot can enhance productivity, improve developer experience, and fit into modern software teams today, not someday. **YouTube Link** TBA
