The Central Maryland Rock and Mineral Collectors Exchange Monthly Meetup
**CMRMCE** meetup
Meetings start at 7 pm
Meeting address:
6425 Abel St
Elkridge MD 21075
Our meetings are always free and open to everyone.
Our meetings are informal, and we tend to discuss whatever anyone has brought with them to show as well. We also discuss local rockhounding ideas.
Even though we usually plan to wrap up around 9 pm, most of us are usually still chatting at 10. It is amazing the amount of knowledge that we share with each other and the body of knowledge that we have as a group. All of our meetings have been great (even when only a few show up).
I do ask that you RSVP for our meeting, but... if you haven’t RSVP'd and would still like to come to the meeting – please do. The RSVP helps the meeting by showing others that we do have a group and that there will be a meeting that night. If you RSVP’d yes and can’t make it, that’s OK too (you can always change your RSVP at any time).
I hope that you will consider attending (newbie or Guru). Our group has been meeting for over 10 years now. We have over 350 total members and we’ve maintained a 5-star rating for our meetings. I believe that you will enjoy yourself and we will enjoy your company as well.
As always, everyone is invited to our meetings (including your non-Rockhound guests). Our meeting size averages about 4 to 9 members per meeting, but we have had as many as 14 attend.
I hope you can make it, we are very informal, and if you can, bring something (rocks, fossils, **yard rock**, book, map, or **whatever**) that you would like to discuss.
I truly look forward to meeting you.

Doubles Volleyball - Competitive BB+/A
Let's get together to play some competitive doubles volleyball.
**COST**: FREE
**Court Type**: Outdoor grass
**Minimum Skill Requirements**: BB+ (click [here](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PojSi4qdlRsv1msCHhvpQ43iDc4FfzQwpWCc3kafVMY/mobilebasic) for details)
Attention:
1. This event is **NOT on a first come-first serve** basis and players with higher skill level and players who can bring a net/ball will get priority over others on the wait list.
2. Since skill levels are **self-reported**, some new attendees may not meet the expected level. For doubles, we encourage you to choose a partner you can enjoy the game with, and since this a competitive event, it is okay if you make a strong team and win all the games.
3. Each person must help set up and take down one net, leaving some nets unset for latecomers.
4. Please answer all questions, so it's helpful for us to organize the event.

On Quantizing General Relativity
Title: On Quantizing General Relativity
Date: Jan 17 2026 Noon -14:00 EST
Summary: Why has a century passed without anyone developing a persuasive, broadly accepted, and experimentally predictive unified theory of quantum mechanics and general relativity? In this presentation, Terry will begin by explaining how Einstein’s post-1911 adoption of the Minkowski concept of an infinitely smooth spacetime fabric destroyed any possibility of such a merger by making spacetime infinitely classical, and thus inherently incompatible with the quantum reality of all forms of matter and energy. Next, Terry will discuss how the concept of infinitely smooth spacetime, in combination with similarly cost-indifferent field theories, wasted a century of theorizing by loading empty space with non-existent, asymptotically infinitely energies that exist only briefly in very-high-energy physics. Finally, Terry will discuss how recognizing that quantum observation is nothing more than acceleration. Terry reframes general relativity as the remnant of relationships remaining after massive observation creates localized instances of spacetime.
Speaker: Terry Bollinger is a computer scientist with BS, MS, and professional degrees from the Missouri University of Science and Technology.

Azure CBUS January: Learn Infrastructure-as-Code Through Minecraft
## Learn Infrastructure-as-Code (the FUN Way) — Through Minecraft 🎮☁️
**Joint Meetup: Azure CBUS × Columbus HashiCorp User Group × DevOps Columbus**
What if learning Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code didn’t feel like a whitepaper… but more like a game?
Join us for a joint Azure CBUS, Columbus HashiCorp User Group, and DevOps Columbus meetup where **Mark Tinderholt** \(Principal Architect\, Microsoft Azure \| HashiCorp Ambassador \| “The Azure Terraformer”\) shows how **Minecraft** can be used as a surprisingly powerful way to understand real-world Infrastructure-as-Code concepts.
In this session, Mark will demonstrate how Terraform and Azure can be used to provision, configure, and manage Minecraft servers—while teaching the same patterns you’d use for production cloud infrastructure.
### What we’ll cover
* Infrastructure-as-Code fundamentals using **Terraform**
* Provisioning real infrastructure on **Azure**
* Applying **IaC best practices** (immutability, repeatability, versioning)
* How playful environments like Minecraft make complex concepts *click*
* Why learning through experimentation beats click-ops every time
### Who should attend
* Developers, platform engineers, and cloud engineers
* Terraform users (new or experienced)
* Anyone curious about Infrastructure-as-Code but tired of boring examples
* Minecraft fans who want to see it used in a totally unexpected way
No prior Minecraft experience required—just curiosity and a willingness to learn infrastructure the fun way.
Come for the blocks, stay for the Terraform. 🧱➡️📐

Chaos Monkeys, Open Telemetry, and .NET Aspire: Taming Complexity in Modern Apps
**Chaos Monkeys, Open Telemetry, and .NET Aspire: Taming Complexity in Modern Apps**
.NET Aspire is far more than just a sleek dashboard for wowing your boss and co-workers. It's also a gateway to increased observability with open telemetry, better fault tolerance to fend off chaos monkeys, and a drastically improved onboarding experience for new developers.
This session will explore Microsoft's latest guidance for building distributed, cloud-first applications, with practical strategies for enhancing simpler existing apps. You'll discover the inner workings of Aspire, from installation to customization, and learn how it streamlines integration with performance boosters like Redis. Most importantly, you'll see why scalable microservices architectures can be challenging—and how Aspire helps simplify the journey.
**Presenter:** Lee Richardson, Microsoft MVP
**Pizza starts at 6. Presentation starts around 6:30.**
Intro to GitHub Copilot: Your AI Pair Programmer - Chris Steele
**Important time note:** Please plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00 as the elevators lock after 6 and you'll need to message us and we'll need to come get you.
The building address is 4450 Bridge Park
The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400
**Abstract**
GitHub Copilot is rapidly changing how developers write, understand, and maintain code. Powered by generative AI and deeply integrated into modern development environments, Copilot acts as an intelligent coding assistant, helping developers move faster while maintaining quality and focus.
In this session, we’ll explore what GitHub Copilot is, how it works, and where it fits into a real-world developer workflow. We’ll break down what Copilot can (and cannot) do, where it can be used, and how licensing differs for individuals and organizations. Most importantly, this talk goes beyond theory with a live, hands-on demo showcasing Copilot inside the IDE and on GitHub, demonstrating how it can assist with code generation, refactoring, learning new APIs, and accelerating day-to-day development tasks.
Designed for developers, technical leads, and engineering managers, this session provides a practical introduction to AI-assisted development, highlights best practices for getting value from Copilot, and closes with guidance on how to continue learning and evolving alongside this rapidly advancing tool.
Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of how GitHub Copilot can enhance productivity, improve developer experience, and fit into modern software teams today, not someday.
