Personal Values & Integrity, The Importance Of.
Personal Values & Integrity, The Importance Of.
If you are honest with yourself and with others, you can't help but do well in life. A relationship exists between your own self-respect - how you look at your own personal values - and how successful you are. A person who is honest, outspoken and respects himself will get more done and accomplish his goals far easier than someone who is dishonest, introverted and withdrawn. Now you will learn the underlying reasons why people withdraw from others and life or feel a loss of personal integrity.
Shut Up & Write!® at Melbourne Connect
Shut Up & Write!® at Melbourne Connect
We are a multi-disciplinary group of PhDs and academic staff who write together regularly and help one another to achieve our writing goals through supportive community, focus and a structure that works. We welcome anyone who wants to get some writing done in a collegial, supportive, encouraging environment. You don’t have to be from University of Melbourne (you don’t have to be from university at all!). We use the Pomodoro method, which means we write in timed intervals of silence, then chat and catch up for 5 mins and repeat the cycle. Arrive when you like, leave when you like. The goal is to keep our writing projects progressing and reduce the isolation that can be part of the academic and/or writing life. **Session Outline:** Welcome: 9.00-9.05 (5 mins) Pomodoro 1: 9.05-9.30 (25 mins). Break: 9.30-9.35 (5 mins) Pomodoro 2: 9.35-10.00 (25 mins) Break: 10.00-10.05 (25 mins) Pomodoro 3: 10.05-10.55 (50 mins) Break: 10.55-11.05 (10 mins) Pomodoro 4: 11.05-11.30 (25 mins) **A note about the format** We don’t host critiques or readings. These events are a safe space for writers of all skill levels and genres to work on their craft, so no one will read or critique your writing. For our full event schedule, visit [https://shutupwrite.com](https://www.shutupwrite.com). **Other Important Details:** WiFi name/password: There is free public wifi available at the Melbourne Connect Superfloor (speak to the concierge for details). Banff Mountain Film Festival at The Astor | Adventure Films Night
Banff Mountain Film Festival at The Astor | Adventure Films Night
Let’s meet up for the Banff Mountain Film Festival 2026 at The Astor Theatre in St Kilda. The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour brings together a selection of short films focused on adventure, mountain culture, outdoor sports, exploration, and remote places. Expect stories involving things like climbing, trail running, mountain biking, skiing, paddling, and other outdoor adventures. We’ll meet outside The Astor Theatre at 6:15pm, then head inside together before the 7:00pm film start. Seating is not allocated, so we’re meeting a bit early to try to secure good seats and hopefully sit together as a group. This is a relaxed, low-pressure social night. You’re welcome to come by yourself, say hello before the film, enjoy the screening, and leave afterwards. If people are interested, we can also grab a quick dinner or food nearby after the screening. **Who this is for** This should suit people who enjoy: * Adventure films and outdoor stories * Hiking, climbing, cycling, skiing, paddling, travel, or mountain culture * A relaxed cinema night with a small social group * Coming solo and meeting a few new people in a low-pressure way You do not need to be an extreme adventurer to join — just some curiosity about the outdoors and adventure films is enough. **Links** * Meetup start point: [https://maps.app.goo.gl/eKr97z7vggirRrxLA](https://maps.app.goo.gl/eKr97z7vggirRrxLA) * Australian website: [https://banffaustralia.com.au/](https://banffaustralia.com.au/) * Ticket website: [https://events.humanitix.com/banff-mountain-film-festival-2026-astor-tues-12-may-7pm](https://events.humanitix.com/banff-mountain-film-festival-2026-astor-tues-12-may-7pm) * YouTube trailer: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqD7DCQllyw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqD7DCQllyw) **Timeline** * 6:15pm — Meet outside The Astor Theatre * 6:20pm–6:30pm — Say hello and head inside together to try to secure good seats * 7:00pm — Banff Mountain Film Festival screening starts * Around 10:00pm — Screening ends / Meetup officially ends * Afterwards — Optional quick dinner or food nearby if people are interested **Tickets / cost** Everyone needs to buy their own ticket in advance. A Meetup RSVP does not include entry to the film. Please only RSVP as “Going” once you are planning to buy or have bought your ticket. **Important ticket notes:** * Seating is not allocated, so we’re meeting at 6:15pm to try to secure good seats. * Tickets may sell out. * The event page says no refunds. * Please check the ticket page for the latest ticket price and availability. * Please make sure you are booking the correct session: The Astor, Tuesday 12 May 2026, 7:00pm. **Bring** * Your event ticket / ticket confirmation * A light jacket, depending on the weather * Money/card if you want food afterwards **Important notes** * Please buy your own ticket in advance. * Seating is not allocated, so please arrive on time if you want to sit with the group. * If your plans change, please update your RSVP to “Not Going” so numbers stay clear. **Optional after-plan** After the screening, we can grab a quick dinner, snack, or drink nearby if people are interested. Understanding Our Support Needs (And Each Other's)
Understanding Our Support Needs (And Each Other's)
Neurodivergent brains come with their own operating manuals — but most of us were never handed ours. Some of us run hot on sensory input, others stall out on transitions, some need movement to think, others need silence to function. The tricky part is that our needs are often invisible, even to ourselves, until something tips us over. This month at Neurospicy Bayside, we're slowing down to look at two questions: * What support do I actually need to feel okay and do my best work? * What might the people around me need that I've never thought to ask about? We'll talk about the kinds of accommodations that exist (formal and informal — at work, at home, in social spaces), share what's worked and what hasn't, and gently map out where each of us tends to struggle. The goal isn't to fix anyone. It's to build a richer vocabulary for our own needs and a more compassionate lens for the people in our lives who might be quietly white-knuckling things we'd never guess. Bring yourself as you are. Stim, doodle, pace, listen, share as much or as little as feels right. Fidgets and ear defenders welcome. There's no expectation to disclose anything you don't want to. Looking forward to seeing you there.

WALK:Williamstown Beach, Coastal Reserve, & Historic Area
WALK:Williamstown Beach, Coastal Reserve, & Historic Area
Enjoy Williamstown Botanic Gardens, Williamstown Beach beach, a Williamstown Sunday ***Craft*** Market in historical heritage side. With short break at Kiosk or Cafe near beach during walk. \*\*_Date Changed During walk (or towards ends of walk, but not Meetup end) visit *Sunday Craft Market* near Gem Pier, on shops & historic buildings side of Williamstown. Forecast TBA (16C & rain if Sun; 22C partly cloudy if change to this Saturday). Meet Outside Williamstown Station (last station on the the line\*). Under Big Tree just Outside Station entrance. (Is only 1 Platform here). Meet 12:30-12:40pm. My Phone 0402816644; Best to phone/text. We'll be walking past Williamstown Beach Station during walk, if any persons wish to join us, but not for the Full Meetup/Walk. 2 mins by train back to Williamstown Station (if u drove), or 15 mins walk. Route/plan may vary depending on temp (if gets quite hot, we'll go to village side, with plenty shaded places); OR if weather changes. We may walk early or later during walk to Sunday *Craft* Market (open till 4); all Craft Market items are Created, Handmade, Home Grown or Baked. (*Different market & different location - Alongside Nelson Place/Near Gem Pier - to one we went to last time)* We'll spend about 30-45 minutes there — Check out stalls, grab a coffee or cold drink. And some food, or treats :) to take home. Bring shopping bag or something to put any purchases, if you do, in. If we do market near towards end of walk; after *official Meetup end, we can go to best, most range, icecream & sorbet place in Melbourne.* For those who wish to leave; is easy 7 mins walk to Williamstown Station. Another option, *for yourself,* info re Williamstown to St Kilda Ferry is below As well as visit to Market we'll walk to & through the Park like Botanic Gardens. We'll stop here briefly. Also Toilets less busy & bit cleaner available here, than along beach. (No Toilets at Market, but some at Station/Meet Point) We'll also walk along the foreshore path near the beach. Group can choose to stop at the on foreshore kiosk/cafe — if weather is pleasant & not too breezy or fresh or too hot (__C forecast), OR to go to proper but casual cafe, with beach & bay views. After our almost final stop, we can walk to/via either Williamstown Beach Station (or, Williamstown Station). Those who drove can easily get train 1 station back to Williamstown Stn, if have a myki, OR credit card (new) Option tap may be also available. Or if some people wish, can walk back to Williamstown Station, BUT it will mean, total duration of event will be longer than posted/scheduled. OR, after Meetup/Walk & Cafe some may like to take Ferry to St Kilda — $22 one-way (/$34 return if wish to, if Home is in Williamstown area). I've put duration as generous 2.5 hours (to allow for longer time at market, & at kiosk OR cafe). But we can finish earlier, if you wish. Total actual walking time/distance: approx 75-90 minutes/4-5 kms. Remember to wear hat, sunscreen & bring water. This Walk/Wander is also posted on/combined with 2 more groups; event/meetup is Open to all (18+ - under 18s may attend with an adult). A train arrives at 12:26. Intention is walk to start by/before 12:45pm! If are late getting there; or on next train (arrives 12:46) please post comment on Meetup. I'll post comment which way we go, to start. But may not respond promptly to comment msg, as may be pointing out some items & explaining re them My Phone 0402816644. Best to phone/text, than msg me via Meetup. Public Transport: Take (direct) Train from Flinders St Station or Southern Cross Station, to Williamstown Station. Or take a train from (the new) Town Hall Station or State Library Station, & change at Footscray Station, to Platform 6 for Williamstown Line train. \*If unfamiliar with the Williamstown Line, last 3 stations are: North Williamstown, Williamstown Beach, Williamstown Station/line ends. Mentioning, as some general public get off train at Williamstown Beach Station when meant to go Williamstown Station. Parking/Driving: Recommend parking in Hammer St, & then walk around corner (along Ann St), to Williamstown Station area. There's a few only unrestricted parking spots directly outside the Station, but doubtful if a good place to park, for a few hours. There's the Railway travelers carparking area 35 metres from the station. Finding Me/Us: Exit Williamstown Station (only 1 exit/1 platform) & look to the left, where there's a big tree. Or if drove, go to Ann St (on north side of Station) & walk past Station. [\*Please Note: I posted/edited/copy-modified quickly details (from last walk in Williamstown); please check details in a day or 2, for any alterations]. (And I will condense so easier to read it all).

COUNT monthly event: Kitchen service at Van Buren Center's shelter
COUNT monthly event: Kitchen service at Van Buren Center's shelter
Come assist Van Buren Shelter (https://ymcacolumbus.org/locations/vanburen) staff in serving dinners and cleaning up on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Dinner for the women is 5-6 pm and for the families is 6:15-7:15 pm. There is ample free parking available in the shelter's lot. The recommended area to park is in green in the image above. There will be a new entrance for the time being. We are asking all volunteers to enter through the Donation Dock door, the orange mark on the image above. This door is located between the Single Adults and Family Shelter. You will see 2 large garage doors with a large green trash compactor in the center. Please head to the closest garage door to the building wall, with a ramp leading up. There, you will see a door with a sign stating instructions on how to enter the building. Please ring the doorbell, and a staff member will come and escort you into the building. If a staff member takes longer than 5 minutes, please call the front desk at 614-689-2020. This is a new process for us, and we do not want to keep you waiting! We appreciate your patience as we navigate this temporary change. The shelter needs a volunteer count the day before the event so sign-up ends Monday at 4:50 PM. Afterwards some of us go to the Omnipresent Atheists Weekly Meetup in progress to have a bit to eat or drink (http://www.meetup.com/omnipresentatheists/). Volunteers must be 14 or older. Since we will be working around families, the YMCA does not permit volunteering by individuals with convictions for violent or sexual crimes. The YMCA reserves the right to run background checks on volunteers. For questions, comment on this page or contact: Andrew, awhit12@yahoo.com, (614)937-5802 (cell). Please let Andrew know if you volunteer anytime other than our COUNT events so that he can count your hours toward our service record.
