Drumming Circle & Uplifting Discussion 🪘✨🌍
Drumming Circle & Uplifting Discussion 🪘✨🌍
**NO MUSICAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED** **About Drum & Soul** The only intention behind Drum & Soul is to help create vibrant, healthier, and more united communities – together. We believe art is the best channel for that purpose. This is more than a drumming circle. It is a practical space where we do two things at once: we develop useful skills and cultivate inner qualities, and we help others grow those same qualities. Through rhythms from many cultures, collective singing and meaningful conversation around a focused theme, we practise skills that strengthen both the individual and the community. **Why come** If you want to expand your expressive capacity, practise listening with depth, learning to lead or join others who take community wellbeing to heart, Drum & Soul is for you. This is a place to try courageously, to learn deeply, and to contribute authentically. Everyone is welcome regardless of background or musical experience. If you feel shy in groups, that is completely natural and we got you. A few of us will gently hover around newcomers like butterflies, offering a warm welcome and quiet space so nobody feels out of place. Many people tell us they arrived nervous but soon felt as if they had stepped into a family home. **How it works** At the start of each session we centre with a short breathing exercise, followed by a demonstration of simple rhythms, then break into small groups for guided conversation. Then we’ll have a potluck meal and continuing our conversation and connection over a break. Finally we move into collective jamming and improvisation. **Typical meeting flow** 1. 🫱🏽‍🫲🏻 Arrival & social time – 15 min 2. 🙋🏻‍♀️ Welcome, check in and centring – 15 min 3. 🪘 Call & Respond **Drumming & demo** – 15 min 4. 💬 Facilitated **Discussion** on the Theme (groups of five-or so) – 20 min 5. 🦋 Potluck **dinner** & social time afterwards – 40 min 6. 🕺🏽 Open **Jamming** with multiple instruments – 30 min *This outline is flexible and may shift to suit the group and the space.* **Logistics & what to bring** We meet in a large beautiful space. Drums are available on a first come first served basis. We also provide plenty of small percussion instruments so every hand can play. You are welcome to bring your own drum or instrument. After our time of drumming and dialogue, we share a simple potluck dinner, an extension of our circle where conversation continue to flourish over nourishing food. Feel free to bring whatever you love to share. **Cost & contributions** This is a free event. As a community we are encouraged to contribute even a small snack to share with everyone, or pay what or if you can, to cover the costs of refreshments and material, by E-transfer to: **hooshmandnyc@gmail.com** – Contributions are optional. **Helpful notes** No prep needed. Doors open at 3:45 p.m. Please arrive by then so we can start at 4:00 p.m. sharp and keep the flow. Location and any last minute updates are posted on Meetup and in our WhatsApp group. We recommend joining the WhatsApp group (ask us for the link at the venue) for quick notices. **Why this matters** The world is ill, and is aching for a lasting remedy. We believe our sacred mission is to nurture one another, define our roles in service to our fellow humans, and become living temples of unity. A meaning growth unfolds through both self‑discovery and collective effort, and one cannot truly flourish without the other. Come open and prepared to learn, to offer your gifts, and to be strengthened by the power of community. *This ad is also posted in other groups* 📷 Follow us on [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/artsoultoronto/) 🎥 [A glimpse from one of our sessions](https://youtu.be/ejfeV1PF-0k)

In-Person Writing Sprints
In-Person Writing Sprints
Struggling with motivation and focus as you hammer away on your manuscript at home? Want to join a community of writers as we embrace the joys and pains (mostly pains) of writing together? Bring your laptop, pen & paper, old-school typewriter, or futuristic writing gadget, and join an enthusiastic community of science fiction and fantasy writers as we work on our current projects in the same space. The format will be similar to our online writing sprints: 30-minute blocks of focused, quiet writing time (the sprints), interspersed with breaks where we can chat, ask questions, and share our writing experiences.
Free event - 🚶‍♂️❄️ Downtown Toronto Walk + The PATH (Mostly Indoors!) ❄️🚶‍♀️
Free event - 🚶‍♂️❄️ Downtown Toronto Walk + The PATH (Mostly Indoors!) ❄️🚶‍♀️
### 🚶‍♂️❄️ Downtown Toronto Walk + The PATH (Mostly Indoors!) ❄️🚶‍♀️ **Sunday\, February 1 \| 10:00 AM – approx\. 12:30 PM** **Free Event** Winter can make it tough to stay active in Toronto. Often late Jan/early Feb gives us the coldest days of they year. Join Nick for a **downtown walk that transitions into a long, fascinating journey through the PATH system**, keeping us mostly warm and indoors while still exploring the city on foot. 📍 **Meeting Point** **10:00 AM sharp** Wellesley Station — **right by the PRESTO kiosk** Look for **Nick and the Meetup sign** *** ### 🗺️ The Route We’ll start outdoors at Wellesley Station and walk **west**, then **south**, before entering the PATH system. From there, the walk becomes largely **indoors** as we continue **south through the PATH all the way to the lake**, finishing at **10 Bay Street**, right where the PATH meets the waterfront. **Estimated walking time:** \~2.5 hours at a relaxed, conversational pace **End time:** around **12:30 PM** *** ### 👀 What We’ll See Along the Way This isn’t just a walk — it’s a guided urban exploration: * Older downtown parks with **recent upgrades and improvements** * **Brand-new parks** — some finished, some still under construction * A **refreshed and facelifted section of the PATH** * The **relocated bus terminal** * A surprisingly **sad indoor mall** * And plenty of lesser-known downtown details you’ve probably walked past without noticing *** ### 🏙️ A Little PATH History The **PATH** is the largest underground pedestrian network in the world, stretching **over 30 kilometres** beneath downtown Toronto. What began in the early 1900s as simple underground connections between buildings slowly evolved into a climate-controlled city beneath the city — linking office towers, transit hubs, shopping areas, food courts, hotels, and attractions. Love it or hate it, the PATH is a uniquely Toronto creation — confusing, practical, occasionally bizarre, and endlessly fascinating. Nick has even led **curated private tours of the PATH**, featured in *NOW Toronto*: 👉 [https://nowtoronto.com/lifestyle/toronto-walk-exploring-the-path-with-nicolas-bello/](https://nowtoronto.com/lifestyle/toronto-walk-exploring-the-path-with-nicolas-bello/) *** ### 🧤 What to Bring * A **bag or backpack** to carry your coat, hat, and gloves — we’ll be indoors for long stretches * Comfortable walking shoes *** ### 🐕 Accessibility & Notes * **Only certified service animals** are permitted on this walk * This is a **free event** * Please **respect your RSVP**, but feel free to **just show up** if your schedule is uncertain *** Come explore Toronto from **street level to underground**, learn some history, and enjoy a winter walk that doesn’t freeze you solid. Data & Analytics Wednesday - Compensation Data
Data & Analytics Wednesday - Compensation Data
**People Analytics 101: Making Sense of Compensation Data** Compensation data is one of the most widely used and widely misunderstood forms of people analytics. The session will cover where compensation data comes from, including market pricing data, internal payroll data, and benchmarking sources, and how companies think about structuring and analyzing that information. We will explore how compensation data is leveraged to set salary ranges, manage internal equity, support hiring and retention, and align pay with business strategy. A portion of the session will address common data challenges and limitations, such as market noise, inconsistent job matching, and incomplete datasets, while keeping the primary focus on practical use rather than technical depth. The session will also look ahead at where the space is going, including the growing impact of pay transparency laws, expanding pay equity requirements, and emerging regulations in the US and Europe that require organizations to report on gender and pay gaps. The goal is to give attendees a clear mental model for how compensation analytics works today and why getting it right is becoming increasingly critical. (note: we are back at Rev1 this month!) **About Our Speaker** [Alex Moore](https://www.linkedin.com/in/alexscottmoore/) is the founder of [Moore Cooperative](https://moorecooperative.com/), where he advises organizations on compensation strategy, pay equity, and people analytics. His work focuses on helping organizations like the Ohio Supreme Court design, analyze, and communicate compensation systems that are data-informed, defensible, and aligned with organizational goals. Alex lives in Granville, Ohio and has three little kiddos. More info at [cbusdaw.com](https://cbusdaw.com)

With very few exceptions, no shows or cancelations within 1 week of the event will not be eligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve. THANK YOU: This CMG Gives Back event provides an opportunity for YOU to get involved in helping others! Benefits go well beyond the help we give to others. Volunteering provides a wide range of personal benefits, including positive effects on mental and physical health, reduced stress/depression/anxiety, increased happiness and improved purpose, life-satisfaction and personal well-being! Plus, the opportunity to get involved, connect with others and help those in need. PARTNER AGENCY: This event is hosted by Lutheran Social Services (LSS), which serves thousands of people in need each day in 27 Ohio counties by addressing the four core societal issues of food, shelter, safety and healing. LSS offers food through the LSS Food Pantries, housing and supportive services through LSS Faith Mission and LSS Faith Mission of Fairfield County homeless shelters, domestic violence services through LSS CHOICES for Victims of Domestic Violence, senior living and health care, affordable housing communities, and other services that uplift families and strengthen communities.
