TOG Watch Night: The Secret Life of Components (Tim Hunkin)
TOG Watch Night: The Secret Life of Components (Tim Hunkin)
We’re kicking off a new bi-weekly Monday Watch Night at TOG. We’ll watch an episode of Tim Hunkin’s “The Secret Life of Components” together, then have a relaxed Q&A and discussion afterwards.
This is a friendly, low-pressure way to learn the kind of practical tips you normally only pick up through years of making, fixing, and building. Perfect for beginners, makers, repair folks, and engineers who enjoy the practical side of components and mechanisms.
How it works
\- Watch together \(one episode per night\)
\- Q&A and chat after: questions\, examples\, tangents\, and “how would we do this at TOG?”
\- If you miss a week\, no stress\. Watch it at home and come along to the next one
First session
\- Monday 26 January
\- Episode 1: Chain
\- Free and open to all
\- TOG Hackerspace \(Dublin 12\, D12 CF6V\)

**Talk: Skill Estimation, Agents and the Condorcet Jury theorem.**
The Condorcet Jury Theorem promises that groups are smarter than individuals — add more voices, get closer to the truth. But the theorem has a poison pill: it only works when people think independently. In this talk we'll use PyMC to build a Bayesian model that stress-tests collective decision-making, simulating how shared training, correlated thinking, and organisational "alignment" can quietly destroy the engine of collective intelligence. The results raise uncomfortable questions about what happens when everyone's reasoning runs through the same foundation model. If you're interested in Bayesian modelling, probabilistic programming, or just want a principled way to think about the epistemic cost of your AI toolchain, this one's for you.

Instead of another slide deck on CRUD, we’ll turn the MongoDB CRUD Operations Skill Badge into a live, IDE-based learning experience. You’ll see how to use agentskills.io to give a copilot agent concrete MongoDB teaching skills so it can coach you through queries, inserts, updates, and deletes right where you write your code.

📚Book Swap And Social - Treat Your S(h)elf 📚
📚 There are always books that live within ourselves. Some books are living rent-free in the house. We need space for new books and to let go of some old ones. In reality, space to accumulate books in Dublin is only a dream. You may be a tsundoku (book hoarder). And want to let go a few books :-)
This will also provide an opportunity to refresh our literary tastes, book review from the participants, and declutter our bookshelves. ✨
So let's exchange books and discuss them together! 💬
📋 **Guidelines**
* Please bring your used or new books (plural, please!) to swap. Engage in discussions with other participants about the books.
* If you read e-books, I understand your situation; however, you are welcome to join us and take home a few books for your reading.
📝 **How does this work?**
Bring the books you'd like to swap and place them on the **book swap table**. Then pick the book you like and continue the conversations with the particpants.
**What happens if no one picks my book?**
You can take the book back with you or leave it in the table. As an organizer, I will take the book and donate to the charity bookshop or place in the little library like one in Pearse Street Dart Station.
Feel free to walk around and explore what other participants have brought. When you spot something that interests you, grab it before someone else does! Trust me—there's always friendly competition for the best reads.
**Don't forget to bring a bag to carry your new books home!**
We highly encourage you to move between tables and strike up conversations with fellow book lovers. These discussions about literature and reading recommendations are often the highlight of the event!
⚠️**Something Happened?**
If something unpleasant happened to you, it may happen to others. It may be small but don't hesitate to reach out to me.
🔍 **How to find us?**
* When I reach the venue, I'll leave a comment in the meetup where the group is seated. Normally, the booking is in my name, so you can ask the staff for the group.
* If you're unable to find us, leave a comment in the meetup page. I'll be able to guide you.
As an organizer, I'm always looking for feedback about the event and suggestions for new events, so feel free to suggest ideas to me. 💡
I hope to see you all soon! 😊
Agentic commerce developer workshop - Dublin
**Join us for a hands-on workshop where you'll build an agentic commerce solution and explore how AI agents can discover products and complete payments using Stripe.**
**About**
Experience a hands-on workshop designed for developers interested in the future of AI-driven commerce and agentic payments.
This workshop is the very first time this content has ever been delivered. It is a pilot workshop for Stripe Sessions, and attendees will get early access to technology and workflows that are still very new inside Stripe.
The way customers discover and purchase products is shifting from traditional search to LLM-powered agents. In this workshop, you’ll customize an AI agent to become an intelligent shopping assistant capable of discovering products and completing transactions.
**Through practical exercises, you will:**
* Customize an AI agent for commerce workflows
* Implement Shared Payment Tokens (SPT) using the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP)
* Enable secure payment credential handoff from an AI agent to Stripe
* Process payments and perform risk evaluation through Stripe
* Build a complete end-to-end agentic commerce experience
Because this is a pilot workshop, the content is evolving and highly experimental. Participants will be among the first developers anywhere to build an agentic commerce integration with Stripe.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a fully functioning agentic commerce solution complete with code, equipping you with the skills to build next-generation AI-powered buying experiences.
**Attendance & Invitations**
⚡ This is a small, invite-only workshop designed for a very limited group of developers.
To keep the session highly interactive, attendance is restricted to a small number of participants, and admission is **by invitation only**.
To request an invitation:

2. We will review all waitlist requests
3. Selected participants will be moved to the confirmed list
4. You will receive confirmation once your spot is approved.
**Please wait for confirmation before making plans — only confirmed attendees will be admitted.**
This approach allows us to create a focused, collaborative workshop environment and ensure the best possible experience for participants.

Arrive, grab coffee and refreshments, and make sure you're set up and ready to go.

CBusData - Discover the Power of Window Functions
Window functions have nothing to do with the Windows operating system but provide a “window” to a result set when used in SQL queries. They are powerful, set-based methods to view data in unexpected ways. Window functions provide easy, set-based solutions to solve some common problems:
* Using running totals
* Performing operations in intervals
* Identifying data gaps and islands
* Performing aggregates without losing detail
Many people are confused by window functions and do not know how to use them properly. This session will explore window functions, how they work, and how to use them. Demonstrations with several examples will solidify how window functions can simplify queries and make them more powerful.

We're going to try a new dojo location for a few weeks and see how it works
Dojos are informal Python group study sessions where everyone interested in Python gathers to learn about Python, help others with Python, or just hang out. Everyone is welcome from Python beginners to experts. Bringing a laptop is encouraged (we'll have extension cords and power strips). If there's something you want to learn leave a comment on this invite so we can plan ahead.
We're looking for topic suggestions and people interested in presenting at our monthly meetings. To this end we've set up a survey form at [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/15eBKF1nQQ2XS5gzD4rvhVRHMBEj7lJtHuA9wXupS3Uc](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/15eBKF1nQQ2XS5gzD4rvhVRHMBEj7lJtHuA9wXupS3Uc)
