**Abstract**
**Bio**
Extreme programmer, Thoughtworker, trainer, coach and software developer. Deeply interested in what makes teams and companies successful beyond expectations! Any opinion expressed are my own.

Hey there! 🌟
We'd love for you to join us for our next edition of *Tech Startups in the Pub,* this time in Milan, Italy!
The event is scheduled for **6:30 PM local Italian time**. The platform does not allow us to change the time zone, so we can only create events with the GMT time, thus you will see the invitation for 7:30 PM, but you definitely want to come earlier.
It's a relaxed evening at The O'Connell Irish Pub, and run by Volodymyr. We have been running for 3.5 years in London and we are excited to now run our monthly events in Milan as well, welcoming new folks to the community.
Whether you're a tech founder, an enthusiast, a budding entrepreneur, or simply curious about the tech scene, you'll fit right in. This isn't about panels or pitching, just good old-fashioned networking with like-minded people over a drink on a Thursday evening.
Important information about the location and time. **It is in the ZTL zone**, so please do not come by car. Please use public transport or walk.
**House Rules:**
* Find Volodymyr to introduce yourself so we can welcome you properly. The pub knows we are coming, so you should be able to find us easily.
* No hard selling or heavy pitching. This is a chill, friendly after-work get-together.
* Not drinking? No worries! You're more than welcome to come hang out and enjoy the conversation.
Mark your calendar and come down for some fun tech talk. See you there!

🏐🏝️ Milan Sunday Indoor Beach Volleyball | Casual | Mixed Low-Intermediate
**Limited spots!**
**1\. ℹ️ This is a regular game day for CURRENT members of our volleyball team\.**
**If you're NEW** and interested in joining, please reach out first, **do not RSVP.** From time to time, if we have extra space, we may invite a small number of new players to join as **guests** for that week.
At the moment, the group is **at capacity**, so we are **not accepting new regular members** unless invited at a later time.
**2.** Please RSVP by **Saturday** and only confirm if you can truly commit. We’re not able to accept unconfirmed drop-ins or show-ups at the court, and it’s best not to rely on the waitlist, as last-minute spots are not always possible to fill.
**What to expect:** we’re a casual, low-intermediate group. Most of us have played before, but this is not a training session or a highly structured game setup.
The goal is simply to have fun, stay active, and enjoy good games together.
* Casual 5v5 or 4v4
* We warm up first, then teams will be assigned on court
* Court: covered
* Arrive 10 minutes early so we can start on time
**Important:**
* If you’re looking for a more competitive or structured volleyball setup, these regular games may not be the best fit. You’re welcome to organize separate sessions with others or reach out to Ellie 🤞
* Please be respectful and kind: arrive on time, rotate when asked, and keep a team-first attitude so everyone gets a good run.

Road to HACK: Fine-Tune Your Own AI Model | Hands-On Workshop
Large language models are impressive out of the box — but they hallucinate, they're generic, and they need the cloud.
What if you could take a small open-source model and turn it into a domain expert that runs on your own hardware?
That's exactly what we're doing in this hands-on workshop.
**[Luca Massaron](https://www.linkedin.com/in/lmassaron/)** — data scientist, bestselling AI author, 3x Kaggle Grandmaster, and Google Developer Expert — will walk you through a complete fine-tuning pipeline from scratch: evaluate a base model, generate synthetic training data, fine-tune with QLoRA, and measure the improvement. All on consumer-grade hardware.
By the end of the session, you'll have a repeatable playbook for making small models punch way above their weight in any domain you care about.
**What you'll work through:**
Baseline evaluation of a pre-trained model → Synthetic dataset generation from real sources → Supervised fine-tuning with QLoRA (parameter-efficient, memory-friendly) → Post-training evaluation to measure the knowledge gain → **Bonus:** fine-tuning for classification tasks (sentiment analysis)
**What to bring:**
**Your laptop**. The workshop runs on Google Colab (free T4 GPU tier), so no fancy hardware required — just a browser and a Google account. If you have a machine with an NVIDIA GPU (16GB+ VRAM) or an Apple Silicon Mac (16GB+ unified memory), you can run everything locally too.
**This event is part of Road to HACK — the official warm-up series for [GDG AI HACK 2026](https://gdgaihack.com/).**
On May 8–10, 160 selected participants will compete in a 24-hour AI hackathon in Milan, with tracks spanning on-device AI, vision AI, and EdTech.
Fine-tuning is one of the most directly applicable skills you can bring to the hack.
Applications for GDG AI HACK 2026 are open **until April 17 →** [gdgaihack.com](https://gdgaihack.com/)

**Who is it for?** Anyone who wants to practice yoga in English in a safe and welcoming setting.
**What to bring:** Please bring a yoga or exercise mat.

# FAQs
**Do all ideas have a chance at getting funded?**
Not all ideas will move forward after initial pitches on Saturday. Once pitches are complete, we’ll vote for top ideas and form teams around the 4 – 7 ideas with the most votes. You must recruit **at least four total team members** (including the founder) to move forward and have a chance at getting funded on Sunday. If your idea doesn’t move forward, you can join another team!
**Do I have to submit my idea online prior to the event?**
Unlike previous years, we don’t have the option to submit your idea online prior to the event. Instead, everyone will be going through a brainstorming exercise on Saturday that’ll help you prepare for your initial pitch.
**Will we be working for 24 hours straight?**
Nope. The event is split over two days. You’ll be building on Saturday and pitching on Sunday.
**Do I have to pitch an idea?**
Nope. You can also simply join a team.
**What types of entrepreneurs does GBH support?**
While GBH most often works with technology startups, we support *any* organization (for- or non-profit) that makes an impact on health in the US or across the world.

From Web Forms to Web Components - Burton Smith
**Important time note:** Please plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00 as the elevators lock after 6 and you'll need to message us and we'll need to come get you.
The building address is 4450 Bridge Park
The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400
**Abstract**
Web Forms gave .NET developers a powerful abstraction for building reusable UI controls long before design systems were a thing. Web Components finally bring that same idea to the browser natively.
This session explores how the Web Forms mindset translates into Custom Elements, Shadow DOM, and HTML templates. We’ll examine how Web Components enable design systems that work across frameworks, how they differ from server‑driven controls, and why they’re becoming a foundational layer for modern UI. Whether you’re maintaining legacy apps or building greenfield projects, you’ll leave with a practical understanding of how to apply familiar patterns in a modern, standards‑based way.
