Dutch - Chinese Language Exchange #8: Chill Hike - feat. TiJ
🎉**Welkom! 欢迎光临!** 🎉
We’re thrilled to welcome you to our **Dutch-Chinese Language Exchange Event** – a fun and interactive gathering where language, culture, and new friendships come together!
Whether you’re learning **Dutch**, exploring **Chinese**, or just love meeting people from around the world, today is all about **sharing, speaking, and having fun**. And this time, we’re adding an extra twist — **hiking!**
Practice your language skills through relaxed conversation, pick up new vocabulary while playing games, and enjoy the mix of cultures in a casual, friendly setting. Whether you're a beginner or fluent speaker, there's something here for everyone. So say “你好” or “Hallo”, join a game, and let the exchange begin!
As a side note, this time we will hold the event together with the Talking in Japanese MeetUp group. So we will also have Japanese speaking people in our group.
You can see the full route of the hike from the link below :
https://www.alltrails.com/trail/netherlands/utrecht/stadswandeling-utrecht?u=m&sh=darx53
**The event itinerary will roughly be as follows**:

\- We start our hike from the Centraal station\.
\- We will do our hike/walk of 8\.5 km\.
\- We will finish our hike/walk back at the Utrecht Centraal station\.
PS: Original route was cancelled because of the disruptions on the train lines. We try the original route again in a future event. This time we will be doing a Utrecht City walk. We will pay attention to walk in the shade but still it's recommended to bring suncreen, water and a hat.
Some notes about the event:
\- We will check attendance at the beginning of the event\, so make sure to sign up if you're joining\.
\- We will collect 2 € contribution to cover the expenses on MeetUp\.
\- Some pictures may be taken during the event\, if you prefer your photos not to be taken or shared please reach out to the organizer\.

Sketching in Pinetum Blijdenstein
📍 Hilversum Station, 11:00 → Pinetum → back by ~15:00
🚶♂️ Short walk (~20–30 min each way)
🎯 Main location: Pinetum Blijdenstein (€4 entry)
This time we’re keeping it shorter and focusing on one beautiful spot: the Pinetum — a small botanical garden dedicated to pine trees, full of interesting shapes, textures, and quiet corners to sketch.
We’ll meet at Hilversum Station at 11:00, walk together to the garden (arriving around 11:30), and spend about 2 hours sketching.
There are some benches, but not many — please bring a foldable chair if you’d like to sit while sketching (blankets won’t work here).
Around 13:30, we’ll head back toward the station. If people feel like it, we can grab coffee and maybe lunch at Mout before wrapping up around 15:00.
Bring:
Sketching materials
Water
Foldable chair
Comfortable clothes + an extra layer
No pressure on skill level — quick sketches, detailed studies, or just experimenting are all welcome.
Come for the trees, stay for the sketches 🌲✏️

Music Improvisation Workshop
Are you ready to blast past the limitations of a jam session? Are you ready to extract every drop of musical creativity? This workshop is for those who are ready to risk putting everything that goes in their brains out there in musical form! After this workshop, you're never going to look at music the same way!
More than a jam, the Jam With Humans workshop is a workshop on how to jam. Your teacher Daniel Matias Ferrer will guide you through exercises on musical improvisation and creativity. In a typical workshop, we start by getting to know each other and why we came to the workshop. Then, we warm-up by allowing ourselves to be silly and childishly curious, usually via theatrical exercises. At this point, we replace the verbal component of these exercises by improvised music. We proceed with exercising our skills in coming up with musical ideas, transferring them and listening to the ideas of others, and finish the session with one big jam.
**The Jam With Humans Workshops are free to join. A (voluntary) contribution will be requested at the end of the session for helping with production costs (suggested €20).**
**🤔FAQ🤔**
**Should I bring an instrument?**
If you can, please bring your instrument. PARLOUR AMSTERDAM will be equipped with a bass and two guitar amplifiers, a drum set and a PA system with as many vocal microphones as we’d like to use.
**I’m a beginner, can I join?**
Yes! The workshop is for everyone: we’ll be able to use whatever sounds you can produce plus all your knowledge of music (both from listening and playing) to explore how they can be used creatively in an improvisational setting. The workshop is also a safe space, so don’t be shy in taking risks musically, we have your back!
**I’m a professional, should I join?**
Absolutely! Given that the workshop is about improvisation and creativity, chances are you’ll be faced with exercises that allow you to explore your instrument in ways you never thought about before. Plus, you’ll be practicing mechanisms of being able to improvise with anyone else, in different instruments and with different musical sensibilities.
**How often should I participate?**
As often as you want! The workshops are weekly (or fortnightly during summer time) and their syllabus is circular. All workshops are different and it’s recommended that you come to at least three before you make up your mind about them. Otherwise, show up as often as you want: every week, every two weeks, many workshops in a row and then none for a few months…
There is only one catch: those who come often will be invited eventually to join The Jam With Humans Orchestra in a separate rehearsal and join our Jam With Humans live shows. Also, those who come really often (regularly for over a year), will be invited to teach workshops themselves, as that’s a fundamental part of the Jam With Humans pedagogical ethos.
**Does everyone have to participate, or can I just watch?**
Everyone has to participate! If you’re in the room, you’ll have to participate. No observers! Again: we get your back, no worries. Hold our hand and be ready to dive into the world of improvised music, we’ll be there to help you through the journey.
**What style do we play?**
Whatever you’d like to play. Musical styles, musical genres, those are words which tend to not be imposed to the workshop participants. The goal of the workshop is to harness whatever is your musical language and sensibility to better cooperate with others in an improvisational context.
**Is there anything I should do to prepare?**
Actively listen to a lot of music. Sit down and think of what went through the musicians/composers heads that lead to what you are listening to. If you’re looking for inspiration, start with one of the three big influences on the Jam With Humans musical improvisation style: John Zorn, Sun Ra, Frank Zappa.
Heart of Compassion: Meditatie & Reflectie
*Since the event will be in Dutch, this description is too.*

Tea Ceremony "Bach in the Tea Hut"
Tea Ceremony "Bach in the Tea Hut"
(May - June 2026)
In April Japanese Tea House Naardermeer Tea Hut has opened the doors in Hilversum. The opening went very well, with many visitors coming to experience the space and the stories shared about architect Barry van Waveren and nature guide Saskia Vos.
In May and June, the Tea Hut will be open to the public every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. During these days, visitors are welcome to enter the Naardermeer Tea Hut. Haruka Matsuo will guide you through the space and share its background, materials, and story.
Haruka Matsuo invites you to a special tea gathering series, Bach in the Tea Hut, held at the Naardermeer Tea Hut at Meentwerf. As the Tea Hut is small, the number of guests is limited. Book your seat on the website [https://www.japansetheepot.nl/blank/tea-ceremony-bach-in-the-tea-hut-31-may-2026](https://www.japansetheepot.nl/blank/tea-ceremony-bach-in-the-tea-hut-31-may-2026)
Together with cellist Gé Bartman, we will share an afternoon of Bach’s cello music and the quiet practice of Ōbaku Baisa-Ryū sencha tea ceremony. In the soft light of early summer, tea, sound and silence come together in a small and intimate setting.
Rather than matcha, in this ceremony will be served loose-leaf sencha tea in the tradition of Ōbaku Baisa-Ryū. As the tea slowly changes in flavour through each infusion, the music also gently fills the space. The goal is to create a moment where you can slow down, breathe deeply and simply be present.
Dates (the time is always from 13:30–15:00 o'clock)
- Sunday 31 May
- Saturday 6 June
- Friday 12 June
- Saturday 20 June
- Saturday 27 June
Duration: 70–90 minutes
Price: €32
Location: Meentwerf, Mierenmeent 122, 1218 EM Hilversum
Haruka Matsuo will welcome you there and guide the ceremony
With warm regards
Baatyr

Feel Good Friday: POWER BALLAD at the Gateway Film Center + SHAKE NO. 8!
Join us as we get together to see Paul Rudd in the latest comedy-drama-musical from John Carney, POWER BALLAD! The film follows a washed-up wedding singer, a fading boy band singer and a stolen hit song. Here’s a description, trailer and plan for this event:
DESCRIPTION: Rick, a washed-up wedding singer, and Danny, a fading boy band star, bond over music and a late-night jam session. When Danny turns Rick's song into a hit, Rick sets out to reclaim the recognition he believes he deserves. Power Ballad is written/directed by John Carney, the master of the modern musical and creative mind behind Once, Begin Again and Sing Street! It stars Paul Rudd, Nick Jonas, Peter McDonald, Marcella Plunkett, Havana Rose Liu and Jack Reynor.
BUZZ & ACCLAIM: The film premiered to rave reviews at this year’s Dublin International Film Festival where critics call it “a sure-fired crowd-pleaser” that “just might be the feel-good hit of the year!” Others say, “Paul Rudd delivers a career-best performance in this charmer” that’s both “hilarious and deeply moving." The film continues John Carney’s “long run of success with yet another charmer” and “a sharp, hopeful crowd-pleaser that strikes the right notes!”
