7km hike from Utrecht Lunetten to Amelisweerd-Rhijnauwen and back
7km hike from Utrecht Lunetten to Amelisweerd-Rhijnauwen and back
๐ŸŒฟ Join us for a beautiful 7km hike through Amelisweerd-Rhijnauwen on Saturday 14th of March! โœจ Starting from Utrecht Lunetten station, weโ€™ll explore forest paths, cross charming bridges, and follow the scenic Kromme Rijn river. Along the way, we'll pass the stunning Landhuis Nieuw-Amelisweerd, historic Oud-Amelisweerd, and the famous pancake spot Theehuis Rhijnauwen, before making our way back via a picturesque towpath. Utrecht Hiking Community is not about fast hiking, but about social hiking. Everyone can join: beginners, more advanced hikers, students, professionals, locals, expats, etc. Every month we organise one hike in a different location each month, so you may explore places where you haven't been before. And if you have been somewhere before already, it's still a good opportunity to be active and to get to know some fellow hiking enthusiasts.๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ ๐Ÿ”” Tips: Wear comfy walking shoes, bring water, and check the weather. In case of bad weather, the hike may be postponed, so please look for any latest updates on the day before the hike. Please try to arrive to Utrecht Lunetten train station in time. We want to depart around 10.30AM, so try to be there before that time. Are unforeseen circumstances causing you to arrive later? Then please contact us via WhatsApp on +31621177691. We won't make the whole group wait for you, but we can share our location with you so you can come after us. There are no toilets at Utrecht Lunetten train station. Therefore please visit a restroom before arrival. For those coming by car, there's a small free parking lot directly next to Utrecht Lunetten train station, address: Furkaplateau 2. Dogs are allowed on this route, but need to be kept on a leash during parts of the route. The route is not suitable for people with strollers. For those who like to, there is the option to go for drinks/lunch in the shopping center of Lunetten afterwards. Organising our monthly hikes comes with some costs (travel costs, yearly MeetUp subscription). Therefore we would be very glad for any donations to support us via this link: [https://www.ing.nl/payreq/m/?trxid=zXP3ACEFu2KEgnjtqUPIb7BeSr44EGBL](https://www.ing.nl/payreq/m/?trxid=zXP3ACEFu2KEgnjtqUPIb7BeSr44EGBL) For an impression of this and previous hike, find us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/utrecht.hiking.community See you on Saturday 14th of March!

Real Estate #3: Kasteel Broekhuizen โ€” A Country Estate of Ruins & Hidden Stories
**Sunday, March 15th โ€“ 13:00** **Meeting point:** Bus stop *Donderberg*, Leersum For the third edition of **Real Estate**, our series dedicated to exploring some of the most fascinating villas, estates and historic residences in the Netherlands, we head to the green heart of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug to discover **Kasteel Broekhuizen**. Hidden among forests and rolling landscapes near Leersum, Broekhuizen is a country estate with **medieval roots and a turbulent history**. Over the centuries, it has known periods of prosperity, destruction and reconstruction โ€” and today it stands as a quiet witness to how history, landscape and architecture continuously reshape each other. During our walk, weโ€™ll explore the **estate and its surrounding park**, uncovering stories about: * the rise and fall of the estate * its phases of destruction and rebuilding * hidden corners and forgotten traces in the landscape * and the role of the **Van Nellesteyn family** in shaping its history This is not just a visit to a beautiful country house, but a journey through **layers of time**, where nature and history are deeply intertwined. ### Practical information * **Walk length:** approx. 3.4 km * The route goes through parkland and forest paths, so comfortable shoes are recommended. ### After the walk Weโ€™ll finish at **Bistro LOF**, the cafรฉ/restaurant located within the castle estate itself, where we can enjoy a drink together โ€” and for those who wish, also stay for something to eat โ€” in a setting that perfectly complements the atmosphere of the place. A hidden estate. A story of loss and renewal. A walk through history in the landscape.
Music Improvisation Workshop
Music Improvisation Workshop
Are you ready to blast past the limitations of a jam session? Are you ready to extract every drop of musical creativity? This workshop is for those who are ready to risk putting everything that goes in their brains out there in musical form! After this workshop, you're never going to look at music the same way! More than a jam, the Jam With Humans workshop is a workshop on how to jam. Your teacher Daniel Matias Ferrer will guide you through exercises on musical improvisation and creativity. In a typical workshop, we start by getting to know each other and why we came to the workshop. Then, we warm-up by allowing ourselves to be silly and childishly curious, usually via theatrical exercises. At this point, we replace the verbal component of these exercises by improvised music. We proceed with exercising our skills in coming up with musical ideas, transferring them and listening to the ideas of others, and finish the session with one big jam. **The Jam With Humans Workshops are free to join. A (voluntary) contribution will be requested at the end of the session for helping with production costs (suggested โ‚ฌ20).** **๐Ÿค”FAQ๐Ÿค”** **Should I bring an instrument?** If you can, please bring your instrument. PARLOUR AMSTERDAM will be equipped with a bass and two guitar amplifiers, a drum set and a PA system with as many vocal microphones as weโ€™d like to use. **Iโ€™m a beginner, can I join?** Yes! The workshop is for everyone: weโ€™ll be able to use whatever sounds you can produce plus all your knowledge of music (both from listening and playing) to explore how they can be used creatively in an improvisational setting. The workshop is also a safe space, so donโ€™t be shy in taking risks musically, we have your back! **Iโ€™m a professional, should I join?** Absolutely! Given that the workshop is about improvisation and creativity, chances are youโ€™ll be faced with exercises that allow you to explore your instrument in ways you never thought about before. Plus, youโ€™ll be practicing mechanisms of being able to improvise with anyone else, in different instruments and with different musical sensibilities. **How often should I participate?** As often as you want! The workshops are weekly (or fortnightly during summer time) and their syllabus is circular. All workshops are different and itโ€™s recommended that you come to at least three before you make up your mind about them. Otherwise, show up as often as you want: every week, every two weeks, many workshops in a row and then none for a few monthsโ€ฆ There is only one catch: those who come often will be invited eventually to join The Jam With Humans Orchestra in a separate rehearsal and join our Jam With Humans live shows. Also, those who come really often (regularly for over a year), will be invited to teach workshops themselves, as thatโ€™s a fundamental part of the Jam With Humans pedagogical ethos. **Does everyone have to participate, or can I just watch?** Everyone has to participate! If youโ€™re in the room, youโ€™ll have to participate. No observers! Again: we get your back, no worries. Hold our hand and be ready to dive into the world of improvised music, weโ€™ll be there to help you through the journey. **What style do we play?** Whatever youโ€™d like to play. Musical styles, musical genres, those are words which tend to not be imposed to the workshop participants. The goal of the workshop is to harness whatever is your musical language and sensibility to better cooperate with others in an improvisational context. **Is there anything I should do to prepare?** Actively listen to a lot of music. Sit down and think of what went through the musicians/composers heads that lead to what you are listening to. If youโ€™re looking for inspiration, start with one of the three big influences on the Jam With Humans musical improvisation style: John Zorn, Sun Ra, Frank Zappa.

๐ŸŒธ Online Womenโ€™s Circle | Meditation & Journaling โ€“ Relax the Belly
๐ŸŒธ **Free online gathering** **Next circle: March 15** After this, we will continue meeting on the **first Sunday of each month**. A space to begin the month by returning to yourself. This womenโ€™s circle is an invitation to give yourself one hour to pause, slow down, and reconnect with your body, your inner voice, and other women. A simple and caring commitment: beginning the month with meditation and journaling in community. You can think of it as a small personal ritual, creating the habit of listening to yourself, writing, and setting intentions for the month ahead. We meet online on Sunday afternoons to gently transition into a new week and a new month, creating a moment of presence, reflection, and intention. During this 1-hour session we will explore: โœจ a guided meditation to arrive in the body โœจ a journaling practice to connect with what is alive in you โœจ a space for sharing, where you are welcome to speak or simply listen No previous experience is needed. You are welcome just as you are. Please have a notebook and a pen nearby, and join from a quiet space where you wonโ€™t be interrupted during the session. You are welcome to join once, or come back each month. The choice is yours. The first circles are offered for free in order to create community and open this space to more women. Participants who register for the event will receive the **Google Meet link** before the circle begins. It will be lovely to welcome you into this space ๐ŸŒฟ

Speak Easy (Storytelling)
Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for March is "Our Bodies, Ourselves" Speak Easy: true stories, told live. The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect. The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!

# **Band and caller TBA** Beginner lesson at 1:30, regular dancing begins at 2:00 pm NOTE THAT WE ARE TEMPORARILY DANCING IN THE AFTERNOON INSTEAD OF EVENING. Dance with us in the afternoon then you can still go out in the evening! **Sponsor: All Soles Contra and Square Dancing, First Unitarian Universalist Church, 93 W. Weisheimer Rd., Columbus OH 43214** WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like youโ€™ve seen in period films such as โ€œPride and Prejudiceโ€, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. Thatโ€™s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like โ€œswing your partnerโ€ and โ€œdo-si-do,โ€ like youโ€™ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alรก โ€œRiverdance.โ€ Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THATโ€™s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor. Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 1:30 - 2:00, followed by dancing 2:00 - 430. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner. Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot. Please bring your own refillable water bottle.

Shut Up & Write!ยฎ Easton Town Center
We'll meet at The Capital One Cafรฉ, 167 Easton Town Center, Space A-103. This is in the main mall where the Microsoft store used to be, on your left if you're standing at the bottom of the AMC Theater escalator. Join us on Sunday for an hour of uninterrupted wordmaking! โ€ข What we'll do Join us for an hour of writing! Weโ€™ve discovered that itโ€™s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if itโ€™s true for you at noon on Sundays. Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. SCHEDULE: 12:00 - quick intros. 12:10 - timer starts: write for 1 hour. 1:10 - chat / take off / keep writing. OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens at 1-1:30ish. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing. BEING LATE IS OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check-in with me after the session. If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer. Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you! โ€ข What to bring Whatever you need to be able to write! Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block noise or the occasional conversation by other patrons. Electrical outlets are limited, so charge your devices before whenever possible. See you at The Cafรฉ on Sunday!
