TPL Salon Author Talk & CBC Ideas: History's Fiction, Fiction's Truth
(This EVENT is now FULL--currently NO tickets left)
***Toronto Public Library presents acclaimed novelist Esi Edugyan and celebrated historian Tiya Miles in a conversation that challenges the boundaries between fiction and history.***
***In conversation with CBC Ideas host Nahlah Ayed.***
**FREE Eventbrite ticket** link is below--you need this entry ticket!
\*\*National Book Award winner, **Tiya Miles**, brings the tools of fiction, vivid characterization, emotional resonance, and narrative suspense, to her groundbreaking histories of enslaved women and Indigenous communities.
\*\***Esi Edugyan**, a two-time Giller Prize winner and Booker Prize finalist, grounds her historical novels in exhaustive archival research, excavating the lives of Black figures navigating 19th-century Europe and America with a historian's rigor and a novelist's grace.
**Together, they'll explore the practical and ethical questions at the heart of their work:**
How do you responsibly imagine the inner lives of people who left few records? When does historical accuracy serve the story, and when does it constrain it? What can historians learn from novelists about making readers care, and what can novelists learn from historians about accountability to the past?
**Edugyan and Miles will discuss how we recover, reckon with, and retell the stories that shaped us, with host Nahlah Ayed.**

Make Lotions, Potions and Creams: Beginner's Workshop
Lotions, Potions & Creams I
Dread the feeling of dry, itchy skin? The obnoxious fragrances and unreadable ingredients of drug store moisturizing lotions? Want to moisturize and nourish your skin without feeling like you've been dunked in a tank of grease?
Come learn to make your own lotions, for yourself, your family, and your clients. We'll use simple, natural, vegan ingredients like vegetable waxes and flower waters. You'll chose enhancing ingredients like essential oils, cocoa butter, shea butter, argan, tamanu, evening primrose, rosehip and calendula oil to meet individual skin needs.
You'll not only learn how to make a basic white lotion and basic white cream from scratch, but also how to protect yourself and your loved ones, no matter how young, from harmful sun rays, while still making and storing essential vitamin D by using natural ingredients like shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut and avocado oils.
You'll preserve with essential oils and grapefruit seed extract instead of harmful ingredients. We will create:
• Basic White Cream and/or
• Basic White Lotion
• Cocoa Cream or
• Shea Butter Cream
• Your Very Own Custom Elemental Protection Lotion
• Your Very Own Custom Specialty Cream (such as Anti Ageing, or Eczema, or Healing or? ...)
Finally, you will package and label your creations in beautiful cobalt blue jars, metal and glass pump bottles.
You'll come away with the lotions, potions and creams you've made, and skills that can serve you for a lifetime for a fraction of the cost of a quality moisturizer!
What I enjoyed about the Lotions and Creams course is that Tracey the instructor didn't just know how to make creams and lotions, she knew extensively the products we were working with to a point that she could make recommendations suited to the kind of cream/lotion you wanted to make and all the properties of those products at the drop of a hat. She is so knowledgeable.
The course taught me everything I needed to know about making lotions and creams and how to customize them to suit my customers needs and my own. She is truly in the right field of work. We laughed, we learned and we created not just lotions but memories.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Atwood, Oshawa Ontario, healer and co-owner of natural product company http://www.TranquilityMatters.ca

Rotman School: FEMINIST CITY 6.0: What Makes a Caring City? (Panel talk)
(Please reserve your own FREE entry ticket--at the link I've included below)
### Event Synopsis:
Why care matters more than ever.
### **Agenda:**
4:30 pm - Doors Open
5:00 pm - Panel discussion begins
6:15 pm - Event ends
*Join the School of Cities and the Institute for Gender and the Economy (GATE) for **Feminist City 6.0: What Makes a Caring City?** Together, we’ll explore how cities can be redesigned to foster caring, inclusive communities where everyone can thrive.*
We've attended previous editions of this ongoing conversation: 2.0 & 4.0.
**Care is the foundation of our societies**. From childcare to health care to elder care, everyone depends on care for themselves and their loved ones. The need for equitable access to care services continues to grow as populations age, women’s participation in the labour market increases, and challenges like the climate crisis threaten health and safety. At the same time, shifting work patterns and back-to-office mandates are changing how people navigate care responsibilities, commutes, and community life.
High-quality care services not only support the well-being of care recipients but also open economic and social opportunities for caregivers. Caring communities are essential for building just, resilient, and flourishing cities—now and in the future.
***How can cities meet the demand for equitable, accessible care? How can we prepare urban systems to support care in a rapidly changing global economy?***
Answering these questions is critical for businesses, policymakers, civic organizations, developers, planners, and engaged citizens—because we all benefit from cities that are vibrant, inclusive, and built to care.

The Coach's Money Mindset Reset

Why Your Brain Is Chemically Rewarding You For Staying Stuck Below Your True Earning Potential
Most coaches hitting the almost-six-figure ceiling aren't struggling with their marketing or offer.
They're trapped by something far more powerful - a deep-seated reality addiction around money and success.
You've built a solid coaching business.
You have testimonials that prove your value.
Your clients get real results.
Yet somehow, consistent $10K+ months remain frustratingly out of reach.
Every time you get close to breaking through, something happens:
* You discount your rates when a potential client hesitates
* You overdeliver to justify your prices
* You feel a nagging discomfort when thinking about charging more
* You work harder instead of leveraging what's already working
The problem isn't your coaching ability. It's the unconscious stories you believe about wealth that create unnecessary friction in your business growth.
What "Reality Addiction" Is Costing You
Reality addiction is the unconscious belief that your current financial ceiling is "just how things are" for coaches like you.
It's the voice that whispers:
*"Making more means working more."*
*"If I charge premium rates, I'll price out the people who need me."*
*"Successful coaches are just better at selling than I am."*
These limiting beliefs aren't just in your head — they're actively sabotaging your business decisions, creating a cycle where:
* You undercharge for your services
* You overwork to compensate
* You feel resentful about the imbalance
* You burn out before reaching your goals
I know because I was stuck in the same cycle. Making $8K months but unable to break through to consistent five-figure months until I addressed my reality addiction around wealth and success.
What You'll Discover in This Free Workshop
Once you join you'll feel the tension in your chest release as you finally understand why making money has felt so difficult.
During our 60-minute session, you'll experience:
\- The exact moment you recognize the invisible reality addiction that's been holding your income back—and feel immediate relief knowing it's not your fault
\- A profound shift as you see other successful coaches breaking through the same blocks that have kept you stuck
\- The liberating feeling of having a clear path forward instead of pushing that boulder uphill every day
\- The quiet confidence that comes from knowing exactly which stories to release so you can finally command premium rates without the guilt
When you apply the framework I'll share, you'll wake up feeling excited about your business again instead of exhausted by it.

“For the first time in my life, I felt valued and loved. This work changed everything.”
\- Lynn D
Security Coach

“He worked on my fear of success, which was blocking me from getting more clients. I felt a huge sense of relief the very next day and started getting inquiries about my services.”
\- Nisreen M
Reiki Master/Teacher

Fever by Deon Meyer
Our next book will be Fever by Deon Meyer. Here's the blurb:
An epic story of survival and betrayal for fans of Station Eleven and The Road.
Nico Storm and his father, Willem, drive a truck filled with essential supplies through a desolate land. A devastating virus has swept over the planet, and they are among its few survivors. Nico―although he is still only a boy―is gifted with superb marksmanship and a cool head, while Willem is a thinker and a leader with a vision for a new community of survivors that they will rebuild from the ruins. And so Amanzi is founded, drawing Storm’s “homeless and tempest-tost,” including Sofia Bergman, the most beautiful girl Nico has ever seen.
As the community grows, so do the challenges they face―not just from the attacks of biker brigands, but also from within. In this new world, Nico undergoes an extraordinary rite of passage, testing his loyalty to the limits until he faces the greatest rupture of all―the murder of the person he loves most. Propulsively readable, Fever is a gripping epic of humanity striving for a noble vision against its basest impulses.
