The Ninth Floor: Black History Month Film Screening and Fireside Chat
Join EnRoute 2 Success, in partnership with Brampton Library, for a Black History Month screening of The Ninth Floor, followed by a panel.
*The Ninth Floor* documents a pivotal moment in Canadian history. In 1969, Caribbean students at Sir George Williams University in Montreal were targeted and criminalized after raising concerns of racial discrimination. The film captures both the events themselves and the lasting impact they left behind.
Following the screening, participants are invited to stay for a Fireside Chat. The conversation will include voices from the community and will reflect on the role of systemic racism in the events depicted and how those patterns continue to appear today.
**Event Details:**
📅 **Date:** February 21, 2026
📍 **Location:** Brampton Library – Cyril Clark Branch
⏰ **Time:** 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM
**Important Note:** This is a free community event. Seating is limited and advance registration is required. **Reserve your spot here:** **[Tickets](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-ninth-floor-black-history-month-film-screening-and-fireside-chat-tickets-1980792963074)**

Discover what is happening in the next few days
Let's go sliding down, let's go tobogganing!
Moving this event to tomorrow, February 22 since there isn't enough snow yet. If the conditions don't improve, we'll keep this for a day with better snowfall.
Can't let the snowfall go to waste, hence, we are going tobogganing. Let's connect with our 8 year old selves and make this snowy Saturday adventurous and magical!
The plan - Slide down the hill and then climb up to slide down again.
Skills needed -
1. Ability to scream your lungs out.
2. Ability to fall not-so-gracefully
Things you need -
1. A sled, tobogganing mat (Canadian Tire has some under $10), or anything that helps you slide down.
2. Snow pants are recommended
3. Boots with good grip are also a great idea.
4. Something to cover your mouth, again optional but good to have.
We’ll take turns racing down the hill, cheer each other on, pause for breath and just enjoy being outside together.
After this event, for the magical part (for whoever's interested), we will head towards Trillium Park to see the light displays (another event from our meet up group). On the way we will stop to grab a bite, hot chocolate and coffee.

Urban Walk: Introductory Hike – Crothers Woods
Anyone is welcome to join this hike but we are especially inviting our new members (and prospective members) to learn about our hiking program and how our guided hikes are classified and described in the hike schedule and what you should bring with you on hike. We will explore Crothers Woods in the Don Valley, nature in the heart of the city, which will present some moderate challanges with it's ups and downs giving it's Level 2 classification. The actual route will depend on conditions of the day to keep it a moderate level hike. Please bring ice traction cleats (mandatory) for a safe hike. We'll have a brief outdoor snack/lunch stop along the route. We will return to Todmorden Mills at the end of the hike. Note transit users will need to ascend the fairly steep hill on Pottery Road at the conclusion of the hike. Washrooms are available at the Todmorden Mills Site.
On this introductory hike we will:
* Discuss how a hike is classified (Level 1,2,3, Moderate/Fast, etc)
* Discuss the variables that affect the difficulty of any particular hike
* Discuss why different people have different perspectives on the difficulty level of the same hike
* Demonstrate some terrain that would raise the difficulty level of hike hiking
* Help you know you have the information required to choose the hikes right for you
