Excited to announce our new ADVANCED openplay session during the week at KCARC! Welcome to Melbourne Volleyball Academy. 🤗 **[[WHAT]]** This session is specifically for games only (no training). There will be a cap of 18 players, allowing for 3 teams of 6. Games will be played to 15 points, with a cap at 18 points. These games are intended to be played at a high-intermediate(BB)/advanced(A) level. Players should be able to: * Have strong fundamentals for all volleyball techniques * Serve receive a majority of serves well & serve over the net consistently * Basic understanding of 5-1, and 6-2 systems (we do not play a pass middle 4-2 system in this session) * Have an understanding of base defense * Know all/most volleyball rules Players that are not of the intermediate(BB)/advanced(A) level will be asked to leave as we want to ensure that all players have an enjoyable time playing. **[[HOW MUCH $$]]** $21 card payment will be processed on the day via square reader (EFTPOS). **[[WHEN]]** The stadium is booked from 6:30 PM-9:30 PM weekly, every Thursday. However, feel free to come early and stretch as the Community Centre is open earlier. Last minute dropouts and no shows will have a zero-tolerance policy going forward. All players are expected to update their RSVP at least 24 hours in advanced if they are unable to attend. This session we turn to the strange, dark, and darkly comic worlds of the Coen Brothers with two of their most distinctive films: No Country for Old Men (2007) and Barton Fink (1991). Both films explore characters who find themselves trapped in worlds they barely understand. In No Country for Old Men, a quiet act of greed sets off a relentless chain of violence across the Texas borderlands, raising haunting questions about fate, morality, and whether the modern world has simply become too brutal to comprehend. In Barton Fink, a New York playwright arrives in Hollywood hoping to write meaningful art, only to descend into a surreal nightmare of writer’s block, strange neighbours, and the suffocating machinery of the film industry. Despite their very different tones—one stark and minimalist, the other claustrophobic and absurd—both films share the Coens’ fascination with existential dread, moral ambiguity, and the limits of human understanding. For this meetup: Watch both films beforehand. Come ready to discuss themes, style, performances, and the Coens’ unique blend of philosophy, genre, and dark humour. Some questions we might explore: Is Anton Chigurh a human character, or something closer to fate itself? What does Barton Fink say about art, Hollywood, and the role of the “writer”? How do the Coens use genre (western, thriller, noir, surrealism) to explore deeper philosophical ideas? Why do so many Coen characters seem overwhelmed by the worlds they inhabit? The optimum computing machine is a subject many of us have studied. If you were building one how would you design it? First the computer should be able to compute with perfect accuracy on any problem in the universe and produce answers which were always and invariably right. Second the computer would have to be swift, working much more quickly than the problem and process could be vocally articulated. Third the computer would have to be able to handle large numbers of variables and large numbers of problems simultaneously. Forth, the computer would have to be able to evaluate its own data and there would have to remain available within it not only a record of its former conclusions but the evaluations leading to those conclusions. Fifth, the computer would have to be served by a memory bank of nearly infinite capacity and would have to be available to the analytical portion of the computer in the smallest fractions of a second. Sixth, the computer would have to be able to rearrange former conclusions or alter them in the light of new experience. Seventh, the computer would need no exterior director, but would be entirely self determined about its programing guided only by the necessity –value of the solution which it itself would determine. Eight the computer should be self servicing and self arming against present and future damage and would be able to estimate future damage. Ninth the computer should be served by perception by which it could determine necessity –value. Tenth ,the memory bank should store perceptions as perceived ,consecutive with time received with the smallest possible time divisions between perception .It would then store in color-Visio (moving),tone audio (flowing),odor ,tactile and self sensation ,all of them cross –coordinated . Eleventh, for the purposes of solutions, it would have to be able to create new situations and imagine new perceptions hitherto not perceived and should be able to conceive these to itself in terms of tone –audio ,color-visio ,odor, tactile, and self sensation –and should be able to file anything so conceived as imagined ,labeled “memories” Twelfth, the entire machine should be portable. It might be somewhat astonishing at first to conceive such a computer .But the fact is, the machine is in existence .There are billions of them in use today and many ,many more billions have been made and used in the past .
