LM: AT Trail Magic in PA ~24 miles
Our DC UL friend is on the AT, so we'd like to meet up with her and do some trail magic! The plan is to meet at Grosvenor Metro at 7am on Saturday and carpool to the AT parking lot in Port Clinton PA (stopping at a Sheetz along the way). We will pack heavy and bring lots of luxury foods that someone thru hiking for months would enjoy! We will hike south on the AT until we meet Elisabeth and then head back north to the Windsor Furnace shelter and eat dinner and any excess trail magic. We will hike north on the AT for a bit more and then loop back to the cars the next day. We can grab some food at Port Clinton before driving back.

This leads to improper care of the patient, and endangers the entire group. Many recreational accidents are preventable, and improper care of trauma can compound even simple injuries. Very few first aid programs actually address the issues of providing emergency care in a setting where 911 is overwhelmed or not immediately reachable. In this course, classroom instruction and Q&A are interwoven with practical work and problem-solving exercises. Hands-on experience - a most powerful learning tool - during scenarios comprise \~50% of class.
TIMING: This is a 2-day class, Saturday and Sunday, 8:00am -7pm each day.

CoffeeRun, CoWork, & Collaborate: Black DMV Vegans Meal Planning
Greetings,
For the Spring/Summer warm weather season (approximately 6 months), let's meet again for another **Last Saturday of the Month CoffeeRun, CoWork, & Collaboration meeting** at **Union Market in NE DC**. Topics include but are not limited to personal development, accountability, community service, partnerships, projects, and team building with those who share similar values **(readers feel free to bring books; several indoor/outdoor restaurants, bars, lounges, stores, and coffee shops in the market area)**. **Meeting open to all backgrounds and ethnicities.**
May will focus on those interested in meal planning a designated number of vegan/plant-based/whole food dishes (to include meal planning for **possible Last Saturday of the month evening dinner events at local DC residences). Group tours of local DC residential space/venues for any planned dinners available for RSVPs verified in person and their guest list.**
Also, for those interested, **District Running Collective (DRC)** meets at this location (Union Market curbside) nearly every Wednesday evening (at 6:30pm) and Saturday mornings (at 7:00am for 6 to 10mile runners; 8:00am for 3 mile runners; three miles takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes depending on fitness level). Updates can be sent regarding any location changes/run rescheduling. Good opportunity for novice or more experienced runners to jumpstart their holistic health journey this season (e.g., sleep, diet, exercise, mental resilience) with others who share similar personal development goals (see DRC information link below).

Charity Treasure Dive with Aquatic Adventures
**What:** Aquatic Adventures is doing their annual charity treasure dive which is always a fun filled day of meeting dive buddies new and old, a BBQ lunch, and of course diving for a token that could snag you anything from a hat to a week long live-a-board trip in the Bahamas.
So how does this work? Aquatic Adventures sends staff down to tie tokens to various objects under the water at the lake. It could be a tree, a boat, bus, helicopter or other object. Tokens are distributed at various depths so all can participate, no matter if you are advance or a newbie. All divers should take only one token, Unfound tokens are auctioned off. Then prizes are drawn for each number, and there is a prize for each number (everyone is a winner), While some are small, fun prizes like a hat. Others can be equipment (I have seen regulators before). It appears that this year's big prize is a Live-a-Board trip in the Bahamas.
I have done this several times with Aquatic Adventures and it has always been a great day of diving and camaraderie. This year I will be leading the club trip to the Caymans starting on this day, so I'll miss it, but Aquatic Adventures will take great care of you.
**Where:** Lake Phoenix, 1 Quarry Ln, Rawlings, VA 23876

When you get to Lake Phoenix, you will check in with Lake Phoenix and tell them you are with the Aquatic Adventures group. They will direct you to the Aquatic Adventures pavilions.
**When:** Dives will start at 11am. The auction for unfound tokens and the drawing for prizes will start at 2pm.
**Why:** Proceeds from the event will go to benefit [Camp Open Seas](https://www.facebook.com/groups/408647187037266), which provides a week long SCUBA camp for children with disabilities.

Whiskey Hollow AT Shelter Intermediate Backpacking Trip
Experience the Appalachian Trail in late spring, when the forest is fully green and alive but the heat of summer hasn’t quite set in. Surrounded by a vibrant canopy, this section of the AT is a great place to enjoy the outdoors with a group of like-minded friends. The route offers a little bit of everything—rocky stretches, low-lying areas, and beautiful, wooded terrain.
We’ll head south on the AT to the Whiskey Hollow Shelter, where there are plenty of campsites and reliable water sources to set up for the night. There is also an older shelter nearby (Dick’s Dome).

Hike: Austin and Furnace Mountains, SNP, VA

(Bus hike) Don’t miss this hike in the beautiful but seldom-visited southern section of the Shenandoah National Park. All hikers walk for a short distance on the Madison Run Road before beginning the ascent of Austin Mountain and Rockytop Trails. Moderate hikers then descend on the Madison Run Spur Trail and Road back to the bus. Long hikers continue on the Big Run Loop Trail to the Appalachian Trail, which is followed through Browns Gap to the summit of Blackrock with its panoramic views. The Blackrock and Trayfoot Mountain Trails lead to our descent on the Furnace Mountain Trail to the bus. Est.: 12 miles, 2800' elevation and 9 miles, 2000' elevation. PATC Map 11. Fare: $33.

* Caution: The "south" parking lot also has bus shelters. If by 8:15, you're not with a group of Wanderbirds hikers, you may be in the south lot. There's a walkway that passes the fare gates over I-66 to the north lot.
**RESERVATIONS**
Wanderbirds Hiking Club is a 501(c)(7) non-profit, and the public is invited on all hiking trips. Reservations are accepted as late as Saturday, but reserving as early in the week as possible helps ensure your spot and prevent cancellation of the hike due to low sign-ups. RSVP through Meetup and pay through PayPal. Please be sure your RSVP gives your full name and phone number and where you'll be boarding the bus.
**FIRST-TIME HIKERS**
If you're a first-time hiker with us, please notify the leaders in advance so they can make sure you have the info you need. Hikers must be able to keep a 2-mph (30 min/mile) pace. New hikers are required to first complete a moderate hike with us.
Liability Waiver: Many of our hikes take place in remote wilderness areas where cell phone service is not available. Any person participating in any Club activity is responsible for their own safety, health and welfare, and must assume all risks and liabilities related to all Club activities. The Club, its hike leaders, hike sweeps, officers, and other representatives are not liable for any injuries, losses, or damage to persons, children, pets, and/or property, arising from any trips or activities of the Club. You are responsible for bringing enough water, food, and first aid supplies, including those for your personal medical conditions.
**CANCELLATION POLICY**
To cancel and receive a full bus hike refund, less a $5 processing fee, you must change your RSVP to "No" on MeetUp before NOON on the Frida**y before the hike**. If you change your RSVP after twelve noon on the Friday before the hike, a refund will not be issued (but a 'rain-check' may be possible).
Cancellations to Metro/carpool/trailhead hikes will not issue a financial refund, but hikers are implored to change their Meetup RSVP to NO so that leaders do not wait for them at the trailhead.
**FLU, COVID-19, and RSV PRECAUTIONS**
Anyone experiencing symptoms of upper respiratory illness should not attend the event.
