Join author and scholar Felix John Taylor for a talk on his new book on the legendary Victorian occult society The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. The first full-length narrative history of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, the esoteric society at the centre of the 19th- and 20th-century rise of the occult. Occultism has long been associated with the visual and literary arts, the wild and the avant-garde, and nowhere was this more embodied than in the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. Founded in London in the 1880s by Freemasons, it was the world’s most famous secret society. In this fresh, bracing narrative history, Felix John Taylor recounts its rise and fall through the men and women for whom the Order represented both an alternative to traditional Victorian religious values and a space for imaginative exploration. Devoted to the study of ceremonial magic, the Order attracted a long list of eminent writers, actors and visual artists to its ranks. It looked towards a ‘golden age’ of spiritual enlightenment, with progressive ideals – class and gender were no barriers to entry – and teachings from tarot to alchemy and astral projection that were gradually unveiled as members ascended ten ‘grades’. While its temples were formally spaces to practice magic, Taylor finds that the Golden Dawn was at various points more an arts club or society of writers. Political schisms and sex scandals ensured that it was short-lived, yet for many members its occult practices came to shape their work and influence the wider culture over a much longer period. The Golden Dawn, with its role in the foundation of Wicca and modern developments in magic, is a vital thread connecting Victorian esotericism to the present-day occult revival. This visually arresting, meticulously researched literary history teases out these connections, while offering a compelling account of the Order and its members.

Come join us in the woods, for a Pagan Picnic & drumming Social.. . * Bring your own picnic - perhaps some food & drinks to share. * Bring any musical instruments /talents you have (or just attend). * Dress up in capes, cloaks and colours (or just everyday clothing). Bring drums and other acoustic musical / percussion instruments and join in with our drumming, singing and chanting - that will take place on and off, as participants see fit. If you know of pagan chants and songs, feel free to come and teach it to us or just take the spot light and sing ...(and we can give you some drumming accompaniment as backdrop). There are logs to sit on. But you may like to bring your own ground sheet or blanket or cushion for extra comfort. \*\*FREE EVENT\*\* Central clearing, Queen's Woods, (Tube: HighGate on Northern line). Please observe woodland safety. Families can set off on a playful Easter trail adventure, exploring 8-9 stations indoors and outside, collecting stickers and hunting for hopeful symbols hidden around different parts of the chapel. Each stop reveals a fun fact to share together, helping everyone discover the special places and there meaning. And of course there will be prizes . This is a free event. Donations are welcome

Singing from the Heart led by Andrew Clark (suggested donation: £25) We will learn simple sacred songs and harmonies drawn from the Christian and other spiritual traditions. Singing from the heart helps us to connect, individually and collectively, with the flow of Universal Love. This can be meaningful for many people, whether their spirituality is linked to a particular faith tradition or to none. We will learn the chants by ear, so you do not need to be able to read music or be an experienced singer to enjoy this! DANCING EVERY 1ST AND 3RD SATURDAY NIGHTS <3 Tribalheart Ecstatic dance creates space for free-form movement in a chat free zone where you can dive deeply into the heart, reconnecting, expressing, dancing in and out, up and down, learning to let go of anything and everything that holds you back from yourSelf and inner freedom. Let the energy move you, let the spirit of the heart guide you. There is space to dance alone and no pressure to connect with anyone else, just be yourself and honour what you need in the moment. This night is an inspiration and fusion of club culture, dancing yoga, active meditation, cardio fitness, Ecstatic trance dance (blindfolds available) and a sacred Nataraj. If you choose to connect, it is a chance to meet others without words from a place of movement, meditation, energy and soul; eyes and heart wide open. ### We will start the evening with a welcoming warmup to relax the body and mind. Together we will set an intention for the evening inviting the heart to open and awaken within us thus creating sacred space for all. For those that wish to partake, we will enjoy and deepen our intention with a short Cacao ceremony. Our program encourages children to discover their own inner light, express kindness, and develop a personal connection with God. The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event. We will be hearing from Becca Powell, Director of Advocacy and Outreach at Unchained At Last, an organization whose mission is dedication to ending forced and child marriage in the United States through direct services and systems change.
