Carlos Mencia "No Hate, No Fear" Tour
Mencia comes from a humble background, born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, the 17th of 18 children. His parents sent him to the United States when he was three months old, where he was raised in the Maravilla Projects in Los Angeles by his aunt and uncle. In his early teens, Mencia moved back to Honduras. When Mencia returned to Los Angeles, he showed such educational prowess that he pursued a career in engineering. But an amateur night at the world-renowned Laugh Factory comedy club would change his path, and a career in comedy began. He became a regular at The Comedy Store, performing nightly. After he found success on the Los Angeles comedy circuit, Mencia was named International Comedy Grand Champion from Buscando Estrellas (the Latin version of Star Search), eventually landing on shows such as "In Living Color," "The Arsenio Hall Show," and "An Evening at the Improv."
Mencia continued his journey up the comedy ladder by headlining stand-up tours and starring in stand-up TV specials. In 2002, he received a CableACE Award nomination for Best Stand-Up Comedy Special for his HBO special. Comedy Central soon took notice and the show "Mind of Mencia" went into development. Created by Carlos and comedy producer Robert Morton, the comedy series featured Carlos and his crew with their merciless mix of up-close stand-up, unconventional street interviews, and shocking commercial parodies. The show was an instant hit, and propelled Mencia to the comedy elite. After the first season, Comedy Central signed Mencia back for an original stand-up special, "Carlos Mencia: No Strings Attached," the first Comedy Central Stand-up Special DVD to achieve Platinum sales status.
Throughout the four seasons of “Mind of Mencia,” Carlos never stopped performing live, headlining shows across the country and internationally. “Comedy is my art, and fans are my passion,” he has said. Always looking to give back to those fans, Mencia has entertained troops serving overseas for USO tours in Turkey, Kirkuk, Baghdad, Qatar, Afghanistan, and many other countries.
Later, Mencia went on to star on the big screen. He starred opposite Ben Stiller and Michelle Monaghan in "The Heartbreak Kid," and in the family-comedy "Our Family Wedding," alongside America Ferrara and Forrest Whitaker.
Carlos Mencia presently lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two sons.

Haddish is perhaps best known for her breakout role as the scene-stealing “Dina” in the smash hit comedy *Girls Trip.* She will soon reprise her role in the highly anticipated sequel *Girls Trip 2*, opposite Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, and Regina Hall. This November, Haddish will be seen in Peacock’s unscripted series *Tiffany Haddish Goes Off*, which chronicles Haddish’s 4-week long girls’ trip in Africa with her three best friends. She will also star in Lil Rel Howery’s feature *Haunted Heist*, which premiered at the 2025 Fantastic Fest; Carlo Bernard’s upcoming action-thriller, *The Deputy*, alongside William H. Macy, Duke Nicholson, and Julia Fox; Adam Rifkin’s psychedelic stoner comedy, *Toad,* alongside James Franco, Christopher Meloni, and Craig Robinson; THE GIRL IN THE RIVER, alongside Maggie Grace, Ralph Macchio, and Devon Sawa; and crime-thriller MOTION.
Haddish is a *New York Times* bestselling author of the memoir *The Last Black Unicorn* and a children’s book author of *Layla, The Last Black Unicorn.* The companion audiobook to her memoir, which she narrated, was nominated for a 2019 Grammy Award for Spoken Word Album. Her latest book, a collection of essays entitled, *I Curse You with Joy*, was released in May 2024. Shortly after, Haddish teamed up with legendary songwriter Diane Warren to release her empowering single, “Woman Up.”
Previously, Haddish executive produced VICE TV’s series *Black Comedy in America* and made a cameo in *Bad Boys: Ride or Die*, opposite Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, which made almost $400 million at the box office. She can also be seen starring as Detective Danner in Apple TV+’s critically acclaimed murder mystery series, *The Afterparty*; in Disney’s *Haunted Mansion*; MGM’s *Landscape With Invisible Hand,* an adaption of MT Anderson’s futuristic sci-fi novel; and *Back on the Strip*. Haddish also served as host and executive producer of the Emmy-nominated Netflix stand-up comedy series *Tiffany Haddish Presents: They Ready.* The series of half-hour comedy specials featuring her friends and long-time comedic collaborators ran for two seasons.
Her Emmy-nominated and Grammy-winning comedy special, *Tiffany Haddish: Black Mitzvah*, debuted on Netflix in December 2019. Haddish became the second black woman ever to win a Grammy for “Outstanding Comedy Album” and the first since Whoopi Goldberg won in 1986. Her first stand-up special, *Tiffany Haddish: She Ready! From the Hood to Hollywood* was released on Showtime in August 2017. Just three months after the special’s release, Haddish made history by becoming the first black female stand-up comedian to host *Saturday Night Live,* which earned her the 2018 Emmy Award for “Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.” In June 2018, Haddish took the reins as the host of the *MTV Movie and TV Awards*, a role that earned her critical acclaim and significant ratings boost for MTV.
Haddish’s journey and life experiences have inspired her comedy and sense of humor both on and off the stage. She has been very candid about her experiences growing up in foster care in South Central Los Angeles. Her excessive talking and imaginary friends prompted her flustered social worker to steer her into stand-up comedy. She enrolled in the Laugh Factory’s Comedy Camp, a place for at-risk and underprivileged children to transform negative energy into something positive. The experience was just the beginning of her comedy career. Haddish recently founded The She Ready Foundation to help and support foster kids in need. In 2021, The She Ready Foundation launched an Internship Program with Ready To Succeed for foster youth in the SoCal area.

Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: Doom and Dinosaurs
[Profs and Pints Northern Virginia](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **“Doom and Dinosaurs,”** a look at how mass extinctions shaped the dinosaurs and what research on these events tells us about Earth life’s long-term prospects, with Ian Wilenzik, paleontologist and visiting assistant professor of biology at George Washington University.
[Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-dino-doom](https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-dino-doom) .]
Pity the poor dinosaurs. They lacked both scientific research to help deal with potential environmental catastrophes and places where they could have a beer and discuss it.
You, on the other hand, have the opportunity to come to Profs and Pints to hear a fascinating talk on the impact of mass extinctions on dinosaur evolution and what research on dinosaurs tells us about biodiversity and Earth’s current biodiversity crisis.
Dr. Ian Wilenzik, who has studied and taught courses on dinosaur evolution, population spread, and extinction, will leave you with a greater appreciation of the resilience of life on earth and how we’re both the product and source of biologically catastrophic events.
Many of us are familiar with how a big meteor impact about 66 million years ago wiped out the Earth’s dinosaur population, leaving us only with their feathered descendants, birds. Less well known is how the Earth actually has undergone five periods of mass extinction that wiped out nearly all life, and how dinosaurs arose from one and endured another—both caused by volcanic activity—before meeting their match in the third.
To ground his discussion, Dr. Wilenzik will talk about how we study mass extinctions by looking for geologic evidence of volcanic activity, meteoric blasts, and other catastrophic activity and of gaps in the fossil record after them.
He’ll also discuss what makes a dinosaur a dinosaur, describing their distinct anatomical features. He’ll talk about how they and other forms of life evolved over long periods of time and were affected by extinction events.
We’ll look at how the meteor-caused mass extinction that wiped out dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous paved the way for the rise of mammals and the emergence of primates, and, eventually, us. Looking ahead to future mass extinctions and what might survive them, we’ll talk about how that plant you forget to water might have the last laugh, as well as why crocodiles might be around a while. (Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. The talk starts 30 minutes later.)
