STARRY HOUR; Zeiss-Großplanetarium
TRAVEL WELL:
People with superior communication abilities travel better. Fact. We make our own luck by communicating the best we can. Maybe I’m part idiot, but I believe in the innate decency of people, that people will be respectful, and that if someone does not update their RSVP and fails to attend it could be that they have had a serious accident and are in hospital. I suspect however, that many people are simply very inconsiderate, inconsiderate of the effort and time that go into organising gatherings. Communication begins the morning of the gathering, several hours before the gathering, and the method of communication is the democratic and securest messenger: Signal Messenger, which is also owned by a non-profit foundation, not by a billionaire.

This Starry Hour is in German, as far as I’m aware. From experience I know that we need quite good German language skills to understand a Starry Hour.
We are meeting from 5:30pm at the Zeiss Major Planetarium, Prenzlauer Allee 80, near S Prenzlauer Allee, where there is seating and possibly also a Café or Bar.

The question, “Does the Starry Hour have something to do with poetry? It doesn’t say anything about poetry...” was put to me. Well yes, poets often reference the stars, as far as I’m aware, which is a direction into astronomy, or even a gentle encouragement that we should keep our heads up and maintain our wellbeing. For example, the poet Philip Larkin in the poem ‘The North Ship’, in the first poem, tells with hwyl, “Under an fire-spilling star,”. For Poetry & Puls there is the context of the starry sky above us, as when we have no knowledge of astronomy we can’t read the poetry. Since we are interested in reading poetry, Starry Hours are good. Knowledge of the stars is also good for people on the move, and we like to often be on the move.

Diese Sternstunde ist auf Deutsch, soweit ich weiß. Von Erlebnis weiß ich, dass man ziemlich gutes Deutsch haben muss, um eine Sternstunde zu verstehen.
Wir begrüßen uns ab 17:30 Uhr bei Zeiss Groß Planetarium, Prenzlauer Allee 80, in der Nähe von S Prenzlauer Allee, wo es Sitzplätze und eventuell Café oder Lokal gibt..

Mir wurde die Frage gestellt „Hat die Sternstunde etwas mit Poetry zu tun? Da steht nichts von Poetry...“ Naja, Dichter nehmen oft Bezug auf die Sterne, glaube ich. Das ist eine Weisung in die Astronomie, halt einen Vorschlag, dass man den Kopf hochhalten und aufrechterhalten solle. Zum Beispiel, der Dichter Philip Larkin im Gedicht ‚The North Ship‘, im ersten Gedicht, erzählt „Under a fire-spilling star,“. Für Poetry gibt es die Umgebung von den Sternen, und wenn man keine Kenntnis von dieser Umgebung hat, kann man die Gedichte nicht ganz gut lesen. Denn wir uns für das Lesen von Gedichten interessieren, sind Sternstunden gut. Kenntnis von den Sternen sind auch gut wenn man unterwegs ist, und wir möchten oft unterwegs sein.

Prep your communication skills!
In this edition we open the space for some fun interactice games, to meet new people and use creative prompts to think outside the box and present yourself in ways you would usually not think of.
You'll rotate groups and partners and have moments to chat 1:1 as well as in larger settings. Nothing to deep and too personal, but still personal enought to meet others beyond the chit-chat of "how are you" and "where are you from".
In the best case, you not only connect with new people, but also more with yourself!
The location is a café, so at least a drink needs to be bought to participate.

The Language Café is primarily aimed at people who are struggling with their mental health which can make it hard to go to regular courses. We want to create a safe space for everyone to learn and practise without pressure. Everyone is welcome! Please try to be on time so we can all get started together :)
We mainly practise on a beginner/lower intermediate level and adapt to everyone's prior level of German.
The Language Café will focus on teaching you the most important words and phrases and basic grammar in German. The content of the course is adapted to real life. (everyday life in Germany, dealing with authorities, etc.) We will cover different topics every week and you can join us anytime, since the topics do not necessarily build on each other.

We are an international group (speaking English, German and Korean), enthusiastic and ambitious learning the art of traditional Taekwon-Do, meaning full perfection and power but no contact.
Our grandmaster Kang, Shin-Gyu is a student of famous grandmaster Kwon, Jae-Hwa, so that we can learn from the originals.
Sounds sophisticated? It is - and also a lot of fun!
Most of us are between 20 an 30 years old, half of them male and half female. But we welcome anybody any age! As a beginner you need nothing more than some comfortable sportswear.

I WRITE – A Silent Writing Club (Just You & Your Words)
Welcome to **I WRITE**, a gentle space for anyone who wants to write—quietly, freely, and without judgement.
We are a Berlin community of writers who gather together weekly to write, talk and recharge after a long week. Some of us journal, some write novels, some do academic writing, many people come without a project in mind and see where the inspiration flow takes them. This is a space to simply show up and write, a safe place to be yourself and to release all your layers onto the paper.
There’s no set topic, no feedback circle, and no pressure. Just warm people, a calm atmosphere, and time dedicated to yourself.

* 14:30 - 15:00 **→** 30 min arriving, optional socialising (arrive early, meet other writers)
* 15:00 - 16:00 **→** 1 hour of silent writing (headphones welcome, focus encouraged)
* 16:00–16:30 **→** 30 mins break + optional chat or solo time (stay and chat or go celebrate the rest of your Saturday)
* 16:30–17:30 → 1 more hour of silent writing (for those staying)
* 17:30–18:00 → 30 mins of chat, and leaving

Since then, it has been hosted weekly at the Heinrich Schulz Library (who is kind enough to allow us to use this room for free). I had a hard time finding an open jam session for beginners in Berlin. So I decided to create this group! Change Of Perspective: Writing From Unusual Angles
*Do you feel like all your texts sound the same, or are you simply stuck in a writing rut? You’re in good company—but it doesn’t have to stay that way! In this writing workshop, you’ll consciously shift your perspective and watch your stories come to life (again), perhaps even surprising you in the process.*
Instead of telling everything from your usual perspective, you try out new points of view: you write from other people’s voices, observe like a camera, slip into characters, things, or places. With playful exercises, short moments of mindfulness, and guided writing prompts, you break away from „this is how I always write“ and find completely new approaches to your texts.
You don’t need any finished ideas, a „perfect style,“ or talent. Just curiosity and a desire to experiment.
**The workshop will help you:**
* Overcome writer’s block
* Find new perspectives for your writing
* Write more creatively and boldly
* Break out of stuck patterns
* Create lively, multi-layered stories
* Rediscover the joy and ease of writing
Through several playful writing phases, reflection, and exchange, you will learn that sometimes all it takes is a new perspective—and a whole new story emerges.
This workshop is part 4 of the workshop series „The Mindful Artist’s Way“ and can be booked individually or as part of a package. It’s never too late to join, and each workshop is self-contained and effective on its own.
All you need is yourself + a laptop or pen and paper. If you like to write with music in your ears, feel free to bring headphones—I’ve prepared a playlist for you. It’s best to wear something comfortable so that you can move freely and feel completely at ease.

Chitta Walks - Awareness in Motion
Chitta Walks is for people whose days move fast, while the mind never fully lands. Thoughts keep looping even when nothing is urgent. The body moves, but attention is elsewhere. Over time, this disconnect drains clarity and ease.
This walk is a simple reset.
We meet in Berlin’s Tiergarten and walk at a gentle pace. Parts of the walk are in silence, with light guidance and a few short prompts. The walk itself is the practice, bringing body and mind back into the same moment.
No apps. No performance. Just a clear space to slow down and notice what is happening.

With a background in physics and materials science, my interest in mindfulness grew through personal experience with stress and health challenges. I facilitate the space and structure of the walk, inviting shared exploration rather than instruction.
🤔 **Why Chitta Walks?**
Chitta is a Sanskrit word referring to the mind or field of awareness, used here in a practical, non-religious sense.
Chitta Walks is about noticing how the mind works by slowing down and walking together. Mindful walking makes thought patterns visible in real time, while moving and sensing in the world.
The name points to a simple capacity: noticing what is happening in the mind without immediately trying to fix, judge, or optimize it.

Using Philosophy to Cope with Current Events
So this month's prompt is more general. I think we can all agree that we are living in "unique" times that require coping skills. I think that one role and/or purpose of philosophy is to help us deal with our daily lives and our "unique" times. So, let's share our feelings and thoughts about which philosopher/philosophy we turn to in order to deal with our crazy events. Who/what helps you stay focused in your daily life and helps you sleep at night. I find that Stoicism with a little philosophical pessimism mixed in goes a long way in helping me deal with what I see as very destructive, fearful and mean spirited public policies at both the state and federal levels. **HOW IT WORKS**
**Step 1: Bring a topic**
Before you arrive, think of **one** topic you want to explore. A question. A thought that's been on your mind. An obsession you want to geek out on. This is your ticket to the event.
**Step 2: Circle up & share**
We gather in a circle. Your friendly walk host gives a speech to set the tone. Everyone shares: your name, what you're grateful for, and your topic. That's it. 60 seconds.
**Step 3: Walk, talk & float**
We walk 5 miles. You naturally drift into conversation with 2-3 people at a time, pulled by topics that spark your curiosity. When you're ready to move on, just say: "I'm going to float!"
**Step 4: Feel more alive**
Two hours flies by. You're back where you started — but you feel different. More alive. More energized. More connected to yourself and others. That's why regulars join 20+ times.

A great topic = something you're genuinely curious about.
Recent topics include:

Think of your topic like the dish you're bringing to our conversational potluck. If everyone brings an A+ dish (i.e. energizing, uplifting, expansive), we'll all walk away feeling lighter and brighter.

This isn't a fitness event with casual chitchat. It's a walking think tank where we explore life's big questions together, beyond small talk. *If you're looking for light banter or a standard networking event, this probably isn't the right fit.*

Let's try a Friday Night Fish Fry!
We thought of one of the interesting things that can be enjoyed at this time of the year. We will be meeting at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for a "Fish Fry" in Marian Hall on Friday, March 27th at 5:00 PM.
It might be fun for you to experience what has become a tradition on the Fridays before Easter. They will have fried fish or baked fish, French fries and Cole slaw, as well as beverages, all for $16.00 for adults. They will have other beverages and desserts available for sale, as well. We have never tried this, and sometimes there are quite a few people at these events so we hope that we will be able to find each other easily. I'll try to have signs outside Marian Hall that Identify our group. We hope to have you join us!
