Dry January Euchre at Binge
Dry January Euchre at Binge
Dry January is a month when many people voluntarily stop drinking alcohol after the excesses of the holidays & start the new year on a sober, clearer, more refreshed & healthy note. Throughout January are you taking the opportunity to explore different habits & activities to add to your self-care routine? Do you like supporting small businesses? Have you ever wanted to try "alcohol free" spirits? If so, I’ve got the venue for you! **Come check-out [Binge](https://www.instagram.com/bingebardc/) with me.** **Please be mindful of the start and end times (6:30-9:30 pm) of this meetup.** Please RSVP to indicate your attendance. If your plans change & you are unable to attend, please update your RSVP. Regular no-show or late notices may get you dropped from the group. It is important that we are able to provide an accurate count to the venue (really important for this meetup since it's our 2nd time there) and that all people who want to AND are able to attend are able to do so. If something comes up at the last minute, please reach out to us. **We ask all attendees to pay $1 to participate in the meetup.** This money helps maintain our meetup membership & cover various meetup costs that arise. You can pay $1 on Venmo @amanda-uherek, via Pay-Pal, or in-person (please choose paying friend/family not a business, good or service). *REMINDER:* everyone is responsible for their own tabs. If you have questions / comments / suggestions please message us. We will have hand sanitizer & decks of cards on hand, you bring the talent & trash talk! Hope to see some of you. Amanda

Pet Loss Support Group
Pet Loss Support Group
This gathering will be a safe place for those who are anticipating, in the midst of, or recovering from companion animal loss. Our beloved companions are considered family and the grief can be overwhelming when each reaches their time to go. Speaking about our beloveds helps validate and honor them; sharing the pain allows us to understand and process. We don’t recover from grief or go through it. We learn to carry it with us, allowing the pain to evolve into memories and ongoing love. We hope to minimize regret or guilt by being our companions’ steward and advocate. There is no cost or expectation, other than compassion for all without judgment. Each person can share their situation, fears, memories, questions, resources that have been helpful. The facilitator is a certified Pet Loss Doula (University of Vermont) who has experienced pet loss many times. Send questions to petlossdoula@gmail.com.
"Paint Your Pet" at Muse Paintbar in Ballston!
"Paint Your Pet" at Muse Paintbar in Ballston!
We've done this before and it was so fun! They make it easy — you email a photo of your pet or favorite animal (of any species) to the studio beforehand, and they have a system for projecting it onto the canvas to give you a template for your painting. An instructor also helps guide us through the process, while we also enjoy each other's company and also drinks and snacks if we choose. How to join: **Sign up and pay for the event at this link (Please do so soon, since it is likely to sell out):** **[https://www.musepaintbar.com/events/backlit-art-300613](https://www.musepaintbar.com/events/backlit-art-300613)** **IMPORTANT NOTE: CHOOSE MY NAME "PATRICIA L" as your GROUP so we will be seated together!** The cost is $55, but when you go to their website, if you sign up for emails you can get a discount. This covers the painting instruction and materials. Food and drink are at an additional cost. Note that they do not give cash refunds, but you will get credit to join a future event if you cancel. Getting there: It's very close to the Ballston metro station and steps away from the Ballston Mall parking garage which costs just $1.00. The studio is a little bit tricky to find; here are their instructions: Muse Paintbar Ballston is located inside Ballston Quarter, in the outdoor plaza that runs parallel to Wilson Blvd, next to the CVS. We are not visible from the street—to find us, round the corner to the right of Punch Bowl Social. From the Main Mall Entrance: Look left to see the breezeway, exit outside, and we’ll be on your left, across from PR Run & Walk. From the Parking Garage: Take the elevator to Level M1, turn right off the elevators, then turn right again to exit to the breezeway. We’ll be on your left, across from PR Run & Walk. The painting event starts at 7, but they suggest we arrive between 6:30 and 6:45 to get settled. This is a little late for me :) but I'm so excited about joining another painting event with FFF>50 friends and going home with a painting of my second cat 😸 Also: Please join Finding Female Friends Past Fifty at our new home on Mighty Networks! This group on Meetup will soon go away, and we are continuing our connections, friendship and fun on the new platform which gives us a safer, more private space for discussion and connection as well as great events, and no pressure to pay/upgrade. [Just go here to join ](https://community.fff50.org/share/dbWb9iJu5XwSN2TR?utm_source=manual)the national network and then join our local Washington DC group! Looking forward to seeing you there!

PawsUP for David and Brick for originally suggesting this awesome meetup and our dogs love it! -Dumbarton Oaks/Montrose Park in Georgetown -Meet at the entrance off of R st, on the East side (closer to the cemetery) -Plenty of street parking in the area -Bring water and a ball for your Aussie This park is a very large open field, that is very dog friendly. Tons of space to run and chase. Most if not all dogs are off leash. Occasional runners and kids (there is a playground), so keep that in mind. There is also a trail inside with a stream that the dogs love to play in.
Hike: Tuscarora/Eagle Rock, VA
Hike: Tuscarora/Eagle Rock, VA
(Bus hike) Today's there-and-back hikes go along the section of the Tuscarora Trail that straddles the state line between Virginia and West Virginia on the ridge line of Great North Mountain. This section of the Tuscarora Trail runs along the ridge line of Great North Mountain and provides extensive views both the west and the east. All hikers start from Rte. 55 and go up to Eagles Nest Overlook. At this point moderate hikers lunch, enjoy the view to the area at Capon Springs Resort, and then return. Long hikers continue to a second overlook at the power line crossing, which also provides extensive views, lunch, and then return. The absence of foliage during this season enables hikers to obtain views of the valleys to the east and the west, even in places that are not designated as overlooks. Est.: 12.5 miles, 1700' and 7 miles, 1200'. Tuscarora Trail Guide. Fare: $33. VA Hikes * **[DC: Near 17th and K St. NW](https://bit.ly/17thandKnu)** downtown (east side of Farragut Square). Bus leaves at 8 a.m. SHARP, so it's essential to arrive well before 8 am. * **[Vienna Metro: NORTH parking lot](http://bit.ly/vienna-bus)**, last bus shelter (Nutley St. Exit off Interstate 66 on North/Vienna side of I-66) at approximately 8:25 a.m. Park at 9486 Virginia Center Blvd, Vienna, VA 22181 * * Caution: The "south" parking lot also has bus shelters. If by 8:15, you're not with a group of Wanderbirds hikers, you may be in the south lot. There's a walkway that passes the fare gates over I-66 to the north lot. RESERVATIONS Wanderbirds Hiking Club is a 501(c)(7) non-profit, and the public is invited on all hiking trips. Reservations are accepted as late as Saturday, but reserving as early in the week as possible helps ensure your spot and prevent cancellation of the hike due to low sign-ups. RSVP through Meetup and pay through PayPal. Please be sure your RSVP gives your full name and phone number and where you'll be boarding the bus. FIRST-TIME HIKERS If you're a first-time hiker with us, please notify the leaders in advance so they can make sure you have the info you need. Hikers must be able to keep a 2-mph pace. New hikers are required to first complete a moderate hike. **Liability Waiver:** Many of our hikes take place in remote wilderness areas where cell phone service is not available. Any person participating in any Club activity is responsible for their own safety, health and welfare, and must assume all risks and liabilities related to all Club activities. The Club, its hike leaders, hike sweeps, officers, and other representatives are not liable for any injuries, losses, or damage to persons, children, pets, and/or property, arising from any trips or activities of the Club. You are responsible for bringing enough water, food, and first aid supplies, including those for your personal medical conditions. CANCELLATION POLICY To cancel and receive a full bus hike refund, less a $5 processing fee, you must change your RSVP to "No" on Meetup **before NOON on the Friday** before the hike. If you change your RSVP after noon on the Friday before the hike, no refunds will be issued. Cancellations to Metro/carpool/trailhead hikes will not issue a financial refund, but hiker must change their Meetup RSVP to NO so that leaders do not wait for them at the trailhead. COVID PRECAUTIONS Anyone experiencing symptoms of upper respiratory illness should not attend the event. MORE DETAILS -- [SEE THE FAQS ON OUR WEBSITE](http://www.wanderbirds.org/faq.html)

Run and Get Dirty! Adult Dogs in the main park, puppies in the small dog park
Our regular Sunday meetup at the Shirlington Dog Park -- members start arriving around 10:15 a.m. You'll always find an Aussie to play with. There are 3 entrances, so wander the park -- the dogs will find each other! For puppies, Shirlington has a small dog park within the larger dog park. It's the prefect place for your puppy to gain confidence and socialize with others. There is also plenty of room to run. Just a reminder, the Dog Park is under attack by the Arlington County Board of Commissioners. While early plans to decrease the size of the park by 50% has been tabled, it's important to remind Arlington County how important this park is to dogs and owners.
