Run and Get Dirty! Adult Dogs in the main park, puppies in the small dog park
Our regular Sunday meetup at the Shirlington Dog Park -- members start arriving around 10:15 a.m. You'll always find an Aussie to play with. There are 3 entrances, so wander the park -- the dogs will find each other!
For puppies, Shirlington has a small dog park within the larger dog park. It's the prefect place for your puppy to gain confidence and socialize with others. There is also plenty of room to run.
Just a reminder, the Dog Park is under attack by the Arlington County Board of Commissioners. While early plans to decrease the size of the park by 50% has been tabled, it's important to remind Arlington County how important this park is to dogs and owners. Here are links to the change.org petition and the Facebook page where you can get updates.

Hike: Appalachian Trail / Snowy Mountain to Pen Mar, PA
(Bus hike) (REMEMBER TO SET CLOCKS FORWARD ONE HOUR FOR DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME). We do not often visit this section of the AT, but Snowy Mountain, the central mountain in Michaux State Park, is also its highest. It provides excellent views of Pennsylvaniaâs rolling mountain scenery. The summit ridge is covered with white quartz, some of which has formed into crystals. Some of the quartz is mixed into conglomerate which makes for many interesting designs as well, which may have led to the mountain's name. Long hikers will begin from Rte. 233, going over Buzzard Peak, with an optional detour to the view at Chimney Rocks. Moderate hikers will begin at Old Forge Rd. at Penn Camp. All hikers will continue past the Deer Lick shelters and, eventually, the Mason-Dixon Line marker, ending up at Pen Mar Park, which provides one of the most expansive scenic overlooks in Southern Pennsylvania. Est.: 13.5 miles, 2200' elevation and 7.5 miles, 1700' elevation. Fare: $33.

RESERVATIONS
Wanderbirds Hiking Club is a 501(c)(7) non-profit, and the public is invited on all hiking trips. Reservations are accepted as late as Saturday, but reserving as early in the week as possible helps ensure your spot and prevent cancellation of the hike due to low sign-ups. RSVP through Meetup and pay through PayPal. Please be sure your RSVP gives your full name and phone number and where you'll be boarding the bus.
FIRST-TIME HIKERS
If you're a first-time hiker with us, please notify the leaders in advance so they can make sure you have the info you need. Hikers must be able to keep a 2-mph pace. New hikers are required to first complete a moderate hike.
**Liability Waiver:** Many of our hikes take place in remote wilderness areas where cell phone service is not available. Any person participating in any Club activity is responsible for their own safety, health and welfare, and must assume all risks and liabilities related to all Club activities. The Club, its hike leaders, hike sweeps, officers, and other representatives are not liable for any injuries, losses, or damage to persons, children, pets, and/or property, arising from any trips or activities of the Club. You are responsible for bringing enough water, food, and first aid supplies, including those for your personal medical conditions.
CANCELLATION POLICY
To cancel and receive a full bus hike refund, less a $5 processing fee, you must change your RSVP to "No" on Meetup **before NOON on the Friday** before the hike. If you change your RSVP after noon on the Friday before the hike, no refunds will be issued.
Cancellations to Metro/carpool/trailhead hikes will not issue a financial refund, but hiker must change their Meetup RSVP to NO so that leaders do not wait for them at the trailhead.
COVID PRECAUTIONS
Anyone experiencing symptoms of upper respiratory illness should not attend the event.

Two Strong Wings: Advancing the Equality of Women & Men (Free Event)
Can humanity truly reach its full potential without all of its members being free to reach and contribute their all? Is equality a tug of war where one side gains at anotherâs expense? Does empowering women require taking opportunities away from men, or does it actually strengthen the whole and create more opportunities and a better world for everyone?
If a bird has one broken wing, it isnât able to fly or live a full and healthy life. Could this same thinking apply to the balance of men and women? The two wings of a bird do not fight for power, strength or dominance. Both wings need to be of equal strength for the bird to soar. Can humanity truly advance if women do not enjoy the same rights, prerogatives and opportunities as men? How can we work to ensure that we are building communities where everyone has the same opportunities to grow and develop and to contribute to the advancement of humanity together?
Come join a different kind of conversation â one that welcomes every perspective in a search for the truths that unite us all â as we discuss the spiritual perspective offered by the BahĂĄâĂ Teachings on the essential equality of the sexes. Join us for a lively discussion as we explore how achieving that equality is needed for all of humanity to progress and reach its full potential.
*âThe world of humanity has two wings â one is women and the other men. Not until both wings are equally developed can the bird fly. Should one wing remain weak, flight is impossible. â* â BahĂĄâĂ Teachings
\*\*\* This event is free and open to all regardless of background or belief. Donations will not be accepted.
The Power of the Subconscious Mind
**THE POWER OF THE SUBCONSCIOUS OVER YOU**
You are welcome to arrive 15 minutes early for refreshments!
At the lecture "The Power of the Subconscious", the speaker will clearly and understandably explain topics such as:
What is the exact definition of the Subconscious Mind?
How does it inflict unwanted feelings and anxiety in you?
What determines how much pressure it exerts on a person?
What exactly is the goal of the subconscious?
This is not just a lecture where you sit quietly and listen. It's interactive and LIVE, so you can ask questions at any time.
And the most important topic:
**HOW DO YOU TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR SUBCOUNSCIOUS!**
This group is sponsored by the Dianetics Life Improvement Center.
March Into Spring
Put a spring in your step and march into spring with your fellow autistics at Cleveland Park Library! Conveniently located at 3310 Connecticut Ave. NW just blocks from Cleveland Park Metro on the Red Line in Washington, DC, the library is in the safe and walkable Cleveland Park neighborhood.
We will meet in Meeting Room 1, which is located on the first floor of the library. Food is prohibited, but covered drinks are permitted.
I will be bringing my UNO card game and PowerPuff Girls board game. Feel free to bring games if you like, but it's not required.
We typically go out to lunch afterwards at Fat Pete's, a BBQ place which also has salads, pizza, and other non-BBQ options. PJ, the owner, has personally told me to call him and let him know when we're coming so he can sit us in a sensory-friendly space. If PJ says the place is too noisy, there are many other restaurants in Cleveland Park. Fat Pete's is located at 3407 Connecticut Ave. NW in Washington, DC, just across the street and a block away from the library.
If you're running late or get lost, please call or text me at 202-802-3238.

¡ Drones ¡ by Benson & Busch @ Beatley Library
Many popular movies about flying machines bear the title âDrones,â but this isnât one of them. No, this is a little-known gem about love in the workplace possibly leading to the destruction of planet Earth. Witty writing, solid acting, and slick direction all work together in this movie like bees in a hive, which coincidentally is the point of the title. The cubicle-bound employees of a vast corporation attend to their various tasks, each contributing to the productivity of the whole. But wait â is one of these workers not like the others? And if so, what is this personâs true agenda? When the answers to these questions arrive, the story gets hilariously crazy. The R rating is earned strictly by occasional rude language in this dialogue-driven production, and bluntly your host thinks PG-13 would have been sufficient.

This hidden gem is densely populated by numerous species of wildlife, high-quality forest and features spectacular rock and massive boulder outcropping throughout the park. This area remains undeveloped for some of the best hiking trails around! The Hawlings River passes through the park and almost the entire hike is along this beautiful river. Rachel Carson offers 650 acres of undisturbed wooded parkland and trails surrounding the Hawlings River in upper Montgomery County. Amenities: This is a "conservation park," which means there are no bathrooms and no water available. The trail is not well marked in some areas, downloading the map ahead of time is helpful for navigating.
