Silent Reading / Creating Club at W66 (Saturday) [Luma to RSVP]
Silent Reading / Creating Club at W66 (Saturday) [Luma to RSVP]
RSVP on Luma: https://luma.com/h4xm63a4 Silent Reading / Creating Club is a gathering for people who enjoy focusing together in public. Bring a book, a notebook, a sketchpad, knitting needles — whatever you’d like to spend a quiet hour with. All projects and all participants are welcome. This year is about creating more — quietly, consistently, imperfectly — and shaping environments that support that. If you’re building something of your own, you’re especially welcome here. We’re building a community of readers and creators who value depth, presence, and shared silence. The magic isn’t just in the quiet hour — it’s in the people who return and make it feel like a familiar room. (Please RSVP “yes” only if you can make it, so we can save a seat for you and others on the waitlist.) This quiet ritual unfolds at **W66 Café**. There’s no entrance fee, but please order at least one item from the café and don’t bring outside drinks 🙂 No assignments. No pressure. No productivity race. Just a shared hour of intentional silence, followed by relaxed conversation. 🕰 Our Agenda **10:30 – 11:00** Arrivals, ordering drinks/food, light social time **11:00 – 12:00** The Great Quiet Hour (Read. Write. Sketch. Code. Think. Sit.) **12:00 – 12:30** Optional socializing — share what you were reading or creating, or simply continue in quiet focus. ## **🏡 House Guidelines** To keep this space calm and welcoming for everyone: • Silence during the focus hour (no calls or conversations) • Phones on silent mode • If using a laptop, please avoid meetings or audio — headphones welcome • Arrive before 11:00 if possible to minimize disruptions

Philosophy Discussion Meetup – Exploring Life’s Big Questions Through Books Join us for an open and friendly philosophy meetup where we explore life’s deepest questions through thoughtful conversation, shared reading, and discussion. Each participant is welcome to bring a book they are currently reading and share interesting ideas or questions from it. One of our main reference books is Sophie's World, which we often use as a starting point for discussion. 🗓 What to Expect Each meeting follows a relaxed and engaging format: Welcome & Introductions (10 minutes) Brief introductions and sharing what everyone is reading. Book & Topic Sharing (20 minutes) Participants present a short passage, idea, or question from their book. Group Discussion (45–60 minutes) Open discussion based on the shared material, often inspired by Sophie's World and related philosophical themes. Wrap-Up & Social Time (15 minutes) Final reflections and informal conversation. No prior philosophy background is required—curiosity and openness are enough. 🎒 What to Bring Please bring: A book you are currently reading (optional but encouraged) One or two questions or ideas from your book A notebook and pen (optional) If you don’t have a book, you are still very welcome to join and participate. 📍 How to Find Us We meet at: Milchkaffee Kirchstraße 5, 12555, · Berlin, DE Look for a group with books and notebooks on the table Please arrive at least at max 15 min late. The Café will take the empty seats of our table after that. So if you arrive after that, you might not have a place to sit. 🤝 Group Values Respectful and open discussion No judging or “winning” arguments Everyone gets a chance to speak Different viewpoints are welcome Curiosity over certainty Whether you are new to philosophy or a long-time reader, this group offers a supportive space to think together and learn from one another. We look forward to reading, questioning, and reflecting with you.

Networking & Language Exchange -🍖international🍻
Networking & Language Exchange -🍖international🍻
This is a 3 phase meetup. You can come at any time. 1.) 6:45 -7:00 p.m.: Gathering at the meeting spot (see gmaps link!) 2.) 7:00 - 7:30 p.m.: Walk & Talk to the Kerb food court. 3.) 7:30 - 10:00 p.m.: Immerse conversations in the Kerb food court. 🪑: Reserved tables for the meetup. **1.) How to the find Quartier 205 Stadtmitte:** [https://goo.gl/maps/6Fhft3LbPhcEsQrdA](https://goo.gl/maps/6Fhft3LbPhcEsQrdA) The exact meeting spot can be seen in the photo below! We meet on the 1st floor where the trash sculpture can be seen. Look for a meetup sign or organizer wearing a black or red lanyard with "staff" written on it. **2.) Walk & Talk to the Kerb food court** The best part. This time we'll walk all the way to Checkpoint Charlie, pass the Gropius Bau and end at the former Sony Center where our final destination - the Kerb food court - is located. **3\. How to find the Kerb food court** [https://maps.app.goo.gl/xJTQg9oBoGL67syz7](https://maps.app.goo.gl/xJTQg9oBoGL67syz7) Kerb is located at the former Sony Center. The new flagship food court of Potsdamer Platz. Most likely we will be sitting upstairs on the first floor next to the bar (take the stairs to the left). ***Best ways to get there:*** 1\. U2 \(subway\): Get off at Potsdamer Platz and walk around 7 min to Kerb. 2\. Bus M41 or M85 Get off at Potsdamer Platz and walk 5 min to Kerb. *Who is this meetup for:* 1\. Internationals who want to practice German or any other language\. 2\. Germans who want to improve their language skills\. 3\. Anyone who is interested in cultural exchange and wants to socialize\. *What you can expect:* 1\. A professionally organized meetup that can adapt to any changes given the current situation\. 2\. A Walk & Talk to break the ice\. 3\. A collaborating venue where you can further socialize with other members\. *important:* This event is at the same time and meeting location like the "Asian Languages & Culture Exchange 🍜日本語, 한국어, 汉语🍥" one. So I'm basically organizing 2 events at the same time which means that you can expect way more people than on the list. *** Whenever you attend a meetup, the most common as well as first question you get is: "Where are you from?" You probably heard this question a million times. Well, at least I did. From my own experience of attending over 200 international meetups in various countries such as Germany, Japan, Australia and Thailand, I can tell you that asking for the name is a better approach. “A person’s name is to that person, the sweetest, most important sound in any language.” - Dale Carnegie If you really want to connect with like-minded people you should remember their name, but you don't have to remember every persons name you've talked you. Be picky about that, don't be me who can somehow remember everyones name easily. Don't tell yourself sth. like "I'm bad at remembering names." It's all about developing the habit of asking for a name and keep the conversation going on. Furthermore, you want to learn German or any other language. Learning the local language is crucial to connect with the locals and developing a true friendship. This can be accomplished with immersion. My goal is to inspire you to go out of your comfort zone and improve yourself each time you join this meetup.

Let's Meet Up and Practice Languages
Let's Meet Up and Practice Languages
(Inside event) Are you learning a language but can't find people to practice with? Do you enjoy helping people speak your native language? If so, meet with us to make friends and have some good conversations. We begin by sharing the languages we speak fluently and the ones we are learning. Then we split into groups and speak! You can switch groups as often as you'd like. The goal is to speak about interesting, thought-provoking topics - not just the typical introductions we usually make. At our last meetups we spoke: German, Ukranian, English, French, Hebrew, Russian, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Hindi, Chinese, Greek, Japanese, Turkish, Polish, Swedish, Arabic, Norwegian, Icelandic, and Dutch. Can you help us make this list bigger? We hope to see you there and welcome ANY and ALL languages. (However, we cannot guarantee we will have a speaking partner for all languages). Looking forward to see you all! 😁
📚 HFH Book Club — First Meeting "Empire of AI" by Karen Hao
📚 HFH Book Club — First Meeting "Empire of AI" by Karen Hao
**Fellow Humans, we're starting a book club!** We focus on understanding what's actually happening on the crowded stage of AI: the companies driving the AI race, the decisions being made on our behalf, and what it all means for the rest of us. Every few weeks, we'll choose and read one book together and talk about it. Bring your **thoughts**, your **questions**, your **highlighted passages**, and your **honest reactions**. **Our first pick: *Empire of AI* by Karen Hao**, who has worked for The Wall Street Journal and contributes to The Atlantic. *She argues that the pursuit of an artificial superintelligence has become its own figurative paper clip factory, devouring too much energy, minerals and human labour. She portrays OpenAI and other companies that make up the fast‑growing A.I. sector as a “modern-day colonial world order.”* (excerpt from the NYT review) **What to expect:** A relaxed, semi-structured conversation (around 2 hours). We'll dig into the themes together, share what stood out, and connect the ideas to what we're actually experiencing. **No expertise required, just read the book and show up curious.** **Why a book club?** Because some things can't be captured in a headline or a 60-second video. The questions AI raises for our work, our relationships, and our futures deserve more than a scroll. They deserve a real conversation with real people, and a book gives us common ground to start from. **After this first Meetup, you help define what's next!** Suggest books that have changed how you think about AI, technology, or what it means to be Human. This is your club. **No tech background needed. Just curiosity and willingness to think out loud with fellow critical thinkers.** **Join our [LinkedIn Group](https://www.linkedin.com/groups/10088542/) and [Substack](https://humanfuturehub.substack.com/)** for articles, perspectives, and resources between events. See you there, Your HFH Team! **Humans, together. Nobody is left behind.** ❤️

As punishment, she was turned into a wooden statue and tucked away into an alcove in the North Reading Room of the Great Library of Alyssium. This should have been the end of her story . . . Yet one day, Terlu wakes in the cold of winter on a nearly-deserted island full of hundreds of magical greenhouses. She’s starving and freezing, and the only other human on the island is a grumpy gardener. To her surprise, he offers Terlu a place to sleep, clean clothes, and freshly baked honey cakes—at least until she’s ready to sail home. But Terlu can’t return home and doesn’t want to—the greenhouses are a dream come true, each more wondrous than the next. When she learns that the magic that sustains them is failing—causing the death of everything within them—Terlu knows she must help. Even if that means breaking the law again. This time, though, she isn’t alone. Assisted by the gardener and a sentient rose, Terlu must unravel the secrets of a long-dead sorcerer if she wants to save the island—and have a fresh chance at happiness and love.

Humanist Program: Fighting the Efforts to Insert Religion into Public Education
The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event. Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk. Our March speakers are Molly Gaines and Zack Parrish, co-organizers of the Secular Education Association: They will share their story of how a small group of Ohio parents grew into a national organization tracking released-time religious instruction and other church–state issues in public schools. The presentation will cover SEA’s early wins and hard lessons, what we’re seeing nationally right now, and how local advocates can play a meaningful role in protecting public education. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of the landscape — and practical ways to get involved. Going forward our meetings will be hybrid.
