This is a follow-on workshop to the Studio Introduction workshop. If you attend that workshop then you will be prioritised for this one. Have you ever wanted to dive into portrait photography but didn't know where to start? Or perhaps you know the basics but want to refine your lighting and directing skills? Join us for a relaxed and supportive workshop designed to help you get comfortable photographing people. Working with a professional model changes everything—it allows you to focus on your camera and creativity without the stress. **What we will explore together:** * **Foolproof Lighting:** Learn the classic lighting setups that guarantee flattering results every time. * **The Art of Direction:** Discover how to communicate with your subject to get natural, expressive poses. * **Portfolio Building:** Walk away with stunning images and the confidence to set up your own shoots. **Open to members and non-members.** Come for the photography, stay for the networking! All you need is a camera with a portrait lens and some enthusiasm. The event fee is CHF 100. Please understand that in case you cancel close to the event, we will ask you to pay anyway, as we have to pay for the model and the studio.

Bouldering is like a whole body puzzle! And if you never tried we would be happy to have you join us! And the best part is...it's fun and challenging at every level. It is Rock climbing without the ropes, but with lower heights and nice \*soft mats\* to break your fall. :) At Boulderlounge Schlieren we have many routes and skilled staff. We are usually a group of 10-15. And we usually meet at 19:00 at the entrance of Boulderlouge. Join us on a short (\~2.5km) photowalk around the centre of Zürich at night for long exposure and/or high ISO photography of the architecture, lights, and reflections of the city. We will split into three groups of six walking around central Zurich, with two groups along the Bahnhofstrasse to Bürkliplatz and Quaibrücke and then back up the side of the Limmat towards the main station or in the reverse direction and one group walking around the Landesmuseum, Central, down the Niederdorfstrasse towards Bellvue and back up the Limmat towards the station. Open to beginners and experienced photographers. If you need any advice, someone from the group will be happy to help you. Meet us under *L'ange protecteur* in the concourse of the main station between 19:00 and 19:10. **What to bring?** * Your favourite camera and lenses and a tripod * Suitable clothes for standing around in the evening weather!

As you may or may not know--I didn't until late last year--Aristotle wrote extensively on "friendship" in the Nicomachean Ethics. After 69 years the concept of friendship still creates questions and uncertainty. I had close friends in high school and for a few years after high school but our interests diverged and people moved all over the country so it was hard to maintain connections. * So if I/you haven't talked with a friend for several years, are you still friends? Are we friends who meet at Drunken Philosophy or Omnipresent Atheists? * Can you be friends with someone with whom you have virulently divergent political views? Sartre and Camus could not. * Aristotle regarded friendship as essential to a good life, not merely an added "bonus." Do you agree? * In the Nicomachean Ethics (Books VIII and IX), he claims that wealth and power are meaningless without friends. Trump has wealth and power but seems to have no real friends, but wealth and power seem meaningful to him in perverted ways. Can you have meaning in your life without friends? * Do men and women view and maintain friendships in different ways? * Aristotle categorizes friendship into three types, based on what forms the bond: * **Utility**: Based on mutual benefit, but this type is fragile and ends when the usefulness ceases. * **Pleasure**: Based on shared enjoyment (e.g., humor, hobbies). Common among youth but fades as interests change. * **Virtue (The "Complete" Friendship)**: Based on mutual respect for each other's character and goodness. You wish good for the other for their sake, not yours. * **Key Principles of "True" (Virtuous) Friendship:** * **Permanence**: Virtuous friendships last a lifetime whereas those based on utility and pleasure are fleeting. * **Reciprocity**: Requires mutual goodwill; secret or unreciprocated affection does not qualify. * **The "Second Self"**: A true friend is "another self"—their virtue helps you understand and improve yourself. * **Time and Intimacy**: Deep ("complete") friendships are few, built on time and shared experiences. * **Self-Love and Friendship:** * Good friendship starts with being a friend to yourself. * They distinguish shallow egoism (chasing honors) from real self-love (pursuing virtue). * A virtuous person’s pleasant self-company allows them to be a stable, good friend to others. * Aristotle argues that one's social circle ultimately reflects one's character—a view with striking relevance today. Well--the Drunken Philosophy social circle certainly reflects good character!
