Every set is performed in English by a mix of Swiss-based and international comics, so no Swiss-German skills required. * ***What’s a “Comedy Open Mic”?*** It’s the testing ground for jokes. Pros road-test fresh material and brave newcomers grab their first five minutes. Expect some gems, some flops—and the fun of seeing comedy born in real time. * ***Will it be funny?*** Most of the time, yes! An open mic is a roller-coaster: seasoned acts, new voices, and the occasional glorious train-wreck. It’s all part of the charm. * ***Can I perform too?*** Yes - you need to book a spot - find out more about how to do it here: [https://inyourfacecomedy.ch/perform/](https://inyourfacecomedy.ch/perform/). * ***Do I need to buy tickets in advance?*** Please do. We’re usually running around before the show and door sales slow things down. If you’re stuck, we’ll try, but no promises. Link to tickets as at [https://inyourfacecomedy.ch/comedybrew/](https://inyourfacecomedy.ch/comedybrew/) * ***How does seating work?*** First come, first served so grab a drink, snag a seat, and settle in. * ***Is food available at the bar?*** ROBIN’s serves drinks only. For a pre-show bite, try **Restaurant Johanniter** (classic Swiss) or **Holy Cow!** across the street for burgers. * ***Will the comedians pick on me?*** We chat with the crowd for laughs, not humiliation. Friendly banter only - you’re safe. * ***How long is the show?*** Doors open 7:30pm, show starts \~7:50pm with a 15 min break in the middle ending around 10pm. Enough time for the last trams home... * ***Age limit?*** All ages welcome of course 16+ recommended (adult themes, spicy language).
Ink & Drink: words for loved ones 🫂 👯🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒
Ink & Drink: words for loved ones 🫂 👯🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒
✒️Ink & Drink is a creative writing evening in English, designed as a relaxed and social gathering around words, ideas, and a shared drink — in a warm, book-filled setting. 🫶With Valentine’s Day approaching, this special edition will explore love in its universal sense: romantic love, friendship, family, self-love, gratitude, or affection for someone who matters to you. 📚We’ll begin the evening with a short shared reading of a few carefully selected letter excerpts in English, meant simply as inspiration.
✍️This will be followed by a playful warm-up exercise to gently ease into writing — no pressure, no performance. ❤️The main part of the evening will be dedicated to writing a message or a letter to someone you care about.
You’ll be free to write something personal, poetic, simple, or symbolic — entirely at your own pace. ✂️A selection of creative materials will be available during the session (colored papers, different formats, pens, stickers, etc.), as well as the option to try simple paper folding to turn your text into a small crafted object or letter. This is not a class and no prior writing experience is needed.
The focus is on creating a welcoming space where writing can happen naturally, supported by gentle prompts and shared inspiration. ☕️Participation is free — please support the venue by ordering at least one drink. Whether you come to write, to reconnect with words, or simply to spend a creative evening before Valentine’s Day, you’re very welcome. Looking forward to writing together! ✍️✨

Valentine: Why You Are the Most Important Love!
**[Buy Ticket here & read full Description](https://rootforwings.cohere.live/whyyouarethemostimportantlove)** **From Co-Dependence to Conscious Togetherness** **A Root for Wings Experience** Most of us were never taught how to love **without losing ourselves**. We learned to adapt. To over-give. To people-please. To dim our light in order to belong. And so we keep cycling through relationships where we are not fully seen, not fully met, not fully honoured for who we truly are. This HeartFlow Alignment™ meetup is an invitation to pause that cycle — and return to the most important relationship of all: **the one with yourself**. Because only when you root deeply into your own heart can your wings truly expand into **healthy, respectful togetherness**. *** ### ### 🤍 Invitation When you choose yourself with honesty and love, you don’t lose connection — you **create the right kind of togetherness**. Come as you are. Bring your heart. Let your wings remember how they were meant to expand.

Farewell toast to Raul @ Splendid Piano Bar from 21.00
Farewell toast to Raul @ Splendid Piano Bar from 21.00
With a heavy heart and profound sadness I have to report the passing of a very good friend of mine Mr. Raul Heiduk who many of you know in the Expat Community He was a frequent visitor to Expat events and a regular member of my Meetup group events . I travelled extensively with him to visit his homes in Spain, Thailand, and Brazil. Unfortunately after the last trip in November he came down with very bad back pain and a massive nosebleed here in Zurich. After undergoing a series of tests they discovered he had advanced liver cancer. Initially the chemo seemed to be working and encouraging but gradually he started to deteriorate to a point where recently they said they could do no more for him. He has always been a proud independent man and decided to go for assisted suicide which is Legal in Switzerland. Consequently on Monday 9th February at 15.00 I was there with him till the end and he passed away without any pain and with his dignity and respect still intact. I will be eternally grateful to him for being such a good friend especially during my dark times when I lost my brother and father to Covid He helped me so much by being able to hack into my brother‘s PC within a matter of seconds He was a genius in IT and all things related to Microsoft Windows, he saved me months and months of detective work and because of him I was able to hang onto my job and to my life in Switzerland and now ultimately my retirement in Switzerland So I thank you Raul for being such a good friend to me throughout our 13th years of acquaintance, I’m sure up there on the otherside you will be enjoying your Camparis and Caiperinhos. So I wish you farewell my friend and will always remember the incredible memories from the past. Rest in Peace my friend. Ash 🙏🙏

Speak Easy (Storytelling)
Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for February is "Transitions" Speak Easy: true stories, told live. The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect. The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
Fun Friday: EPiC: ELVIS PRESLEY IN CONCERT at Lennox Phoenix Theater!
Fun Friday: EPiC: ELVIS PRESLEY IN CONCERT at Lennox Phoenix Theater!
Join us for something different as we get together to see EPIC: ELVIS PRESLEY IN CONCERT! While researching his 2022 film, director Bas Luhrmann came across and compiled rare and previously unseen interviews and videos of Elvis in concert to create “one of the most exciting concert films you’ve ever seen!” Here are details, a trailer and our plan for this event: DESCRIPTION: Part documentary, part concert film, the latest from director Bas Luhrmann is a follow-up to his 2022 film starring Austin Butler. While researching the film, he came across 68 boxes of previously unseen interviews, concert performances and outtakes from previous films. A combination of offstage and onstage Elvis, comes a film that “befits the magnitude of Elvis as a performer but also offers deeper revelations of his humanity and inner life." It is written/directed by Baz Luhrmann (ELVIS, MOULIN ROUGE, THE GREAT GATSBY) and stars the legendary Elvis Presley! TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmqWusmzp0k BUZZ AND ACCLAIM: The film screened at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival where it was the runner up in the category People’s Choice Award for Documentaries. Next Best Picture says, “Certain to energize longtime fans and generate new ones for generations to come, EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert is a masterwork of montage.” And according to the NY Post, whether you have a room in the house devoted to Elvis or not, this truly “Epic” concert film is an energizing experience!” PLAN: We’ll plan for a pre-show bite at nearby BRAVO around 5 or 5:30pm followed by a 7pm-ish showing on one of their larger screens. Once showtime is announced, advance ticket purchase is advised. Please list your seat number in the Comments below. Exact showtime and meeting details will be confirmed/announced as the date gets closer. Look forward to seeing you there, Dan

Valentine's Weekend: WUTHERING HEIGHTS at the Drexel Theatre!
Valentine's Weekend: WUTHERING HEIGHTS at the Drexel Theatre!
Join us as we get together to see the steamy-romance-period-drama, WUTHERING HEIGHTS. Director Emerald Fennell gives us her take on the romance between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw from the classic Emily Bronte novel. Here’s a description, trailer and plan for this event: DESCRIPTION: The film tells a passionate and tumultuous love story set against the backdrop of the Yorkshire moors, exploring the intense and destructive relationship between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw. The film is directed by Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman, Saltburn) and is loosely based on the classic novel by Emily Bronte. It stars Margot Robbie, Jacob Elordi, Alison Oliver, Owen Cooper and Hong Chau! TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fLCdIYShEQ BUZZ & REVIEWS: The film is earning a solid 70% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, where critics say, “The Oscar-winning British filmmaker crafts a sumptuous bad romance that’s quite haughty, darkly hilarious and ultimately heartfelt.” Others call it a “sexy, exhilarating and visually stunning adaptation of the classic novel by Emily Brontë.” We’ll see for ourselves on Friday! PLAN: Purchase your ticket for the 7:00pm showing and meet inside the theater lobby between 6:30 and 6:45pm! Advance ticket purchase not required for this theater but early arrival is advised! Be sure to mention you’re with the Movie Group for admission and concession discounts! Immediately following the movie, don’t miss the best part of the night – food and drinks at the nearby Rusty Bucket! For those new to the theater, parking is available in the lot near Brassica, which will put you conveniently right between the theater and restaurant! Look forward to seeing you there, Dan

Contra dance Feb. 21 (First Unitarian Universalist Church) note new time!
# **Band: Old Possum's Menagerie; Caller: Richard Ades** Beginner lesson at 1:30, regular dancing begins at 2:00 pm NOTE THAT WE ARE TEMPORARILY DANCING IN THE AFTERNOON INSTEAD OF EVENING. Dance with us in the afternoon then you can still go out in the evening! **Sponsor: All Soles Contra and Square Dancing, First Unitarian Universalist Church, 93 W. Weisheimer Rd., Columbus OH 43214** WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor. Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 1:30 - 2:00, followed by dancing 2:00 - 430. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner. Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot. Please bring your own refillable water bottle.
