Check Mates is a free, relaxed space to meet people over a game of chess and a drink. All levels welcome - we are social first. A free and relaxed meetup for people who want to come together, have a drink and play some chess. Starting on **June 15th,** we'll meet every Monday evening at the **Coach & Horses pub** in Barnes from **7pm - 10pm**. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned player, you're welcome here. A laid-back lunchtime of friendly chess in the charming surroundings of Russell Square, Bloomsbury (or in The Atrium Cafe of The Imperial Hotel across the road, if it rains). Whether you're new in town and looking to meet new people, craving some social games, or live/work/study nearby, all are welcome. Chess sets are available to borrow, and there are optional food/drinks from the cafe next to the chess tables. Please don't bring outside food/drinks (other than water), and buy something if you use a cafe table (no need when using the chess tables, which have boards printed on them). This will be a hosted event - if you're the first to arrive, you'll see your host sitting at one of the chess tables with a chess set. Feel free to write in the event to confirm you're going and encourage others to come along.
