š Silent Reading & Socialising šŗ
## Details
The title of the event is a paradox! Read in silence and then discuss with like-minded folks! :-) [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/dublinersjoysofreading)
š **How does this work?**
We will meet in the Bartley's Restaurant area from 7:00 PM to 8:15 PM for silent reading and followed up by discussion. **During silent reading, you're expected to remain silent and read.** Please bring your headphones and refrain from the discussion during the first one hour in the area.
š„ **Socialising**
After an hour, at 8:15 PM, we'll discuss and socialize about the book you're reading. We highly encourage you to move between tables and strike up conversations with fellow book lovers. These discussions about literature and reading recommendations are often the highlight of the event!
Feel free to join at any point during the event.
The event is indoors, hopefully, we can continue the tradition of the silent reading in the winter!
**š Helpful Tips and Notes**
* Bring headphones to block out surrounding noise
* I will post a comment on the event page when I arrive to indicate where we're seated, so everyone can find us
* If you prefer to skip the silent reading, you can join directly at the bar at 8:15 PM
ā ļø**Something Happened?**
If something unpleasant happened to you, it may happen to others. It may be small but don't hesitate to reach out to me.

Penelope
By Enda Walsh
Synopsis:
At the bottom of a drained swimming pool, Penelopeās four remaining suitors eke out a ridiculous existence.
While her husband is away fighting the Trojans, her home has become the stage for a pathetic contest of manhood, with each suitor vainly attempting to win her favour through increasingly deranged displays of devotion. With Penelopeās husband fast approaching, the suitors devise a plan for how they might escape their fates and find meaning in the bizarre lives theyāve chosen for themselves. Enda Walsh delivers tragedy and comedy in equal measure in this modern reimagining of the classical myth.
Running time approximately 1 hour, 30 minutes without an interval.

"Tusk Love" by Thea Guanzon
Come join us to discuss our July pick "Tusk Love" by Thea Guanzon!
Book description:
A merchantās daughter who yearns for adventure gets more than she bargained for when she falls for a broodingly handsome stranger in this saucy romantasy from the New York Times bestselling author of The Hurricane Wars.
āA true delight of a book! Spicy and heartfeltāthis one is a winner all around.āāKatee Robert, author of Neon Gods
As the daughter of an ambitious merchant, Guinevereās path has been predetermined: marry into a noble house of the Dwendalian Empire, raise her familyās station, and live quietly as a lordlingās obedient wife. But Guinevere longs for a life unbounded by expectations, for freedom and passion and adventure.
Those distant dreams become a sudden reality when her caravan is beset by bandits, leaving her guards slain and Guinevere stranded alone on the dangerous Amber Road. Her only chance of survival is to travel alongside Oskar, the aloof half-orc who saved her during the attack.
Unlike Guinevere, Oskarās path is not so set in stone. With his mother dead and his apprenticeship abandoned, all thatās left is a long, lonely walk to a land heās never seen to find family heās never met. The last thing he needs is a spoiled waif like Guinevere slowing him downāeven if the spark between them sizzles with promise.
Despite his cold exterior, Oskar is brave and thoughtful and unlike anyone Guinevere has ever met. And while Guinevere may be sheltered, she brings out a softness in him that he has never dared to feel before. As the flames of their passion grow, they realize that soon theyāll need to choose between their expected destinations or their blossoming romance.
Written by New York Times bestselling author Thea Guanzon at the behest of Critical Roleās Jester Lavorre, Tusk Love brings the most romantic story on Exandrian bookshelves to life.
Bad Girls Book Club July 2026
**Our July novel is: *Listen for the Lie* by Amy Tintera**
**This monthās novel was named one of the best books of 2024. Itās a domestic thriller with crime, mystery, and murder, told from womenās perspectives. The story includes a detective, an unreliable narrator, and plenty of suspense. The book is 352 pages in print and 9 hours and 18 minutes on audiobook.**
What if you thought you murdered your best friend? And if everyone else thought so too? And what if the truth doesn't matter?
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvyās blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. Itās been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy canāt remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.
But now the phenomenally huge hit true crime podcast "Listen for the Lie," and its too-good looking host Ben Owens, have decided to investigate Savvyās murder for the showās second season. Lucy is forced to return to the place she vowed never to set foot in again to solve her friendās murder, even if she is the one that did it.
The truth is out there, if we just listen.
